Multiple Personality Disorder/Dissociative Identity Disorder Wank
Over in [info]wtf_inf on LJ, someone reposts something from [info]bad_sex where a user has described their experience the night before. I found the post itself to be a little confusing but then the fun begins when [info]princesshanhan calls bullshit and it's all downhill from there!

It's mostly between [info]myeloma who seems to think that MPD/DID does not exist and [info]forever_alone who begs to differ.

Oooh, I checked back before posting this (I couldn't post it before for whatever reason dangit) and now [info]damnit_janet has gotten in on the fun!

Dear [info]reinahada: The high and mighty attitude plus hitting of a bunch of multiple stereotypes = not helping your case, there.

Singletons cannot understand what it is like for us. WOE, YOUR LIVES, THEY ARE SO HARD.

No, they probably can't. But then, I have a really hard time grasping having just one voice in your head. =P The fact that someone does not understand doesn't mean they cannot empathize.

Okay, there seriously needs to be a rule about people who think having a disorder makes them a Unique Snowflake. (Ever notice how these people are often self-diagnosed as well? Yeah, me too.) They're just providing more fodder for the Tom Cruises of the world.

WTF indeed. I don't mind the whole MPD thing; it's a valid mental disorder when diagnosed by someone who knows what they're doing. What actually boggles me is how cultish these people sound. Almost if they're trying to convince people that it's like a lifestyle and not an illness.

I can just see it now: "Yeah, me and my multiples went out last night and hit Multiplicity when Dad was fronting and he picked up this hot guy who knew all about us and when we woke up, there was a cum stain on the carpet and a used condom on the sheet."

[boggles]

I'm not the only one who really wants to smack myeloma, right?
If somebody's functioning just fine, they're not hurting other people, they're dealing with it responsibly and letting the people who need to know know, what the hell do you CARE if somebody is really several somebodies? Personally, I'm more worried about a "sane" person who abuses their kids than I am about a "crazy" person who's actually several people, doing just fine, and hurting nobody.
And if it's good for a "haha, WTF?", why does it matter if somebody on the internet is for real or not? Heh.

Okay, also, somebody explain to me why it's a horrible thing for people to mention they have an illness or disorder or whatever when it's relevant to what's being talked about? Yeah, a few people overdo it for attention and think it makes them magical and above all the mundanes, that's annoying as fuck, but saying anything about your own experiences when they have to do with the topic of discussion automatically means you think you're wonderful and special and worship-worthy for having whatever?
Does it occur to any of you that there is middle ground between being uneccessarily proud of something and flaunting it for attention, and being ashamed and never ever saying anything? Or is that too complicated?

Ah, geez. I came across the multiplicity people just recently... like, became aware of the fact that there are communities for it and so on, which make really entertaining reads if you can stand it.

And then I came across an opinion on autism that seemed to me like almost a twist on the situation... they're regarding multiplicity as a normal variant, and so autism (even schizophrenia... oh, god knows what else) must also fall into that same category. Psychiatry is a tool to control the masses! (Ah, but so is religion...) Oh well. I suppose it's not an unusual sort of 'blanket belief', but it made me grind my teeth a little.

So... is there some legitimate reason why the majority of the personalities have really cool-seeming names? Are we going to find a Perdita X. Dream in the crowd anywhere?

-Vehement psycho loud people on the side of the 'multiple' camp? SHUT THE FUCK UP and stop making the moderate people over there look stupid.

-Vehement psycho loud people on the 'you're all crazy OMFG' side? SHUT THE FUCK UP andtop making 'sane' *cough* or rather diagnosed with no issue at ALL people look like fucking intolerant asshats.

-Discussing a metal issue != flaunting it. Shut the fuck up.

-Discussing a condition != celebrating it. SHUT THE FUCK UP.

-If you are using your condition as a crutch, you are a wannabe-martyr weasel and I hope you get a rectal rash that haunts your butt intil your dying day.

-If you are on either side, and you condescend incessantly to the other as poor deluded sheep - go die in a hole. Preferably one that once had a Port-O-Let sitting over it.

-If you use your multiple status as an excuse to be an irresponsible bit of flatulent air: way to make your 'peer group' look stupid. Singlequotes added because I doubt that your 'peer group' WANTS YOU. Same goes for the 'sane' and those with muses. ALL YOU ARE PROVING WITH YOUR SWAGGERING NONSENSE IS THAT YOU HAVE A VERY SMALL...EGO. Ha ha you thought I'd say penis. XD

I have muses. I happen to be dysthymic and I take Effexor. Am I bragging? NO, YOU PATHETIC MELAY-MOUTHED ROODY-POO SCRAPING-THE-BOTTOM-OF-THE-BARREL-OF-REASONS-TO-BE-A-SHITCOCK SMEGSNORTING HOMESICK ABORTION OF AN ANAL FISTULA. I am not bragging. Nor am I labelling myself. Nr am I saying that no one without muses is really creative. I am describing ME. If you take offense at that? That's pathetic. VERY pathetic. Seeing as I'm not describing myself as a white supremacist (like I want to be an inbred lackwit) or a homophobe (ahahaha yeah right, a homophobe is really going to get a shoujo-bubble-tastic sparkly crush on a female classmate (and let me add that the ex-Catholic guilt that arose from that really sucked - and that was whiny) or date a young man with a gay uncle).

In short(!?) - I yam what I yam. Don't like it? Go ahead - convince me to care. just don't bitch and moan of your asshatting in my direction gets your knees gnawed off. Yeah, I'm short too. OMG I M BRAGGIN' SO MUCH go eat a horse.
