Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
The online drama is what's wanky here, the story itself is really quite sad. The body of a girl was recently discovered and found to be that of Taylor Behl, who’d been missing for some time. One of the suspects was Ben Fawley, a friend of the deceased. Both Behl and Fawley have live journals.

Cue the:
· Messages of sympathy for Behl’s family;
· Messages of hate for Fawley;
· Trolls blaming Behl;
· Trolls posting porn;
· Outraged people responding to the trolls;
· Analyses of Behl’s character and family life, and whether any of it contributed to what happened;
· Threats against commentators making said analyses;
· People who didn’t know Behl making all sorts of memorials (writing poems, lighting candles, making photoshopped pictures);
· People claiming that it’s all a case of Missing White Girl syndrome and that the memorial makers are insincere, self-righteous and their photoshopped memorials suck;
· Two aforementioned groups of people fighting with each other.

Fawley is apparently no longer considered a suspect in this case, although he is being held on other charges. Fawley has locked his journal and his Deviant Art account was deleted. People are instead responding to the comments he’d left in earlier entries in Behl’s journal. Go internet justice!

ETA: I was wrong, Fawley is still a suspect.
