Current mood:*sporfle!*

More bad_rpers_suck wank.
The original post looks harmless enough: I hate the word 'smirk'..

Then [info]hiverfleur adds Speaking of words that I never, never want to see again...'member' used in reference to male bits. *shudders*

And [info]clearedtruth jumps in with a defense of the word 'member'. Including the phrases 'as an English academic', 'I'm just going to quote from one of my papers.', and 'Apparently, Princeton disagrees with you.', as well as some worrying examples of what she considers 'elegant' language:

For instance, if you have a character who has brilliant green contacts in, and you're in a dark scenario, and you want to describe this character with an air of mystique, you might want to describe him as having a "gaze that hung like green orbs luminating the atramentous silk of night"

I present you with a few ways of writing the same things:

EXAMPLE A
1. He held his big cock in his hand.
2. He wrapped svelte digits around a thickened length.

EXAMPLE B
1. XYZ's lips wrapped around ZYX's cock.
2. XYZ's lips descended upon the concupiscent slickness of a throbbing desire.

I just came up with those two examples on the spot. In all honestly, the second choice in both examples is far more elegant than the first.

[info]herongale, [info]becky_h, and [info]sarawise wank back, over proper use of language, the meaning of verbose, Lolita, erotica vs. porn, and so on.

ETA: It's growing! Now includes rape!wank, and examples of [info]clearedtruth's writing. Apparently she 'had a few things published recently'. My vanity publisher sense is tingling...

ETA2: The examples she linked to were collaborative works, that comment has been removed, and on request of one of her cowriters so has the quote that was in this entry. Only seems fair, since her cowriters haven't been splooging all over brps. The example she subsequently links to here is also not entirely her own, something she just accidentally failed to mention earlier. somebody bring up the Cassie Claire comparision, and the wank will be complete.

ETA3: And baleeted. Sorry folks, show's over. Or is it?

Anony wank alert-

http://www.livejournal.com/community/wtf_inc/709897.html?nc=87

Parts of Texa ban gay adoption, wtf_incers go 'wtf' until the wankier-then-thou njyoder person shows up, and starts throwing words around like abnormal and reproduction cycles.

Wtf_incers get snarky.

Still going.

Oh my god, she actually thinks she's making up examples that are better?

EXAMPLE A
1. He held his big cock in his hand.
2. He wrapped svelte digits around a thickened length.

A thickened length of what? ROPE, BEFORE HE HUNG HIMSELF BECAUSE OF THE GODDAMN PURPLE PROSE?

Personally, I'm not to big on "cock" and "dick" and other choice phrases in my porn. Usually when I bump into them I just think of a word I'd rather have in their place and move on.

Now, bumping into something like "He pistoned into her, merciless and lustral," on the other hand, is likely to make me close the damn fic and run away screaming into the night.

She really does have a big bonk-on for Nabokov, doesn't she? Or rather, her tumultuous feminine lustral slickness is at once piqued by the erotial verbiosity of the typed syntax of the authorial genuis that is Vladimir Nabokov. So much more elegant that way :(

Personally, I thought the whole point of Lolita was that H.H. was a sad overgrown adolescent whose over-emotional immaturity was signalled in the writing. But then, I haven't read any other Nabokov, so this might just be a bunch of old throbbing desire.

By the end of the story, despite the revolting depravity of Humbert Humbert, the star pederast of the novel, we find ourselves sympathizing with a pedophile, understanding the forbidden beauty that Humbert desperately falls in love with.

Wow, bonus points for incorrectly using both "pederast" and "pedophile." Good job.
