I is not a durm Amurkican
So, [info]bobbysan makes a big badly-written rant to the [info]brits_americans community on how sick he is of Brits stereotyping Americans, managing to, of course, make himself out to look like the stupid, stereotypical American that he is.

Naturally, people get a bit angry. And you get gems like:

"Almost ALL Amnerican's who are not BROWN can trace their families to other places. Sorry to burst a hole in your little bubble of stupidity."

"tHIS POST WAS OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND WE ALL KNOW HOW WE all OVER REACT WHEN FRUSTRATED"

etc.

ETA: And the posts keep coming in.

ETA 2 Deleted. Damn, that was fast. However, he still has the original rant in his journal, which is still amazingly mindboggling in and of itself.

*rolleyes* He's not doing much for the "badly educated in the lousy American public school system" stereotype, nor the "center of the fucking universe" American stereotype. And he still doesn't get why people are not happy with him.

I used to get that a lot from a Russian LJer who trolled my journal. He kept telling me, in broken English, to fuck Pamela Anderson while eating a burger. Repeatedly.

It has been resolved, though, since I proved I wasn't as 'stupid' as s/he thought I was.

And do not even tell me there are not Empiricists left in England

Remember, kids, the natural sciences are un-American.

Empiricists.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

What a lot of people (read bigoted or uninformed) forget, America is amazingly diverse. I mean REALLY diverse...We have people here from every-frigging-where...(which is why we have so much trouble...but anyway...)

That "which is wy we have so much trouble" smells like bigotry! XD!

I don't know whether to laugh or be appalled.

Between that and everyone deciding they're bleeding tea in solidarity, I'm completely confused. Fortunately, this is nothing new.

Yup. Still British. Still confused.

I'd love to know what part of Britain that guy lived in because trust me, America is not important enough to us that our every thought involves it and how to insult/subjugate the people therein, kthx.

Also, I hate to bring the wank to the yard, but can I ask something: Why do some people - generally Americans, I've never seen anyone else do it - feel the need to drag out their 'heritage'? Am I the only person who feels that if you're "born in America but have Irish/English/Scottish/Welsh heritage", you are not a special and unique snowflake, merely a poser?
(I mean, by this, the people who drag it out at every oppurtunity and yet don't claim to have a single living relative born there)

I've always thought it was because America is really diverse, and so there's few common threads to tie everyone together. And some people really like the idea of tradition and culture and whatnot, but here all the white people blend together and it seems like only people of color still have unique cultural traditions/holidays/what-have-you (Cinco de Mayo, Kwanzaa, Holi, etc.), and from what I've seen, sometimes fellow whites look at that and say, "...damn. How come I don't have some of that sweet cultural action?" I mean, sometimes I've wished my family had more traditions and things to celebrate than it does, and maybe that drives some of the heritage-criers to reach out and take hold of whatever they can in their past.

Or, they just wankily think it makes their opinion on racial/cultural matters more valid if they flail and cry out, "I'm Irish-American! I know what it's like to be persecuted! LISTEN TO MEEEEEE!"

Just an idea. :-P

My parents each trace their lineage like fanatics so I'm pretty sure where I came from. You see, they weren't born in the states; dad was vacationing in Madrid when he met my mom. And they came to the states.

So what does that make me? A Spanish-Saxophone American?

I'd like to play one of those. Seriously. :))
