My (male) friend who spent a year in Japan spent the whole time being asked why he wasn't hitting on students or picking up chicks in bars. He was very confused as to why anyone would encourage that sort of behaviour.

The awful thing is, I know this guy - I like a lot of his work, and we've met quite a few times. He's never been anything but smart and funny and generous in person. I wish I could defend him, but honestly, when I read this I can't think of any excuse other than that he's a creep. It's embarrassing.
