GAFF brings all the homophobia and sexual phobias to the yard!
"Homophobia" is a topic in GAFF's Godawful Subcultures forum. It's been around since January of this year, and gets dusted off every now and then.

A guest named Moosh brings the feather duster with this post.

Much debating ensues, mostly civil. Leslie41 posts about contextualizing the wriings of Paul. Shadsie responds a couple posts down, Leslie41 responds again and the topic turns to sex in general and sex before marriage and whether or not a celibate 40-something year-old man might be gay.

See! Leslie41 teeter on the cusp of TMI! Witness! Shadsie lash out and later endorse situational animal cruely! Groan! over s The Bitter One's failute to understand context ! Roll your eyes! at her equal misunderstanding of "subtlety." Join in ! me and Crowdog eat popcorn!

My dog (whose name is Little Homo) is really sad that you're being so insensitive to his plight. So Little Homo's like, "But Maaa! The chemo made me bald! Don't you love me enough to give up your silly dreams of rampant cunnilingus? And why's that Cromwell person posting my bizness on the intarwebs?"

"Poor Little Homo," I said, and patted him reassuringly. "She's just angry because she's gay."

I took him out for some ice cream and butt-sniffing later on, so he's alright now. No thanks to you, though. HOMO.

Whether or not Leslie41 has some points (she might), but it really chaps my ass when people do their damn best to piss people off and when they get pissed off are all "Why are you angry? Gosh, you must be very insecure to care what I think." It chaps my ass.

I want to - well, not smack her, I don't do that, maybe temporarily blind her with clouds of pink glitter - personally. All that smarmy "Oh, your fiancé must be gay, don't be offended, I'm just trying to protect you from yourself" when she doesn't know these people from a bar of soap and doesn't have anything to back it up with but horribly stereotypical assumptions about gender and sexuality.

I found this comment from Shadsie beyond hilarious:

As far as homosexual marriage... I really don't like the word "marriage" being tacked onto it, but I'm all for the civil liberties, the tax advantages, healthcare advantages, and ALL the stuff that comes with marriage being given to homosexual couples. I just don't like the word "marriage" being used for it, since the word is, traditionally, a religious thing. Still, I don't, anymore, see any reason to deny homosexual couples "marriage rights" in the legal sense - after all, atheists are allowed to marry, right?

Because you just know that this country has gone down the tubes when the atheists can get married. WTF, since when did wanting to spend the rest of your life with the person you love become a secular thing? They totally stoled it from the religions! Wait... which religion did we steal marriage from again?

I've confused myself now.

There's so much stupid there I don't even know where to start. But let's try this one:

Each sex has its own strengths and its own limitations, and it strikes me that a marriage between two people with the same limitations would be less stable than a marriage between two people whose positive and negative aspects better balance each other.
Okay!

Is she hinting at no one having individual personalities, and that people within a gender must behave a certain way, or am I reading it wrong?

If she is, that's just fucked up.

And I love the icon. Yay for Saiyuki's canon incest and the stuff that goes down after.

Can you give me any references in the Bible that say homosexuality is acceptable?

Well, yeah, actually, there's Ecclesiastes 7:13 - "And the Preacher did point at Moosh, and said, Thou knowst thou art named after the gayest Newsie, dost thou not?"

And I now know waaaaaaay too much about Shadsie, so I'm gonna sit over here and cry now.

And just *how* do you know too much about me? You really don't know me at all. You've never exactly made an effort to become friends with me, nor I with you, so all you're getting is hearsay, probably from people who've also never made much of an effort to be my friends and who don't like me, anyway. Get to know me before you judge me, 'kay?

Goldberry... American Dad moment! Cool - as long as it doesn't involve my getting pregnant with an alien baby by kissing anyone. (For those who are WTF? Watch American Dad! Sundays and Thursdays on Adult Swim)!

Yeah... I'm really not insulted by Leslie calling people I know "gay" so much as her making sweeping generalizations and trying to "warn" me about my life when she doesn't even know me, nor my situation. I've heard general warnings - from people who know me. From people who love me. From people who were genuninely concerned about my life. (Like my pastor, who doesn't like the idea of people living together before marriage, even if they aren't having sex). I've also heard encourangement. (From my family, who know me better than my pastor ever did). I've known my fiance for over 5 years. I've known what he's like for a long time. He's known what I'm like for a long time - and STILL loves me, which both shocks and amazes me, frankly. (Personality-wise, I mean. I'm a nutjob, and he's seen me at my worst, but loves me anyway). Um... both of us, when we got together, knew what we were getting into. A person who, as so eloquently put, "doesn't know us from a bar of soap" butting in to tell us how to live - or me how to live - it's just dammed obnoxious.

Well, there's my $.02.

I really didn't want to spend my birthday on a wank board. Oh, well.

*Bursts into hysterical laughter*

My guy has an issue with the f word only. You see, people misuse it. They use it like the word "shit" when fucking really does refer to sex. Thefore, "What the fuck?" and the like that people always use is inncorrect English. Don't confuse "Good writer" with uber-conservative. You should see him in traffic. XD.

*Goes back into more laughter*

Listen, I'm not trying to distress you or offend you, but you realize that under what could be termed "normal" circumstances, the scenario you're describing is bound to lead to sex, don't you? And if you get there and your boyfriend doesn't seem at all to be bothered that you're not having sex, doesn't seem to want sex (though he's attentive in other ways), that your boyfriend himself could be gay?

Oh bitch, PLEASE.

This whole thing makes me sad. I don't know, it's just depressing.

I'm not engaged, but if I were, and we weren't going to have sex until marriage (which we wouldn't, because I'm just like that) and somebody who didn't know me told me "Your fiance doesn't want to marry you, he's just using you to cover up his gayness", I would be justifiably insulted. I don't care about anybody else's views regarding premarital sex. Have all the premarital sex you want. I just don't like the implication that normal people can't live together without having sex. Even if they're religeous and have made a mutual decision not to.
