You're shorthand sucks.
You'll understand the title once you read the mini-wank.

It all starts on the LJ herpers community.

shkittlez posts about a veiled chameleon that she's selling.

Some people don't like this. Evidently this person tends to buy a lot of animals then sells them off for extra cash. Not sure about the backstory here.

Someone else asks the usual, "Why is it that every time you comment on someone's post it's always some negative/flaming comment?"

It degenerates from there.

Others bitch about the seemingly shitty condition in which the chameleon is kept.

The teenaged OP defends herself by saying she's "in dept", which is why she can't afford to house her chameleon properly.

Arguments about horrible grammar break out. People attempt to say "your" is shorthand for "you're". Just TRY to convince them otherwise.

...annnnnd people start leaving!

I thought that said "herpes".

Glad I'm not the only one. My second thought was, "What would an LJ herpes community be like?" Perhaps:

me too, but I was thinking it would be a community for people with herpes to hook up. But that's nowhere near as funny as your idea. ;)

That's what I thought, too.

A friend of mine made me look up the root of herpes recently and it meant "creeping" or something to that effect originally - same origins, perhaps?

Me too. And so I had to check and see if there are herpes comms on LJ.

Guess what? ;-)

Why did I know there would be? Oh, internet.

P.S. I love this icon. I'll make sure to credit you in a sec.

no kidding. i left this community years ago.

Am I the only one wondering why people who aren't in the community anymore are showing up to say they aren't in the community anymore?
I also misread that as "herpes."

The "your is shorthand for you're!" is the single best thing I have read all. day.

Zombiefied: Personally, I wish I'd left a long time ago. I can't handle stupidity in this quantity!

Clearly she can, or else she wouldn't have spent so much damn time being Post Bitch.

Eh, sometimes one stays around clinging to the hope that some day the stupid folk will listen.

That's why I'm still at Practical Pet Care.
We get all sorts of people who make the "Your is shorthand for you're" guy look like a goddamned genius.

Wow. Cool site. I had a look around, signed up, and asked some stuff about degus.

On the other hand, I also learned that:

1. In the majority of cases, it *is* right to judge people's intelligence by the quality of their posts. I will no longer feel guilty about prejudging people who cannot find the shift key, punctuate, or be bothered to type out 'you' in full. LOL.
2. Pet shops should be prevented from selling live animals.
3. There is no bottom to be scraped when it comes to human stupidity. That barrel just keeps getting deeper and deeper.

Tell me that the whole site is some kind of tagging system and that you track down and neuter the particularly dense posters at a later date? Please?

Ha! I wish there were some kind of system.
If there were, I'd track down the pregnant woman who (between her and her boyfriend) spent THREE YEARS keeping their pit bull isolated from all other people (in a bedroom, with no contact from anyone save them) and praising and rewarding it when it showed aggression toward other people and animals, and were now terrified of it because that aggression was starting to turn on them, their friends, and any animal it could get.
Not only that, they claimed he was a "friendly guard dog" so would let him off leash. The dog had already killed several neighborhood pets and chased kids, but they swear it's not the dog's fault. "He was just playing".
Bullshit.

That's the only time on that site I've ever recommended a physically healthy dog be euthanized. No behaviorist would touch a dog like that as it's a liability, it can't be rehomed, and they sure as hell can't keep it. It'll eventually escalate from gowling at them to all out attacking.
They essentially ruined what could've been a perfectly good dog.

Now, if that's not bad enough...

This person posted back on the site about a month later asking how they'd go about "police dog training" this already unsocialized, unpredictable, and dangerous dog.

...yeah.

Oh, that poor thing! Those people are the reason some breeds get such bad reps. *grr*

You wouldn't happen to have an equine section?

Yep, there's an equine board.
I never go there though as all I know about horses is that their teeth scare me.

Aww, it's gone. Shame; normally it's snake people who bring teh crazy, and it'd be nice to see something besides "It is perfectly and totally normal to have so many pets they require rackmount housing!!!!"
