It all starts when boringdragon asks the question club Why does society look down upon furries and especially those who are interested in zoophilia?

The first few answers are of the pretty standard "because it creeps most people out" type, until boringdragon decides to clarify: "I don't believe it's possible to rape an animal.

I actually am a little creeped out by how hysterical some people get over the existence of furries.

I mean, I'm sure I'd find the furry subculture creepy too if I spent much time finding out about it, but there are lots of creepy things in the world, especially on the Internet. In very few cases should one get hysterical over them.

It just seems to be part of this larger taboo-policing trend of "GAHHH! Don't have sexual fantasies unless they're mainstream! And, if you do, CERTAINLY don't seek out like-minded people to enojy them with! You are SICK!!" And it is a trend that I find, as I said, creepy.

I don't even see why the bestiality thing has to be such a big deal. Definitely, this boringdragon person is idiotic for thinking you can't rape an animal. (Well, maybe rape *is* the wrong word. But you can certainly physically abuse an animal through sex, just as you can physically abuse an animal any other way. And both are wrong.) But if your dog is happy to hump something besides your leg or lick something besides your hand, and you're happy to let him...I don't see why you shouldn't go off for some private happy time with your dog.

And if a shepherd decides to fuck his flock, in terms of harm to the sheep, is that really worse than his deciding to slaughter them for dinner? I dunno; I think people can have legitimate beef (ho ho) about animal cruelty for that kind of thing, if the sexual act is likely to cause discomfort to the animal and the animal can't get away if it wants to.

But otherwise...eh. It's just that most people find it gross. And most people find most kinks gross. Thinking something's gross is no reason to get hysterical about it.

Back in the day (1998? ohgodidunno) I used to draw anthros a lot and made quite a bit of friends and discovered a large art community behind it and all this fun stuff. This was the furry fandom as I knew it. I didn't think I had the soul of a cat or dress is suits or whatever, I just liked to draw anthros from time to time.

Now furry fandom seems to be all about fursuits and animal souls and yiffing and whatnot. I stay as far away from the damn F word as I possibly can. Coincidently, I draw mostly humans now.
