DeviantART brings all the wank to the yard!
Shunasazzee(god damn, what a name!) posts in the forums.

I want EVERYONE to read this! What is wrong with people today?!

Many people are shocked and complain. Others think it's a good idea. Then people say America is a fucked-up country, and that Canada is lame. The same people also say America is the land equivalent of a child who just picked up a pair of scissors and is running around with them.

"America: running with scissors" <--- should be an icon

"Canada is like the retarded kid .... if someone picked on canada, everyone would kick their ass cause they know canada cant defend themselves" <-- should be an icon. And the person who wrote it appears to be Canadian.

Actually, I can think of quite a few highly insulting but dead-on icon phrases for most Western countries, and a fair number of non-Western ones.

Going by my experiences in an EH class, I can say that the majority of kids in there would have no problem with this act. Most of them would want to play the shooters.

My school had actual lockdowns. >_> Twice, in fact, while I was there. A fake one wouldn't have bothered us so much.

How can any place that gave us Benton Fraser, Crash Test Dummies, Leslie Nelson, Sarah Maclahan and Colin Mockery be lame?

They're are some kids who are going to think it's great, of course. BUT, what about the kids in Special Ed? What about the one girl, Heather, who gets emotionally and physically upset even if someone is raising their voice, who can't stand yelling?

Well, she'll obviously be the first to die at the hands of terrorists. Plan on using her as a human shield.

Heh. OH NOES! Teh SCARY POLICEMAN goes BOOM with his SCARY gun trying to protect us!

I remember all the duck and cover exercises. It was just stuff we did to distract us from the reality we would all be burnt toast if the Russians and the USA decided to stop playing footsies and let loose with the drop kicks. That was why we had the nifty songs and they don't get them. Lucky us, huh?

Oi.

Personally, I would be glad that someone trained (not just some idiot with a gun) was ready for an armed conflict in a HS. Judging from the moronimons on the thread, there are an awful lot of hysterical idiots running around who need instruction on hiding their sorry asses in the event of a school shooting.

XD When I was a kid and going to JCC Day Camp in the summer, they used to do a sort of skit/simulation where our "plane" got "hijacked." They did that with the bus, too. I think we also got "kidnapped" by "Cossacks" and led out of "Egypt" by "Moses."

Of course, there were never actual bullets involved, but still.

Kidnapped by Cossacks and led out of Egypt by Moses...

Your teachers were a little unclear on Jewish history, weren't they? :-)

Yikes. I gotta know, why on earth did they do that? My sister used to work at a Jewish summer camp, and she never got to traumatize any children. How times have changed...

Actually, I'm in Canada, my partner's a teacher and they do this every several months (minus the guns). They lock down the school, lock the classrooms, everyone hides under their desks or under the window wells and they play out what would happen if someone came in with a gun. We're not in a city center but we are in urban Ontario and my partner's been part of the admin team dealing with three different kids this year who have /threatened/ to come into the school some day and "blow everyone away".

That's called being prepared. We used to do that too. Now we are afraid that the children will have perma-scratches on the pretty snowglobe living spaces we've made for them.

So, they find reality on the intarweb instead.

In fact, it's been done with guns and without warning at at least one Ontario school. Canadian bureaucrats can be just as stupid as American ones.

My favourite part is where they think the kids will be traumatised and need counselling.

It's a high school. These kids will treat it like they do any other drill.

This reminds me of the "nucrlear bomb drills" they had in American schools in the '50's. Unusual and pretty damn much useless against the real thing.
