Self-Righteous Parents Wank on GAFF
In the Godawful Subcultures forum, BlueMondays posts about people who think Everyone Should Have Children, and how they annoy her. People respond versions of "Hear, hear!"

But Leslie41 points that sometimes people do change their minds.

BlueMondays takes offense and the wank is off and running. Included are questions of whether or not one would go to one's father for advice on one's sexual health, and the ethics of fraud in order to get a tubal ligation.

Hey, it's a change from Harry Potter, y'know?

Hasn't Leslie41 shown up here before? Something about telling a girl that her boyfriend must be gay because they were living together and hadn't had sex? Good to see she's still out there dispensing her eternal wisdom to the unwashed masses.

And the ones frothing at the mouth about OMG FRAUD AND IMMORALITY are just amusing me. You'd think BlueMondays' friend had stomped on their puppies or something-- why get so upset about the fact that someone they've never met once did something ethically questionable? I can understand thinking it's wrong, but all the screaming righteous indignation seems a tiny bit over-the-top. Here, kids, have a more-ethical-than-thou cookie and calm the hell down.

Ayup. She has a way of taking potentially insightful points and making them as obnoxious and insulting as possible. Must be a talent.

"And believe me, once you've mastered the art of finding fallacious reasoning in someone else's argument and pointing it out to them, you'll find that the delights of mere insult seem pale and amateurish by comparison."

Nah, it's not a talent - apparently it's a cultivated *skill.*

I dunno, her first post was pretty good (in a vitrolic sort of way). The whole thing seemed to go downhill when Leslie41 showed up and started nagging BM in exactly the way she was complaining about. Tactful. It looks like either a calculated attempt to piss BM off, or Leslie41 just has the social skills of a land mine.

What, she thinks the same nagging is all speshul when it comes from her? So she'S going to be the one person who can change BM from childfree to Carol Brady, if BM would only listen? Bitch, please.

Unfortunately I can't post over there because they closed new memberships until October 1...but I too found the self-righteous indignation quite hilarious. Sure, what BlueMonday's friend did was wrong...but all these cries of "She's teh EVUHL!!!!" are amusing. Because I'm sure they've never done anything wrong in their lives, which means they're allowed to be such self-righteous and sanctimonious pricks.

(Hey wow, I can comment here! It's no fun not being able to at f_w.)

Well, there are levels of wrong, and until I've purposely lied to bilk the system out of a $2500 procedure, I'll keep my moral high ground for now ^_~.

Still, it's less a point of being self-righteous right now than just trying to make BlueMondays simply understand that what her friend did was wrong and stop basically arguing that her friend was a hero who stood up to the man. I see above that you at least have the morality to be able to tell that it was wrong no matter what you think of what people have said. It's more the fact of BlueMondays not only not thinking it was wrong but actually being proud of what was done that boggles us. Also, her "arguments" blithely ignore everything everyone says while simply blaring her persecution complex over and over--which really has nothing to do with the fact that cheating the system was wrong. Hell, if she could just admit that it was wrong, I'm sure we'd all shut up. But the way she argues...holy HUH?? Her persecution complex, "don't you understaaaand!" whinings and thickheadedness are approaching Hellfire levels. (Ah, now that was some glorious wank.) And for the record, I don't get mad or upset, I just get boggled over some people's opinions. Then I use it as an attempt to practice arguing and debating. Kind of fun, actually.

And anyway, I love wank. I'm one of those who thinks that GAFF is boring without it, and there's nothing like wank with someone who's stubborn, blind and doesn't know how to argue or properly refute points without bringing in stupid hyperbole like "women weren't allowed to vote once!". Bring it on! :D

I thought that her friend's actions were rather clever, actually.

Folks put too much stock in some invisible moral highground. People, please! Entropy is continuing no matter what you do! The sun will still die and the universe will still collapse in upon itself someday! Won't somebody please think of the children?!

Well, beside the childfree, of course...

Uh, she posted a thread complaining about an annoying subculture - in a forum created to complain about annoying subcultures.

She probably thought she was going to complain about an annoying subculture, is my guess.

I have a couple of RL friends who are ardently childfree.

And ya wanna know something? Even though I have four, it doesn't bother me.

And only once as a joke did I ever ask any of them to watch my kids.

But guys... I agree with BlueMonday and I'm a 'breeder'. That Leslie chick needs to step away from the keyboard and go play with her 'bundle of joy'. I'll be over here, dealing with mine and marking days off until school starts.

I'm childfree but I happily baby-sit. It gives me a chance to corrupt, uh I mean, indulge them for a little while and then most importantly -- give them back to their parents.

That's actually a wonderful attitude to have. And as one g/f pointed out to me when I sent her the link to the wank: "I like children as long as 1) they aren't mine; 2) they aren't my brothers screeching hellions; and 3) they're asleep."

Which, again, is just fine by me.

I feel a bit bad that I can't really handle kids. They make me nervous.

So I leave whenever my cousin turns up to Easter dinner with her 4th kid in 4 years because she thinks it's a good idea and shove it in my arms when I'm totally unaware of her or kid being in the room.

The kid is ok. He only fell onto my lap. And my family is totally Ok, in fact they are very insistant, with me not wanting children.

It wasn't my fault! The TV had "The Last Unicorn" on and I was distracted from reality!"

Charles RB is quite funny in a crack-you-in-the-mouth-yamoron kind of way.

two tugs of a dead dog's cock

Best part of the wank, IMHO, but I find childfree blatherings boring in general.

Complaining that you're getting the same ol' blah-blah from the breeders and/or their shrill children? Look in the MIRROR, m'dears!

Anyone catch that BlueMondays did the gracious thing and offered an apology eventually...

And Leslie self-righteously "accepts" her apology and still doesn't seem to be able to remove the beam in her own eye, suck it up, and offer one of her own when she's the one who kept up the harassment in the first place?

Leslie41's argument is that I should be *complimented* when other people refuse to stop bugging me about having kids? Because it means that they like me so much?

Damned if that doesn't resemble the maternal version of guys on the streetcorner. "Hey, baby, why you gotta be so nasty?" Lord, give me strength.

You know what? It's funny that people only notice the positive aspects of your personality when they tell you you should have kids. Sure, I'm damn smart, but I'm not going to take care of a kid who blurts out curse words every five seconds and beats their head against the wall all the time.
