Current mood:*thud*

I used to hang around the CarToday.com discussion forums a couple of years ago, then drifted away because it became too unpleasant. I occasionally wander past, though, and today's visit produced this:

A news article is posted on the board about a Sicilian driver whose licence was suspended because he was gay.

And thus the fapping begins.

The Ranger weighs in with:

First, why can a person be openly gay, but its wrong to be openly anti-gay? BTW, it usually doesn't mean you're anti the gay person, just anti the gay lifestyle. I think if you agree with freedom of choice, then you cannot complain against someone's choice of being anti gay-lifestyle...

Also, why can a person not be just anti-gay, instead of homophobic. I am sure an anti-gay person does not fear gays, just disagree with the lifestyle, for whatever reason...

Let's say in another context person a is a nudist. I am anti nudism. Does that make me nudistphobic? Didn't think so. Homophobic is a word designed by less progressive gays, to give themself a feeling of being feared...

... and then continues his winning streak with:

Anti-semitism goes much deeper than being anti-gay. You do not find anti-gay's putting gays in concentration camps or desecrating graves...
And I am not an anti-semitismphobic because I do not condone the anti-semitism lifestyle...There are lots of people openly anti-jewish, they are not anti-semitism, just Christians, or Muslims, or Budhists, or whatever, they just do not believe in the jewish religion (or way of life for that matter)...

Plus the usual:

"I am friends with a few gay people, they know I do not agree with the lifestyle, but they certainly do not think I fear them, or am about to attack them.."

(Concentration camps and "I have gay friends" on the same page from the same poster! Bonus points!)

Others chip in:

GC: "I dont like gay's, as a matter of fact I find their antics revolting."

Gauss: "Politically correct? BAH! I'll say what I like to who ever I like. Poor Gay bastards has got the whole world in a twist over BullShit! Moffies. Ag shame!"

And some ... er, I'm not sure what, and I don't think anyone else does either ... from jdhaus:

"Modernity 101 people. Your figuration of Homosexuality is not only ignorant in my opinion, sice I am entitled to one, but shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the manner in which heterosexual culture figures homosexuality as the "other" of heterophobic import. To equate homosexuality as an abhorrence is simply not on. Further, one can't justify criticising homosexuality on the basis of biblical rhetoric, considering that the texts spouted as proof are rather vague: thus, any meaning is subject to conjecture/interpretation, particularly since contemporary understanding and figuration of homosexuality (specifically the strict association of the preference as being inseperable from the sexual act, an untenable link at best) is a relatively recent construct arising from the Modernity and its attendant, the Enlightenment.
This understanding has also been shaped by interaction with mediary texts, and thus is not accurate.
My R5 on the matter, but shouldn't this be in the non-motoring forum?"

There's even a little religious wanklet, which gets Mr Say What? a little worked up:

You're an atheist pig.... why dont u go stick your dick in your C2's flange and get off...
fuckin idiot.

It would be funny if the stupid didn't BURN so much.

Edit: Well, this went from two pages to five pages in a couple of hours. The highlight of the rest:

S/A\V: "I've never met a woman who thought male queerness/interccourse/kissing was a turn-on."

Edit, Part Deux: The Ranger brings more batshit-crazy:

"Can I get the same rights as gays? I demand being able to share bathrooms with people of the gender I prefer, women, like gays can share bathrooms with us....

This thread made me realise how many issues I have, I will try and list some of them, the list could get loooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg. I am a homophobic because I dislike gay sex. I also do not like roses. So I am a rosephobic. I also have these phobias:

Roastturkeyphobia, whitecottonpantyphobia, mpvphobia, mugabephobia, crimephobia, jenniferlopezbuttphobia, maltesepoodlephobia, whitecanopyphobia, 'ringtimephobia, williamsf1phobia, teaphobia, mouldybreadphobia, s&mphobia, kloosterkoekphobia, marthinusvanschalkwykphobia, tuscanystylephobia, greenbeanphobia, drugphobia, lobsterphobia, acdcphobia, trafficcopphobia, zumaphobia, trumanphobia, bluebullphobia, tripephobia, etc...."

(Oddly enough, he left "idiotphobia" off. Tsk tsk.)

I have a feeling jdhaus could say that in a much more simple way, only they don't so it becomes ...way strange.

Also, wow, since when did anti-gay = heterosexual since that's how The Ranger seems to use the term. And er, anti-Jewish = people with other religions?

What if we all used the word anti like he does?

"Hi, I'm Anna, a 27-year-anti-young anti-man. I have one anti-wife called Bob and two anti-adults named Carrie and Jim. I work in anti-moving pictures anti-farming*."

* This is my clever "anti"-term for "the movie industry". I could come up with anything cool anymore but feel free to continue that!

Newspeak lives! Soon all possible variations of human expression with be condensed into one word, and it will be anti-anti-anti-doubleplus-ungood-anti-shellfish. George Orwell will be so proud.

I was trying to think of a clever way to say it, but the Bard beat me to it by a few centuries: methinks The Ranger doth protest too much. (It even fits the meter!)

REALLY. Total Word.

I want to shake him until his ten-dollar words fall out. God knows theory is impenetrable enough when people with REAL VOCABULARIES write it.

And, um, consistent & recognizable theory, since he's assuming that there's some sort of true understanding out there if the other posters hadn't settled for mediary texts and found it. Or something.

It was the Victorian era. Psychopathia Sexualis and all of that.

Now, I can say that the idea of teh sexes being "complementary" goes back to the Englishtenment. I remember my Shakespeare prof telling us that in the 1600's, people thought women were just men turned outside in.

What IS this gay lifestyle? Is it fantasy like QAF?

All the gay guys I personally know are big ass geeks, nerds and fanboys, only gay. Except for the one who's a drag queen and dresses better than me.

I don't know if that's the word for it, but it does make you an ass hole. What people do and how they act in their own homes/beaches/private property/ and on carefully planned occasions is none of your business.

(Because no one is thinking of the nudists, and they're thinking. Naked)

What I find hilarious is that, at the moment, they're all worrying about homophobia here in Italy because of that. And at the same time we have politicians publicly referring to gay men as "fucking faggots".

*gets whiplash*

Thing is many many men say (used to say, since the service isn't compulsory any more) they're gay to get out of the draft. Two friends of mine did it. Which is also fun, because then authorities become suspicious and start wondering why in some provinces 10 to 15% of all 18 year old boys are apparently gay. And a good 40% are something-phobic (I heard agoraphobic works wonders, or just spazzing out during the military visit) and therefore would be unable to perform in the military.

*snicker snicker*

It's the old "You're being intolerant of my intolerance" argument again, isn't it? People, there's freedom of speech, sure. But there's also societal constrainsts. If there weren't, you'd be allowed to say "What a very ugly woman you are." to random people in the street, and they'd just have to take it because you have Freedom Of Speech. But you know if you did that, you'd be duffed up. Complaining about gay people going around existing is pretty much the same thing. You mightn't like it, but you just have to put up with it because nobody's going to stop just because you tell them to.
