Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood:*sporfle!*

oh_oh_sheila posts a very short entry to the guinea_pigs community:

"Do you think guinea pigs get high if they're around pot smoke? I think so. Mine is a lot more chill after someone smokes in the room. She's usually hyperactive and whistles a lot."

All. Hell. Breaks loose.
Lots of "OMG UR SO CRUEL" and "We should sic PETA on you!" and the like, plus a long debate that leeches over onto stupidpetowners on the topic of whether it's okay to 'accidentally' get your pets stoned.

The stupidpetowners post is friends locked, the guinea_pigs one wasn't, then was, and last I checked was unlocked again.

ETA: The mod has brought out the Stick of Deletion.
In case said mod also deletes their own post, here's what we have:

"Mod note:
I deleted the weed post because I consider it trolling. It was deliberately inflammatory as the poster did not seem at all interested in the advice she was getting for the health of her pig. It also was somewhat inappropriate for community, given that the community is open to members of all ages. No, I'm not the DEA or Nancy Reagan, but there is absolutely no need for that in this community. In case anyone has a GENUINE question about this, let me just state for the record that it is most likely a bad idea to smoke up (or smoke anything) around your pig. I really don't care if you all agree or disagree with that, but that's is all that is going to be said on the subject in this community because I don't want people discussing drugs in this community. As far as this community is concerned, do whatever you want with your body, but don't impose it on your pet, child, or anyone else who has no power to protect themselves.
I really hope this conversation is finished because frankly it's absolutely ridiculous. While the original poster bears the brunt of the responsibility for this, the 173 comments, many of which were no more coherent than name-caling were ridiculous as well. Let's not dignify trolling by stooping to the level of trolls."

oh_oh_sheila finds herself banned from the guinea_pigs community, and laughs about it in her own journal.

Also he got one of my hedgehogs high a two years ago.

This strikes me as downright adorable. Perhaps I'm sick.

It is cruel and unusual to damage an animals respiratory system without their explicit consent.

Yeah! So make sure your guinea pig signs all the necessary consent forms first!

...what the hell does that even mean?

Yeah, one keeps me up all night, making me cough until I puke. The other one goes down nice(r) and leaves me calm.

Oh, wait, I don't think that was the point (s)he was trying to prove.

So, um, it was cruel of me when in my misspent youth I didn't push away the cat who came running to get some secondhand smoke?

It was probably wrong to let him eat the bagel, though.

The cat we had when I was living at home used to wait until my parents had turned their backs on any sort of whiskey drink...and then she'd drink it either direct to mouth or by dipping her paws in.

That cat tried to get whiskey at every chance she thought she had.
Even up until the point she died at 19 she still tried to sneak whiskey.

Oh, hell no. Laughing at the stoned animals was the best part of working at a vet's office, especially if they were wearing those e-collars. I always used to caption them as they were waking up. "Aaaw, man tha's some goooood shit," and suchlike.

Also, that bird in your icon is cooler than everything.

Freaky pet owners are everywhere
[info]v_digitalwytch

Yeesh, this almost reminds me of the wank that broke out on a pet rat owner's mailing list my boyfriend joined when we got ours since he'd never been around pet rats before.

They were sharing thier recipies for the special cooked seed blends they feed thier rats with and when my boyfriend chimed in that we often use puppy chow for ours, the wank was off faster than a bukkake marathon with people going off on him for being so 'careless' and 'unsensitive' to the 'ratties' for daring to feed them anything but specially warmed blends of hand chosen seed.

God forbid he dare mention we also feed them the same tablefood we eat along with treats of chocolate.

Every rat I've had that's had that diet lived for 6+ years with nary a health problem, well except for the boys we had to separate because the one was fighting dirty with biting the other one's balls.

I wouldn't ever smoke around my animals. Thats just plain stupid.

That whole community is full of wank. Especailly when it comes right down to the Im right, your wrong bull that goes on there over care and shit. Nobody is gonna care for their animal the same way. and who cared as long as its happy cared for. :)

Im always in the never ending debate over bedding and cages sizes there. Its fucking rediculous. The general idea from one poster is that all guinea pigs and rabbits must be kept in a 7x8 cage. And if you have them in anything smaller, you are automatically accused of *cruelty to animals.* And if you use kiln dried pine bedding, you still get accused of cruelty to animals. Not everyone can afford to build their animals(breeding or pet) something the size of a dog kennel.
