Blackfolk
[info]cmestrange writes [info]blackfolk a letter and says we should all stop being such "Debby Downers". The letter is condescending and inspires [info]blackfolk to turn the thread into a free post. It's a little wank but it's bound to grow, and after [info]toodani's comment of

Try not to cry as the woman in me stomps on the lady in you with my stilettos. I repeat: Take your BULLSHIT elsewhere because we all see through you and your weak ass attempt at "uplifting" while cutting off at the knees. Good Riddance

I knew you'd all want to watch and giggle with us.

People besides caricatures of 40-something motivational speakers actually use the phrase "Debby Downers?"

Perhaps if her logic were more... I don't know, relevant to what's on hand, she wouldn't be so damn embarrassing to the religion.

Dig this "conversation" we had a few weeks ago: oy.

Paraphrasing:

Matcha: Your comment was a non-sequitor to my post.

Hisprophet: Before you complain about the splinter in someone else's eyes, you should remove the plank from your own.

Matcha: Bzuh?

In a way this reminds me of what I've seen on depression and mental health communities. Every now and then someone will show up with a shpiel about how we can all improve our lives and get over this if we just get determined and eat better (or something along those lines...) or a guilt trip they found in some publication about how suicide hurts our loved ones and when we shouldn't even think about it... (It does? Wow, gee, I never thought of that!) Then when the community answers honestly that they are being a pain in the ass they wander away muttering that no one ever wants to hear anything positive or anything they disagree with.

OK, it's not really the same, but maybe it's similar.

Kinda like all the Scientology posters one sees about town proclaiming psychiatry to be bunk and anti-depressants "brainwashing." Those gave me multiple Anime Poundsigns even before Tom Cruise got on his high heels horse.

Because what we really need is to be told we are a bunch of alien ghosts stuck together to lift us up where we belong. Yeah, I've seen those posters too.

Debbie Downer is a character played by Rachel Dratch on Saturday Night Live. Basically she says depressing things in contrast to happy occasions, accompanied by "wuah wuaaaaaa" trumpets and an "uh oh" face at the camera. Occasionally she tries to fool the audience into believing that Saturday Night Live is still funny.

I'm sorry that you're not familiar with basic English, but you have to learn to communicate with it more effectively. What comment are you referring to? And if said comment is 'wanky', as you say, how does that make its point any less valid? To invalidate the point on that basis is a logical fallacy, with an implicit ad hominem.

The fact remains that not a single reply in that perfectly valid post attempting to 'refute' it was remotely rational. It was just childish and sarcastic dismissal, which is what you would expect from a community fraught with whiners. It's not at all surprising either, since any time someone makes a valid point that goes against the whiner mentality, their only possible reply is a humor-defensive reaction and a very uncreative one at that.
