So on an Asperger's ML I'm on, one of the members sends a massive e-mail to us telling us of the evils of Wikipedia.

Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia project that invites the public to
write and edit its pages, has got to be exposed as a place of the
worst forms of bullying and hate, no ethics whatever even against
stalking, a savage macho jungle, and with openly tyrannical bullying
administration that is emotionally abusive and openly gloats online (I
give links) of having the choice to be as unfair as it likes and can't
be challenged. Penalties actually get worsened if you challenge their
correctness, and there is no mechanism for ensuring you can give a
defence. How many of you had taken part in Wikipedia beyond just
reading it, and already seen any of this before? It is a very
dangerous scam and everyone must keep away from it. Anyone who takes
part in Wikipedia knowing what is happening there, is tainted. And
this is actually based on the ruthless political fighting there has
been on its Asperger Syndrome article page.

It continues on from there, but you get the idea. (I'll post the rest if you really want, but it's massive tr;dr) In summary, he says he was banned because he disagreed with something in the Asperger's Syndrome entry and everyone jumped on him and he got a temp ban for spamming, so he wants Wikipedia to be shut down as a scam.

So I go check it out.

Apparently, his problem deals with child authors. More specifically, the effect of homework on children and their ability to write.

If this ends up with an edit war and the article getting put under a neutrality dispute, it will be recordedly Wikipedia's automatic legal duty towards preventing child cruelty instead of causing it, to side with me. The child author issue is a child cruelty issue, with a particular relevance to Aspies (i) because a lot of us write compulsively, so it's a clinical detail about suffering we can be caused (ii) because the scene's bigwigs use celeb promotion of 2 child authors in pursuit of aspie awareness, and this is child cruelty unless it is made known how other child authors' chances get ruined by adult crimes of power.

He also runs a page called Spectrum Fairness, which is, to quote them, "an outlet for exposint personally unjust experiences with other websites or groups, to do with what are presently called autistic spectrum conditions." This causes people not to sign their replies to him because he puts them up on there otherwise. Which leads to him refering to people by their ISP numbers.

Anyway, I think you all get the idea by now.

What. the. fuck? I am so confused now after trying to read through his ranting and raving that I just... guh.

On a totally tangential note, I hate the term 'Aspie.' But then, I can rarely stomach the shortening of an term in such a way. It totally short-circuits my brain every time I see it, which I suppose is why I've quit reading the AS related communities/websites/etc...

"Aspie" makes me think of poisonous snakes!

But an actual question: Is there any way to pronounce "Aspergers" without it sounding like "ass burgers"? *is so incredibly tired of the looks she gets when trying to explain why the cousin she's babysitting is doing what he's doing*

a) most child authors have Aspergers (???)
b) all kids with Aspergers are potential child authors
c) if kids with AS didn't have to do homework, they would all be child authors
Therefore d) giving Aspie kids homework is CRIMINAL CHILD ABUSE (his caps) and persecution of people with AS
and e) Wikepedia are evading their legal duty to prevent criminal child abuse by deleting his ravings and links to his hate-site from their pages.

That's what I got, anyway.

I'm trying to process that.

Okay, so he thinks that children writing books should be encouraged, especially for Asperger's kids. And that homework crushes that or something. Um, okay.

I'm guessing, since there's wank, that people disagreed with him over something, and god damn that's a lot of reading.

Basically. He thinks that any disagreement with him is not only an attempt to keep Aspies down, but an insideous plot by The Man.

Criminally idiotic life ruining homework crushed my chance to complete a sci-fi novel. Clearly I never asked for that, or for the open wound of reading the words "It is not often that a 14 year old boy gets a book published" when it was my free right to achieve that too, it should have been allowed to happen, and instead it is missing from the stream of time as starkly as the books lost in the sacking of the Library of Alexandria.

Wow. F_W really is edumacating. Never before did I know that not publishing a sf novel written by a fourteen yr old boy was tantamount to BURNING ALEXANDRIA.

