Xanath metaquotes something about Christian Goths.

Most of the ensuing discussion is either reasonable or merely shallow, but there are a couple of high low points:

Why would a gay person want to get Christian cooties?

"Intelligent Christian" is an oxymoron. Because I say so.

*boggle*

As deeply fond of Bill Hicks as I am, I think pope_guilty is confusing stand-up comedy with theology...

I admit I have to struggle against the impulse to Christian-bash at times, but threads like that remind me how stupid and petty bigotry is, no matter where it's coming from.

If it makes you feel any better, you can always compare the New Testament/JC's teachings with the BS coming out of the mouths of self-proclamed 'Christians'.

(By that milepost, I've only met about 10-20 actual practioners of Christianity, and they've all been decent enough people.)

Knee jerk atheism v. Knee jerk Christianity! A battle for my immortal soul ADD.

haptotrope posted a link to the X-treme Teen Bible, which has some of the funniest reviews outside of ant farms on Amazon.

I'm not sure if I would agree that this is an AWESOME Bible or not. It is pretty extreme, however.

My favorite part is where God becomes a bush and sets himself on fire. I can really imagine Him making Himself really hot and flaming and realizing to himself that He is the most Extreme Being ever!

Unfortunately, character development doesn't seem to be a central concern of the book. I think it would be neat to know more about the motivations of the characters. Especially Judas. That dude was a loose canon.

So his fandom sources were pastede on yay? I couldn't resist. Beat me if you will; I like it.

*rolleyes* I'm so sick of people bashing strawman Christianity. Saying all Christians are members of the religious right is like saying that all Wiccans practice magic/k based on Silver Ravenclaw books, or that all atheists are violently opposed to anyone practicing any religion anywhere. If you're angry at fundamentalist neoconservative Christians, then say that you're ranting against fundamentalist neoconservative Christians, and leave the rest of us alone.

james_the_evil1 really needs to make the acquaintance of a little piece of punctuation called the period. Everything he wrote seemed eternally out of breath.

Sorry, just a freaky moment there.

not as freaky as having WinAmp click over to "Burning Down the House" by the Talking Heads, just as the link you clicked loads up a story about a church arson.

Oh, holy shit, james_the_evil1 just asserted that Islam is an offshoot of Christianity and used an evangelical Christian website that denigrates Islam in general to back himself up. The foolish choice of source is made even more delightful by his assertion that Christianity and intelligence are mutually exclusive. So, james_the_evil1, Christianity is only stupid when it doesn't conveniently back up whatever half-assed assertions you want to make?

I have never before been so tempted to wade into a wank, but I shall keep telling myself that it's just not worth it.
