Hey "brothas and sistas", let's have some political wank!
Nothing like day-after-the-election bitching about who won a race, is there? Especially when you can throw racial slurs into the mix.

Most of the time, the Philadelphia community on LJ concerns itself with such deep issues as who's the best vet in town and where to get tattoos. But today it's all Street (our winning incumbent Democratic mayor) vs. Katz (the loser Republican).

"For Those Of You Who Voted For John Street
Hang your heads in shame... have fun lettin the "brothas and sistas" run our city into the ground. I'll be watching from college and laughing while you complain about him for the next 4 years and the city collapses around you."

That's all it took to rev up the wank engines. It overflows into several more threads after that.

Could be nastier, I admit, but the day is still young and the one thread's blossomed pretty quickly.

lord, down in the Virgina, the politics can get a bit rough and nasty as times, but not to that level. we have however still a strong GOP grip on the state. sure the dems got a few easy wins, but alot of the old dem incumbents got booted.

still, this is a small win, the big one is for next year...

Philadelphia politics are always rich with wank. What boggles my mind is that the FBI were actually bugging Street's office and it barely made a ripple in the campaign.

I came across something that implied that that should be used as a major point AGAINST Street, and anyone who said anything different was an evil America-hating liberal.

Because, you know, neither the FBI or Attorney General Ashcroft would EVER abuse their power in ANY way. And never have.

yea, right on! just like that MEMO that was found in senator Rockefeller's office that openly states that the dem's are going to play along with the gop in the intelligence committee and then openly ABUSE their power for political gain and put our nation and the men and women in the milatry and intelligence gathering at risk.

Actually haven't heard of that one.

But if we're talking political operatives, wouldn't be surprised. Politicians have been misusing the intelligence committee since almost day one.

it's understandable you haven't heard it yet. it broke yesterday.

that might be true, but i never heard about some one who uses the intelligence info in times of war for reasons like this. Even worse, the dems got caught red handed on this too. looks like rockefeller is going to get booted for this.

Politicians are, by their nature, control freaks. And they tend to try and control things or use that control for things they shouldn't. (Think about it... their entire job is basically making your decisions for you.)
Every election, pretty much without exception, is a choice between two evils. You pick the guy whose got more of your own issues in mind and is at least a little "eh" towards issues you don't agree with or whatnot. ... Or you just pick the one that's not, y'know, a complete scumbah. *cough*Gore*cough*
