conuly and childofmarduk cage match!
Remember [info]childofmarduk, the "best writer ever"? Well, he's back, this time on </a></b></a>[info]books, arguing that all modern literature is degenerate filth, but that doesn't matter since in a few years no-one will be able to read and write any more. There follows an almighty smackdown by members of said community (most notably [info]conuly, who I tend to agree with, frighteningly), during which [info]childofmarduk claims to be writing the Next Great Novel, insults those who don't agree with him and reveals that he considers Thomas Harris and George R R Martin to be the Tolstoy and Dostoevsky of their day.

Remember to thank the mousie on [info]wank_report in your prayers tonight, children!

Russia is disproportionately represented on his list of "great writers." He must like being depressed.

I can't stand most classic Russian literature. Mostly because it makes me feel like drinking myself to death.

(No offense to Russia. Just don't like your writers.)

See, I'm never going to understand why, to most people, 'great writing' == 'dense and boring'.

And I don't mean 'I think it's dense and boring, so, lo, it sucks', I mean that I have honestly met people who don't consider something to be 'true literature' unless it's...well. Yes. And I think a lot of people think that, as well, but are afraid to say it for fear of being seen as uneducated slobs.

I'm not sure you'd have to pay him. I suspect if you told him of such a place he'd be extremely pleased that there were educated folks out there who were bound to share his idiocy opinion. And it would be the best literary wank-fest since, well, since HBP came out...

And didn't you love Machiavelli and Chaucer as examples of COMMA USE? Because medieval Italian and Middle English may have different vocabularies, syntax, and even phonetics, but punctuation is eternal and changeless.

Which is why as we speak I'm busy writing the first actual NOVEL in the traditional sense of the twenty-first century.

Nothing much to comment except "lol". I don't know whether this or "I punctuate as I please" amused me more. I mean, A)mu!sed 'me; m[o]re?

I post this without comment. For, lo, it does not need any.

Most Americans can't read anything more serious than the tripe you've identified, because they've never read anything more complex than Dr. Seuss during their formative years. Their parents prefer to seat them in front of the idiot box to watch filth or play games, and their "schools" have more important studies for them than literature e.g. proper placement of condoms and tolerance for inferior cultures. If you think the situation is desperate now, wait until today's pharmaceutical generation spawns its own crotchdroppings.

You know, the fact that he claims noone will be able to read and write in the future makes his writing attempts all the more humorous. The poor man likely thinks his work will stem the tide of literary retrograde, but alas, it becomes a classic only in the realm of kindling.

guess what feminists: civilization as we know it was created by men...you don't want to hear this but women wouldn't run the world better than men....in fact they would run it worse...first of all women are stupid (at least by common sense) for the most part, and you fight over stupid things...if women ran the world so many ppl would get back stabbed.

What a winner.
