First post
As one might expect, the posts in the LJ community on New Orleans focuses on trying to find missing friends and family and suggestions on how to help the victims.
Except for [info]brainlesswonder. A more appropriate name there never was.

He wants a bottle of flood water, because "I collect that type of thing." He also suggests that people could bottle the flood water and put it up for sale on ebay and makes lots of money.

Predicatably, the rest of the community explodes into Oh NOES how heartless can you be to take advantage of the situation?

The wank flies at How could you?.

My favorite comment was from [info]sweetdragon. who says, "Tell you what. Come to New Orleans with a big jug, and we'll hold you down underwater for as long as we can. You can get all the water you want then."

EDIT: I acknowledge this is a troll, but it's still pretty bad to troll on a community that is just trying to help in the midst of a disaster. That's just cold.

Probably, but [info]brainlesswonder claims someone responded and will help her/he/it with the project.

Someone might well bother to send 'em a bottle of puddle water. Or some tap water with mud and urine mixed in. They might reason that it serves BrainlessWonder right.

Thank you, Trolly McTrollerson von Troll the Trollth.

I do think beating s/h/it with a stick would make a good fundraiser, though.

Ooh! We'd probably raise more money if we auctioned off the chance to actually be the one doing the beating and drowning.

And then we can put it on Pay-Per-View and sell t-shirts. "I lived through Katrina, and all I got was this t-shirt and the chance to participate in justifiable homicide."

I would call troll, except for knowing that last year there was a moron selling a tupperware container of *air* from one of the hurricanes on ebay.

I can't remember. Ebay may have made him take the auction down. But he actually had a picture of himself outside in the wind 'catching' the air.

Someone was auctioning off Angelina Jolie's "air" (taken from the Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiere) a few months ago. Claimed it was for charity.

If you don't think one could make a killing Ebaying flood water...

Sure, in the thirty seconds before someone complains about how offensive it is and eBay pulls the auction.

It's a bit like those people who have bits of the Berlin Wall - except not much like it at all, because people were glad to see the wall come down, whereas several acres of water arriving on one's doorstep is not such a happy event. Anyway, I can't imagine anyone with a clue would want to own flood-water. Oh yes, they might think it'd be fun, in a sick sort of way, but there'll be a different kind of sick once the odour of overflowed sewer and dead animal rises to the top. Did anyone try to sell containers of tsunami last Christmas/New Year? Or bits of Thai house? I don't remember hearing about it.

Hell, when Mt. St. Helens blew her top off she killed 57 people... and yet no one complains about all the local gift stores selling bottles of Mt. St. Helens ash or using the ash in ceramic ash trays in the shape of the mountain (both pre and post eruption with the lid on or off). Maybe he needs to do something vaguely artsy with his bottles of water? Just a thought.

brainlesswonder was already on my radar after I'd seen him trolling various liberal and feminist LJ communities, but I had no inkling that he'd attracted enough attention to merit his own (pretty long) entry at Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Some highlights: He is known to have created more than 100 sockpuppet journals. He's managed to get himself banned both from the liberal and conservatism comms. And he's apparently attracted to self-mutilating, prescription-drug-abusing goth girls. (See here. It's interesting that in this thread, as with the offer to buy flood water, he claims someone took him up on it.)

I don't say this often, but I think this guy is a genuine sociopath. (And I'm amazed it took this long for him to show up in one of the JF communities.)

Bottled from award winning Stone Clear Springs in Tennessee this is pure spring water bottled at the source. Produced by Bottled Water Signs as a collectors item to mark the 12th named storm of the 2005 Hurricane Season. This is a 16.9 oz bottle.

Not the same thing. Still reprehensible.

My bad - it's back. When I clicked on it originally it came up as being pulled - I suspect the seller pointed out that it isn't really hurricane water but a commemorative kind of thing.
