Pony involved Wank, yet not about ponies.
WARNING: EZBoard is evil in the not cute way. Popups and crap. Cover your ass. You have been warned.

I wasn't sure if this was fandom or not, cause it's on the pony board but not about ponies. I'll drop our bets on OTF.

Topic starts as many topics do, with a question:Do we have any happily child-free members here?

Most people chime in to voice thier desire to not drop kid, and the typical calls for sterilization NOW, complaints about even being asked about the bebbies, any presence of anything too young to vote for the President causing pain and disgust. (None of the the familial child like slurs show up, though.) All is a content circle jerk with a small bump from KetchupPony and spottedmiss (who mentions that she envies those unburdened by those under legality).

Then up shows ABC Winter on page 4 in a flurry of misplaced apostrophes and commas with a "Did you really give you're Choice some Serious Thought.." (sic) Summary as follows: What if you had never been born*, what if your parents had thought that way, don't say you definitely don't want kids, et cetera, et cetera, all spiced with random capitals. She ends with, "A Woman's greatest blessing, is the gift of having Children." (Poor comma; it doesn't want to be in that sentence, but it is.)

The others are clearly offended and voice this loudly with snorting of noses and stamping of hooves, whereupon ABC mewls that it's just something to think about, and adds in "but what about those who can not have them, who wants Children so much." (That's not my period, I use birth control and drop question marks at the end of my questions.) Oh, and don't forget that modern "mam" takes without giving and nature smited the "Dinisauras." (I see nothing about country of orgin, so I feel justified in snarking on this assault and battery on the English language. English is our friend and we only beat our friends when they ask for it and/or like it.)

The blood continues to boil until satin slipper says the kind version of STFU and lays the lockdown.

Not huge, but hey. This was locked when I found it but I like looking at the old stuff, and y'all might too. And for those who *ahem* like dietotaku's presence, she's in there as well for a single post, but there's no mention I can find of her wanting or not wanting kids.

*My reply to anything like that has been something along the lines of, "What if my mom hadn't seen my dad stealing a desk when she needed a ride home?" or a cruder reply if I'm feeling snappy.

That fucking stupid glorification of motherhood makes me RAGE.

And I'm a mother of two.

Wow, if people can't have children, they can try adopting one of these thousands and thousands of kids across the world that, I don't know, needs a family? Don't try and guilt people into popping out a kid. And for the love of everything, why the hell can't people get the differenct between 'your' and 'you're'???

It's the immutable law of grammar snark -- the odds of making a typo while correcting someone else's habitually bad grammar and spelling shoot up, not just dramatically, but actually melodramatically.

Otherwise know as the "There are 25 possible ways to misspell the word 'I' and you have an equal chance at all of them when correcting someone else's spelling" rule.

For some reason the fact that like everyone in that thread who was like 'ME ME I AM HAPPILY CHILD-FREE!' is in their early to mid 20s amuses the hell out of me. When you're 40 and happily child-free we can talk.

I mean. I don't have kids now and I don't want kids now, but hell. Maybe someday. I'm only 23. It is entirely possible that there are "<3 BABIES" hormones I haven't met yet.

Yeah, but the ones that remain sometimes become the managamous bitches who say, "See? See?" and act like it's a grand accomplishment that they done something they never wanted to do anyways. I've said I'm never going to go skydiving because I'm scared of heights; this doesn't mean I get a cookie at the age of 40 when I confirm my lack of skydiving.

...point.

I suppose what I mean (I don't think I know what I mean anymore, senior thesis has eaten it all) is that I think having a sense of moral superiority either way is silly. You want kids? Good for you. You don't want kids? Good for you.

Also, having kids because some people want them but can't have them is like eating your broccoli because there are starving children in Africa. I would be glad to mail my broccoli to Africa, and I'm sure the people who don't want kids would be glad to give their fertility to someone who wanted it, were that at all feasible.

Big sparkly WORD.

The only way I can see that working is if the fertile person was giving the baby to the infertile person.

Arrgh. I can't look. I spent a large chunk of yesterday arguing with a childfree-er over whether or not the term CFers use are bigoted.

Calling a woman a cow ("moo") because she has children isn't misogynistic, I've learned, if the mother is a bad parent! The reason I think that is simply that I don't understand how a minority group uses its terms. How about that? Ring up a CFer and get your bucket 'o enlightenment today.

She ends with, "A Woman's greatest blessing, is the gift of having Children."

A few more capital letters, and that could be the title for the next Chick tract.

I've always interpreted "moo" as a term reserved for a specific type of incompetant parent, the same way people are people but some are idiots. The term "moo" would be misogynist if it were applied to any female with children, and though there are some rabid CFers who do use it in that way, the vast majority do not, I've seen.

I get annoyed by childfree people who use the term too quickly, pronouncing someone a "moo" or "duh" a little prematurely.

[info]beandelphiki
2005-04-22 05:41 am UTC (link)
-_-

Well, then I'm likely to get into another argument, because I really don't think the circumstances matter. It's just a ridiculous term, and I can't see any excuse for it - regardless of someone's parenting skills (or lack thereof..) women should not be referred to as cows.

What happened to "terrible parent?" Sounds better, anyway.

I realize this.

However, kicking a puppy is not as bad as killing and raping a 3-year-old child. This does not mean that kicking puppies should be allowed.

... wait. That made sense in my head, I swear. Er. Nevermind.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]nevadafighter
2005-04-24 04:11 am UTC (link)
It would make sense if the comparison were valid. Nigger is a hateful term used for anyone with dark skin. Those who use it are reacting hatefully to an entire group of people based on skin color, something that they cannot change and that does not as a whole make them lesser than anyone else.

However, calling someone a moo as a result of their own behavior is like calling someone an idiot or a fool after they have opened their mouths and removed all doubt. It has no bearing on the decent, hardworking parents trying to raise good kids in a world full of morons. In other words, moo =/= ALL mothers, just like idiot =/= all people.

/end pedantry
