Linguaphiles wank about... um... language!
So [info]alternemo posts in [info]linguaphiles asking if anyone else has noticed that there is an unusually large percentage of gay men among the members. Unfortunately for him, he uses the word "homo". Cue wank.

IIRC [info]linguafags was founded the last time someone asked, "hey, has anyone noticed there's a lot of gay people here?" A spin-off fun thing, which also proved that such questions can be asked in a non-inflammatory way.

Also noticed the name... My bf was reading an article about cheese yesterday (a proper academic article, about representations of cheese in literature or something). Did you know Shakespeare knew the Welsh for cheese and used this amazing knowledge to make puns in The Merry Wives of Windsor?

[sighs] I saw this last night on my flist and started to write a civil, if still partially annoyed, reply when I decided to fuck it all and not bother. I don't like dealing with people who are all "Here's my gay card, can I come play in the treehouse with the jaded kids?" And that whole 'empowering' thing is bullshit. They're just using an ignorant term and making themselves look more stupid in using it to describe all of us.
