Don't cross the streams!
Childfree wank meets customers_suck. It's, like, the holy grail of [info]otf_wank!

[info]iris_magic opines that people who park in the "Mothers and Children" spaces in front of her store are sucky customers. Others beg to differ. [info]indefatigable42 brings the questionable logic.

[EDIT: [info]indefatigable42 just wants everyone to get along. Predictably, this does not happen. Thanks for the heads-up, [info]mathilde!]

You know, Childfree really makes me sad. Because, yeah, I think there are a lot of places where it's not appropriate to take kids, and a lot of times when encountering kids in public I find myself thinking "holy shit, what is WRONG with this child's PARENTS?!", and I think it's a problem and a shame that so many people have to deal with negative reactions to how they've chosen to live their own lives.

But the selfishness, bitchery, lack of grace and manners and general inhumanity displayed by so many members of the childfree community makes me want to run out and have fifteen children of my own, raise them like a wolfpack, and then cut them loose on these folks. Go, kids! Run free! And then I'll petition my congressman so that I'll get paid a salary (plus bonuses and a stipend) for having kids! And we'll take ALL the parking spots! And every month will have a Mother's Day! And, and...okay, so, you can tell, they really piss me off.

I know lots of women who've chosen not to have kids, and they're not evil cunty bitchwhores from hell. I wonder if it's something in the water over at [info]childfree?

redqueenmeg: you will also see that, TMI or not, no, I did not "choose" to get pregnant. It was unplanned and I dealt with it as best I could.

kwanboa: You chose to keep it, didn't you?

Heeee! So people should get abortions if their pregnancy isn't entirely 100% convenient for everyone, including people who have to walk and extra 10ft because Pregnant Woman parked close to the store.

I don't even have a car. I take the bus, walk, or ride my bike. So this is pretty much lost on me. I mean... pregnant women, elderly people, and people in wheelchairs take the bus, too. It sucks way harder for them than for people who can afford to have a car.

You know, I'm almost halfway in favor of the damn mommy-with-small-kids parking spots if only because I like to think that maybe, just MAYBE, it decreases the likelihood of people's kids jumping in front of my damned car in the damned parking lot.

Then again I am generally more concerned at the middle- and high-schoolers who jump in front of moving vehicles in the local Starbucks's parking lot and think it's funny. But I'm pretty sure everyone would forgive me if I ran THEM over.

Okay, where I live there's usually about four in a three-story parking structure. Grocery stores usually have one or two spaces if any. It's not a horrible inconvience.

Aren't most Americans overweight anyways? We need the extra 40 feet! At least pregnant women have an excuse.

Oh the crazy.

I sometimes get annoyed whenever I park in a spot and notice it's a parent's slot instead of, yknow, a regular one, but jeez. I'm lazy so the extra metres are probably good for me anyway.

You know what? Sometimes pregnant women need to save that extra 2 minutes in walking. I once witnessed a woman almost lose the baby twice in her first trimester because the pregnancy was so difficult. She was confined to bedrest immediately after her pregnancy was confirmed and her doctor was so worried that, whenever she went in for check-ups, he'd drive her home himself.

Pregnancy is risky, and there are a hundred things that could go wrong (just watch House!). And honestly? Even if you're tired, or you've had a long day, a brisk walk probably won't kill you. Some pregnant women can't claim the same for themselves or their baby.

That said, I'm going to run over the next person who hits my Volvo (endorsed by the Sedin twins!) with their shopping cart.

I think maybe my local store is not one with the concept. When they first put in "customer with child" spaces, they were all the way at the back of the lot.

I love how in this, like every other intarweb e-argument, everyone must pretend that they're not really upset by the other person! Oh no! But that they're really laughing! Because it's so dumb! But they keep arguing anyway!

They're just courtesy spots anyway, so who gives a crap? Don't like it, take the bus.

What I've never really understood is why people get so bent out of shape about parking spaces. I can understand wanting to get in close when it's raining or cold, but otherwise come on. No healthy person ever died of walking a few yards further. Sitting in the middle of the aisle and blocking traffic for twenty minutes because you saw someone walking toward a car six feet closer than the next closest space, now. That should be a rammable offense.

If I were the kind of person who liked to stir the hornet's nest, I'd be tempted to go over there and ask them, hey, isn't walking past the pink spaces from further out kind of flaunting your childfree-ness? Because, like, you don't have a big pregnant belly/swollen feet/OH NOES SPROGLINGS to slow you down, so you could run or do cartwheels or whatever you like?

I must admit I've never even heard of, let alone seen, a space reserved for pregnant women.

But maybe that's just me.

Everytime I see childfree pop up here, I wonder what the label is for people like myself, who want to be parents -- but not to their own children. Adoption all the way for me.

As for the wank, I bet all of these people also bitch about those lazy gimps and crips who took up all the handicap spots and so heavily inconvienced their fat asses.

Well, to be fair, I think a lot of people over at customers_suck were still feeling peeved from an earlier thread re: a mother-to-be who demanded that someone give up his seat on the bus. So maybe they just let the vestigial traces of irritation get the best of them...maybe...?

if a new/expectant mother parked in a mommy spot, I'm not sure why *she'd* be lazy and not my able bodied, unencumbered self for taking the spot. And it's what? Four spaces back? I'm sure that extra two or three yards are absolute *murder* to walk.

Ok, that specific thread just annoyed the hell out of me.

"Well it looks like you're screwed either way. I'd say that the chance of a car backing into you is going to be less than the chance of someone driving down the aisle. Maybe carry the child if they are that small? Maybe leave them at home completely if you're that paranoid?"

Maybe shut the fuck up because you make no god damn sense? How old are these people, fourteen? I mean, of COURSE it's the mom's fault if her kid gets hit by a car drivin by a moron who can't remember whether or not s/he's in reverse. I mean, you aren't even supposed to take those abominations out the house ANYWAYS.
