Adoption bad?
In booju_mooju, jessy1019 states that she is anti-adoption.

"I am anti-adoption. I got involved in the movement when I was still in high school, so it's been about nine years now -- began researching adoption for an American Law class and the summer after I graduated, I founded an organization called Adoption: Legalized Lies (www.antiadoption.org)."

She closes this post with:

"I will say that I'm honestly not looking to start anything here and have no desire to debate this in circles. I'm happy to answer questions, though."

Two pages as of this post. The comments keep on coming.

Holy cow my head's spinning. I'll give some highlights later as I find them. I need my bottle boobie and then my blanky and a nap.

Highlights as I find them or are tipped off to me. Not necessarily in order because I. Cannot. Wrap. My. Head. Around. This. I'm trying to refrain from wanking over there myself.

pradagirl: What do you propose we do with all the children given to the state or taken from abusive homes etc. Should we abort them or just leave them in the system?

jessymessybrain: This is answered many times above. Guardianship -- child gets a safe, loving home without having to endure all the losses of adoption.

queensugar gives jessy1019 props for not using the term "baby stealer". Turns out that jessynumbers does. When asked why, she says that she doesn't use it unless it "applies" and she doesn't mean to kidnappers either.

elizaveta weighs in on "against adoption". jessy-smarmy dishes out an I'mSoSorry and reads from her prepared file cards.

Sarcfest and minor furry reference here.

OMG dunBsew meen cawlin teh Opie n idot!!one!

Scarlett75 throws some logic and Jessy does the circle dance.

I tried to read it all. Honest, I did. As topics go, though, this one just induces such a visceral response in me... I cannot read it all and not wank. I'm just going to sit on the sidelines right here and cringe.

Dear god, the idea of "guardianship" is so... I mean, it's a case of semantics, totally. She just wants to confuse children who are likely in nutty situations anyway.

I can think of some instances when the state separates children from their parents and places them in foster homes when there isn't sufficient cause; she is right about one thing, and that is that there's a lot of money at stake in the adoption and foster care business. A lot of government money. And yet, as many people in that thread seem to note, just because the system has flaws doesn't mean the fundamental purpose of adoption is wrong.

But... 'baby-stealers'... that's just... no.

I... have no words really.

"Guardianship"? So.. if I can get my ex's parental rights revoked, and my boyfriend and I get married nad he decides to adopt the kids, giving them his legal name, while my two elder ones are quite happy having a father and a stepfather... this is wrong and a betrayal to my children?

No. Bitch. The betrayal to my children would be allowing the fuckin' crack head who sired them to remain in their lives and deny a wonderful man the right to be called "dad" and give his name should all the parties so choose.

Family is more than blood. Family is what sticks around when you're being stupid and ofers you a hand up when you realise your mistake. Family is what gives you a shoulder to cry on when you're terrified of the future, or the past. Family is so far beyond genetics it defies definition.

*pants* I'm done now. I'm going to go over in my corner and weep. Because things like this really do bring me to tears.

Even assuming that it were possible for a parent to understand the consequences, have access to support resources for keeping the baby and still decide to surrender -- it wouldn't be fair to the child to allow that to happen.

So basically, there's no way that a parent can surrender custody of their child. If they have it, they're stuck with it, and the only support system is "guardianship"--foster care/open adoption where the kid doesn't get to call the adopters Mommy and Daddy. Anything else just wouldn't be fair to the kid.

...I'm not seeing what the child gets out of this arrangement.

What this woman needs is a year or two in social services so she can see for herself how kids feel when they're stuck in foster care limbo.

Not saying I agree with her. Just that if you squint at it you can see where she's coming from.

I had someone in my family who used to be vehemently against adoption. Said person could NEVER furnish much more to me other than, said person could never "accept and love" an adopted child into our family. I begged said person to keep this information to themself. A few months after a member of my family was adopted I revisited the issue with said person. The new perspective? "I couldn't love baby more if baby were our blood."

'Course, I already knew that ;)

I love baby more...... heh.

*twitch*

Y'know, I once got into it with a guy who claimed he couldn't love an adopted child as much as one spawned from his loins (he didn't use that phrase, of course), because it wasn't, well, his. Being an adoptee myself, you might imagine I'm a wee bit sensitive about that kind of stupid.

However, the froth I got into there was NOTHING compared to the effect this stupid bint is having on me now.
