Transsexuality! Multiple Personalities! NOVELTY SPECULUMS!

The relatively-popular game Kingdom of Loathing has a set of forums. In that set of forums is one called the Ring of Flame. As you can imagine, that's where flaming goes on. Sometimes it's vicious, it's often idiotic and juvenile, but it mostly keeps it out of the rest of the forum.

Meet crystalline. Or hellion0. There are a few other personalities floating around there as well. She/he claims to be a pre-op transsexual with multiple personality disorder, and doesn't let anyone forget that first part, ever.

Well, over in the Ring of Flame, TechSmurf does not approve! Ooh! Various people weigh in with snarky comments, off-topic flaming, and the general bitching and moaning that fills any RoF post. Novelty speculums receive a mention.

Then crystalline responds. To sum up: "The RoF is a cesspit, I am trying to educate the people, AND I WILL NOT BE SILENCED! I SHALL OVERCOME!"

Cynn, a RoF moderator, weighs in with something to put it into perspective. But crystalline doesn't care about taking her complaints to a forum geared more towards what she's going through because, despite running one and going to others, she isn't quite compatible with them due to her open nature.

TechSmurf comments again on the second page, and crystalline follows up with this little beauty, wherein she comes forth with this gem: "Victim? No, sir, I'm a martyr."

Even the people who are usually accepting and peaceful think she's being rather silly.

And from the look of it, it's the wank that doesn't end.

I wondered how long it would take for someone on the forums to crack, after listening to her discuss (for the thousandth time) the in-depth conversations her personalities have with one another.

What I want to know is whether her multiple personalities that are not female will have some gender identity crises when the operation is done. Hmmm..

I swear to god, she's rambled on at length about this topic- about her alternate personalities having gender identity "issues", I mean.

Just remember...she's not a victim, she's a martyr! And so are *all* of her other personalities (which all sound suspiciously like her), too!

Er... I'm not an expert, but my understanding was in the U.S., at least, you have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and counseling fora couple years before having the operation?

DISCLAIMER: this is maybesorta not right, an is based on the US. This is the General Order of Things, and may or may not be correct. You want this process started as early as possible for this, with the best-case-scenario being approved before puberty, in order to point the body in the 'rigth' direction. The older you are when you start this process, the less effect the hormorones will have.

You get evaluated and approved for the process, then you do a year (at least) of passing as the other gender, while going to more psych evals.

Then, IIRC, you start the nonoperational proceedures (ie: hormornes) and, guess what! More evaluations! :D

Then the surgery (this is actually optional for some). More Evaluations.

*is not a mouse, but a wee metroid. Squee.*

What the hell is with the belief that men can't be feminists?

And the hell is his/her problem? I say his/her because I don't fully believe that this person is really trans. Little too attention whore for me.

Multiple personality disorder is the new anorexia, which is the new "my mom's dead".

Which is sad. Because I've done a lot of research into MPD/DID (because it fascinates me), and it's really a tragic, horrible thing. People who pretend to have MPD/DID are sick, sick bastards, because it's not something you want. If she DOES have MPD/DID... well, even psychological disorders have a few bad seeds.

If she really DOES have MPD/DID, would she really pass the psychological exam required for the surgery?

Yes, I thought you had to have a psychological exam and turn out to be mentally stable for it...

Nope. That's already been covered (by crystalline, I mean); their doctors refuse to treat any of their problems because it "might interfere with" the other ones, god forbid it be considered they might be related. They are diagnosed with MPD/DID last I heard, though not GID.

I kind of sympathize, actually. The sort of shit people go through getting help if they have anything other than totally normal textbook GID and no other problems can breed some nasty issues on top of what's already there. :P

Faking MPD/DID is all the rage, and yes I agree that it's disgusting. There's just something about the medium that is the internet that makes people wantonly exagerrate and self-diagnose, and wear their illness/disorder/tragedy like a badge of honour.

Good objection.

I myself have to stay in therapy for twice as long before I transition, jsut to make sure that it's not a side effectr of my neurological problems.

My icon squeaks in delight over this topic.

When exactly did MPD replace bipolarity and OCB as the new disorder to have?

Have there even been documented and prooved cases odf it yet? In scientific journals? I'm slightly behind on that...

When people realized that it was called MPD and not schizophrenia, I think.

...I'm joking and yet I'm dead serious.

She would be more entertaining if the other personalities were vaguely disgusted by the antics of her main personality. Like, one could post and apologize for her behavior, and then another one could post, "Wow, she's stupid but all you people are even worse" or something.

If you're going to be an effin' liar, you might as well be good at it.

XD Yes! OR she could just argue with herself. I love when people have multiple accounts on things and one is a troll account to argue with the first one and make them look smart and then they get caught. It's always so funny! One time, I remember someone posting an AIM conversation she supposedly had with herself.

But the real question is...did she start with a male character in game and then switch to female upon ascension? Cause that would amuse me.
Also, do each of her personalities have a multi, and is that multi abuse?

Really I'm just amused by KoL related wank. I guess because the local gathering (ConCarne, back early this year) was run by a couple friends of mine, and I got to stay up drinking with Jick and Skully, and the same friends are involved with the thing going on in september, so I feel weirdly involved with KoL. (It takes a strange, strange mind to run a KoL larp.) I know it's gotten large, but it still feels like it should be a little tiny game.

I wonder that myself. Her personalities interact, do her personalities have interacting multies? Because if so...omgmultiabuse!

I am too, and I'm amazed more of it hasn't been reported. The forums there astound me. On one hand there are amazingly rational people (I've seen more civil discussions about kink and religion there than I've seen almost anywhere else), but on the other, there's a fair share of batshit crazy.

And it does feel like it should be smaller - I've got a userid in the 20 thousands, which seemed terribly high to me at the time, but now that there have been five hundred thousand accounts created it makes me go "guh?" and wonder what happened.

Are your friends Thor and Adra from the forums, by chance? I'm in the same area (4 miles from the next gathering, in fact).

Nope, Tedpro and Balam - concarne was up near SF, everyone's traveling for the next gathering. I keep getting told I should drive down, but I don't like car trips.
My userid's around 39k on my main, and I felt like I was getting there late.

Also, I'm feeling very lame in my hardcore oxy ascension attempt...still haven't managed my first one, though I've now made it to the sorceress. Think I'm going to have to spend a couple days getting my star hat and pants, she currently kicks my turtle tamer ass.

Oh, duh - got it confused with KoLCon here in Tempe, because I'm a twit.

Yeah, I've only ascended once, out of pure laziness. Eventually I'll get up motivation and all that, but it's not as thought the content's going to vanish so I'm taking my time.

Wow. It's just like Gaia, except they have their game running already instead of having the shiny art and sprites and comics.

True transsexual or deperate attention whore?

I'm opining towards the latter. But even if she IS a tranny, she should get off of my side, 'cause she's making my side look stupid.
