This is very small, but I thought people here might enjoy it.

While on my search for lists of British names, I came across a site which claimed to contain "thousands of NAMES for your dog, horse, cat, pet or child". This was the message on the front page:

These are purely name suggestions!

Please DO NOT WRITE ME telling me they offend your religion or culture - there is no intention to offend anyone. Pet owners also put a lot of thought and time into naming their animals and do not intentionally give them a name to offend anyone.

It's no wonder there is such much terrorism and hatred in the world, going by the attitude of the writers of some emails I receive, some stating that naming a pet after a person is against their culture or religion and that they find it most offensive! If someone named their pet after me, I'd consider it an honour!

I am very concerned for the site owner.

ETA: Okay, my wankdar appears to be very much broken. It was the site owner's implication that someone complaining about a site is a potential terrorist that amused me. I'll take my punishment from you all (and cry about it later).

	Hrm. This doesn't look like wank to me. It just looks like someone who's exasperated at a (very, very strange and petty) email campaign to get them to change their site. As the recipient of more than one "OMG stop SAYING that!" email myself, I can sympathize. (Reply to this)

Not seeing the wank. Also not seeing a reason for 'concern'. It's not like people don't throw around nazis, September 11th, terrorism, racism, religious persecution and etcetera as benchnotes for their complaints/opinions/rants/wtfever and this doesn't even rank on the usual stupid level as most. It's not like the site owner came out and said "OMG YUR AL AS BAD AS OSAMA BIN LADEN, HITLER AND STALIN COMBINED!"

And while we're on the subject, where is the Stalin love? Joseph Stalin made Hitler cry for his mommy! Surely he deserves to be a 'my drama is worse than' benchnote! Where is the LOVE?!

Eh. I can understand the frustration on the part of the site owner, but I'd say that it's no wonder there is such much terrorism and hatred in the world, going by the attitude of the writers of some emails I receive is wanky as hell. Terrorism is well on its way to replacing Nazis as the generic and hugely overused internet Big Bad...

After all the cloying cutesiness of "For those wanting some "baddie" names, here is our own list of names of Mafia or underground crime figures!" and "Lots of demon names for that little devil in your life!" I hit a link to "site index" on a name list page and the first sentence I see is "Vaginal Bacteria in the Bitch". The ditz hammer smacked me a good one and I took that way out of the context of dog care.

	Have you got the Onomastikon bookmarked? Not necessarily the most accurate resource in the world, but it's very handily divided up by region and has a little bit of background info about naming conventions etc. (Reply to this)(Parent)
