Current mood:uh-huh.

bad_rpers_suck + furries = wank
[info]a_little_fairy posts some tl;dr about a group of inconsistent moderators, and the argument that ensues about furries, the bannination thereof, and whether or not lizardmen and werecreatures are, in fact, furries.

The moderators in question (I think; the fog of wank is obscuring things), [info]shinything and [info]dayofjudah, show up to defend their honor. Apparently, if it featured in Anita Blake, it's not a furry.

Also, agreeing with Penny Arcade is either cool or not cool. I'm not sure which.

Also also, the inevitable furry isn't about sex! discussion.

Furries are a specific subculture concept to which catboys and cangirls

Remember, it isn't just he furries who are banned, it's the foodies too.

As for the furry characters = sex issue...meh. I have no involvement in the furry fandom or subculture, and the whole yiff thing really isn't my bag, but I still have some anthro RP characters. I view them on the same level most D&D players view their elf, dwarf, and half-orc characters. The only real difference is that they're fluffier and cause static electricity more often.

I can see the difference--when I think of furries/anthros, I think of a cutsey element that's different from werewolves or totem-spirits or lizardmen and that I would rather not interact with at all ever. However, I think that a) saying "these are the only animal-based races we allow" would make things clearer, and b) if you disallow furries but allow werewolves, you're gonna get a lot of wanna-be furries playing werewolves anyhow, and then you might as well play on Dark Metal or something.

For some reason it gives me a little thrill when I read something that declines to mention names, and I realize I know exactly what game and what players are being talked about.

It makes me feel slightly less dense about missing all the other drama explosions in things I'm involved in that somehow flew over my head!

I've been using this icon too much lately, but it sums it up. If furry isn't about sex, then I know a lot of people who are damn confused and are going to be disappointed when they get the bulletin. Meanwhile, I'm still scared that furry is a subculture at all. I was definately a happier person when I didn't know what the word 'yif' meant. Yes, yes I was. *headdesk*

Well, it's like saying that all fanfic is hardcore slash. It isn't, but that's certainly a vocal and visible segment. It's way more fun to talk about X-rated furry stuff than people who just happen to like Disney characters.

It's probably because of 1, visible and vocal segment, and 2, people as a whole are sex-obessesed. I mean, most fanfic is relationship-oriented in general. So no matter where you look, relationships/sex/etc takes the focus point.

Yes, I have long ago come to terms with the fact that I am the only genfic fan on the planet.

I only read genfic, myself. I read enough romance novels between the ages of 9 and 15, thank you. I don't need it in my fandoms.

I will admit that I quite like reading some smut, but I don't write it. I don't like writing romance or sex scenes, I always feel embarrassed. So much stuff of my stuff tends to be gen.

It's not just more fun: I'm genuinely scared of some of the Disney fans, whereas the yiffers seem harmless.

Rann's involved. Shock.

His continuous use of the "n.n" emoticon during his wanky replies made me want to hit him with a plane.

Theoretically, gigantic anime-style smiley eyes (more pronounced than "^_^").

In practice, as far as I can tell, it's the passive-aggressive emoticon.

The moderators in question had "We hate animals that are also people" in their rules, which is directly ripped off from this strip.

OK... I'm guilty of reading the latest in LKH's smutline. How can they say that the shifters in that universe aren't sexy? Werewolf/wereleopard/super vaginaAnita threesomes? How is that not sexual again?

-mouse who likes the popcorn smut, but can't believe someone's using the series as a no-sex argument.