WTF, internets?

From another article by le wankeur:

I'm a child author whose completion of a sci-fi novel was prevented by criminally idiotic life ruining homework in this way,

Homework prevented you from finishing your novel when you were 14. That sucks, sir. And what prevented you from finishing it when you were 15, 16, 17, 18...?

(Sorry for the double post, but this was too good to pass up.)

From the start of his review of an Asperger child author's book on Amazon.com.uk:

Now that I have cleared the order processes for raising this in the Scottish parliament, I feel confident enough to write it here. It won't be deleted or else that will be raised as an interference in Scottish democratic process.

Amazon: Vital to democracy everywhere!

Note his careful adherence to Scottish parliamentary procedure. It's quite thoughtful of him. Much wank could have been averted on the American Amazon site if the critics who challenged Anne Rice's democratic soul had just submitted their critiques in the form of a bill, or possibly bribed a senator to drop relevant comments during committee meetings.

I didn't know Wikipedia bullied people. That's damn impressive for, you know, a webpage. Here's a thought, maybe the folks at Wiki jumped him because his info was wrong. Oh noes, I'm discriminating now.

In all seriousness, though...I'm woefully ignorant about Asperger's. Is anything the guy says about compulsively writing true?

Does he think he's the only AS kid forced to do things he didn't like?
[info]necronomist

You know, my mom sent me to a sports camp when I was young. It was to work on my coordination and social skills. Unfortunately, sports camp made me even more clumsy and anti-social. I hated being picked last, sweating, not making the kick or the throw, and basically being ignored because I wasn't good at sports.

I was a bit of a drawer. Very crude, but prolific. I may have been better served by going to an art camp. However, camps dedicated to drawing required money my mom didn't have.

So, gentle reader, in light of this, should I:

1) write a page denouncing sports camps as evil cesspools of Aspie child abuse?
2) learn to draw better?

AYAYAYAYAYAAAH!

2005-09-22 06:24 pm UTC (link)
This guy fascinated me so much that I had to look up more on him. It turns out that he's been on this crusade for over a year now. Most of the time he just submits articles ranting about "abusively strict homework" and overusing the word "automatically," but occasionally he completely flips his shit in the most delicious way possible:

I will not write any adult fiction and allow anyone to decide commercially to brand me as only a normal adult author not a child one. That would be the evil winning and AYAYAYAYAYAAAH that would be the evil winning. The basic of freedom is to stand as what you are, not become what other people's crimes tell you to be. Many have been martyred fo this principle, they are the martyrs, and their spirits are on my shoulders. (Bolding in original.)

He also reveals that he doesn't have to pay local taxes because he's embroiled in a legal fight over whether the Prime Minister has to "publish by automatic right" his spiel about wronged child authors.

And what was his forever-lost book about?

A sci-fi and ghost novel. A 12-year-old boy triggers a time anomaly at Caerleon Roman remains in Wales, where the ancient mental energies in the stones is linked to a ghostly thought-world self-created by the Romans in a space bubble. Then he becomes entangled with a very small and unpopular anti-authoritarian rebel faction of the ghost Roman army, in their fight to prevent the majority faction invading the modern world through the time anomaly. The fighting is not done by physical violence but by mental powers, based on relativity, about dilating time, projecting apparitional forms at near light speed to invoke major Doppler shifts, and firing lasers out of the thought-world. Because thought is stronger than violence, it would be the reasoning power and thought strength of the rebels and their small group of friends in the living world who won.

The same as with all Catherine Webb's novels, with this type of writing I could make up any mystical visual effects I liked, and just go on until it was book-length before ending the story by having one of the relativistic mental powers actually work right. Meanwhile I was weaving in the 2 surprise twists that would fetaure in the ending. So there was no danger whatever of inability to finish the story. I chose it that way, only starting a task that - if criminals had not taken over my life and spare time - I knew could be completed.

...But only in his teens, because otherwise the evil would win.
