Breastfeeding wank, probably still in progress.

I suppose I'm some sort of traitor since I figure public breastfeeding is okay when done discreetly... which mostly amounts to "Well, she didn't get naked to do it."

*shrugs* The only time that I really have a problem with it is when the mother is trying to make a statement or something, I assume, because she acts all defiant and doesn't even try to act discreet. Then it's annoying. But I figure that those people have issues that go beyond breastfeeding, and they don't really speak for the majority of public breastfeeders anyway. Unfortunately, they're the most vocal.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all babies be breastfed for at least the first year of life, unless the mother is HIV positive. Those mothers aren't supposed to breastfeed at all, thank you very much. Breastmilk is sterile; in fact, it actually contains antibodies, and it's not going anywhere except the baby's mouth. Most women are so shy about breastfeeding, they go out of their way to hide it. So, just because a few women are bitches about it, the rest of us should be forced to never leave our homes for a year simply because we chose to have a child and want the best for that child. Right.

Nursing mothers forced to feed babies in bathrooms = me getting to piss on CFer's purse during lunch.

Just to round out my wankiness, the reason the law is about harrassment is because here in good ole Wisconsin you could get the same citation for BFing in public as you could for urinating in public, "Public indecency".

This is my favourite part: So, breast feeding doesn't produce "crap"? It does. It produces MILK. Which can be just as messy as someone's shit. And, believe me, I'm not going to sit in a puddle of someone's breast milk any faster than I will sit in a pile of someone's shit, or urine.
Why do I get the feeling this person has probably never seen breast milk, much less a pool of it sitting in a public place.

On a personal note, my sister in law must be amazing at breast feeding. She has done it numorous times in my presense and I'm yet to spy any boob. She should get a CF-approved stamp, or something.

I... breastfed in public. Three separate kids. But I always covered myself with a blanket/jacket/something.

The ones who just "plop it out" bother me, I can understand it bothering others.

But... Reading that, I can't tell who the "entitlement whores" are. The CF-ers who are so vehemently against even discreet breastfeeders? Or the titnazis who just fling it out there and expect everyone to just like it?

Speaking as a breastfeeding mom --who, like someone above said couldn't pump-- I'm going to do it but cover it, so you'll only know if you really stare.

Really... the discreet ones are the good guys, and the ones who just flop it out are just stupid.

And sidenote: Going into a public restroom?! No ewwwwww.

Coming from a state where it's perfectly legal for women to walk around topless for any or no reason, I just can't get too excited about this breastfeeding thing, even if done 'indiscretely' whatever that means. Nor can I see the pooling breastmilk menace as a public health threat on the level of, say, prep cooks who go to the john and don't wash their hands after.

Yeah, I have a big problem with this issue all the way around. I breastfed my daughter, and I did it in public. I refused to do it in a bathroom, because A) it stinks in a bathroom, and B) usually there's nowhere to sit except for a toilet in a stall. Now, if a store/mall/etc has a family restroom that has benches and is fairly clean, then yeah, I'd prefer to go in there, because I'm a private person. If not, then you bet your ass that I'm going to find somewhere to nurse the baby - that being said, I don't go out of my way to be seen doing it, either. I am very discreet and cover up with a blanket or something while I'm doing it. People who are ZOMG WOMEN WHO BREASTFEED IN PUBLIC ARE EXHIBITIONISTS!!! are freaking ridiculous.

Hmm. Well, I certainly don't want to see blatant breastfeeding, but I can't begrudge a woman her right to feed her kid when he's hungry, even if it's in a public place. I do think some public places are better than others, though, and I would be a bit grossed out to see exposed boob-suckage in a nice restaurant, just like I am grossed out by face-suckage in a nice restaurant. Blankets, shirts, discretion, no social statements, etc. is my preference.

That said, I personally am turned off by breastfeeding, probably because neither me nor my younger sisters were breastfed, I don't much like babies (LOVE toddlers and older kids, though), and I find any form of milk to be the foulest thing on Earth. I'm planning to adopt, but if I ever had my own kid, I'm not sure if I would be able to breastfeed. If I did, I would stick by my policy of "if the kid is old enough to ask for a boob, he's too old to suck on mine." When I see kindergarten-age boys breastfeeding, I'm always left to wonder if they will either have serious breast/mommy fetishes or psychological problems later....

Ya know, I've never seen any nursing mom just pop it out in public and bare her breast completely. All the moms I've seen have been discreet. Yeah you can tell they were nursing but no skin was to be seen.

It was only while reading through this that I finally got the irony of CF_hardcore people accusing F_Wers of "sweeping generalizations". I mean, isn't that what their entire community is about? And CF itself just slightly less so? ALL children are brats and ALL mothers are entitlement moos. If you meet any that aren't, it's the exception to the rule. If you build your house on generalizations, you can't throw rocks at the neighbours.
