Anderson Cooper wank ... not as fun as it sounds.
Anderson_daily is a community dedicated to, what else, Anderson Cooper and all his grey-haired gorgeousness. Lately it has seen a rather massive influx of members as a result of CNN's (never-ending) hurricane coverage. This has led, as it so often does, to wank.

A few days ago [info]drukwerk makes a fairly content-free post wishing (facetiously) that NYC would get by a natural disaster so that Anderson would come back to cover it and be seen making out with guys in bars. Some anonymice decide to take her seriously. Others feel that "the level of dumb here astounds [them]". It should probably be mentioned that most of the anonymice are in all likelihood from the Yahoo group Anderholics.

The mod, [info]feedtrevor, then gets on her Overreactionmobile and disallows anonymous posting, which in itself isn't wanky (and probably even a good idea), but the ratio of obscenities to silly anonymous comments certainly is. She also calls those who feel that the integrity of the community has slipped of late "anal."

In the most recent development, [info]feedtrevor announces that the other mod (who I take to be [info]facingthesun) has quit due to omgmeen emails that she has been receiving. [info]feedtrevor also promises that she is dropping the Ms. Nice Guy and is really gonna start laying the smack down all up ons if bitches don't recognize. Or words to that effect.

*is too distracted by the idea of Anderson making out with a guy to comment on the wank*

Oh, yum.

Well, he is (probably) gay. There had to be some making out sometime.

I wasn't even aware news *had* a fandom. Of course, the last time I remember a newscaster having a significant fanbase was Arthur "Scud Stud" Kent, so clearly I'm not up on my foxy newscasters. :D

I am so with you about this. I know who Anderson Cooper is, have enjoyed his loveliness, and really thought he kicked ass during his Katrina coverage. But I had no idea there was a fandom. Arthur "Scud Stud" Kent? I was a bit more in the loop about him. Good grief, wasn't he sexy in his gas mask when the scuds hit, and then it was discovered they weren't actually chemical weapons? Lmao - he was a fresh perspective, and I admit, I was a CNN junkie during Gulf War I. *surely 37 is way too young to feel all old fogeyish* ;)

Is the Scud Stud still around? I haven't heard from him in a while. Then again, I tend to avoid the news lately, mainly because nine times out of ten, it makes me want to throw a shoe at the television set.

Agreed on the news thing - I tend to talk back and that really isn't so healthy.

I have actually seen the Scud Stud fairly recently, he was narrating/hosting a program on the History Channel, I can't remember the topic. It was a strange moment of recognition.

No, it's the first one. The last link used to have comments, but the lot is gone.

Some people saying "Um, maybe this should be in e-mail?" "Er, good to know?" and then someone confessing and offering to leave. Then the mod commented and was all, "I'm not banning you...yet."

I seriously don't remember even seeing that many anon comments. Banning anonymice is fine, whatever, but jeez. Way to freak out, mods.

I think the news fandom is slowly exceeding it's size of fandom:wankiness ratio.

I'm so glad I'm in that community, but not in it. Actually, I've noticed a disturbing trend in which most of my communities on LJ have been hitting F_W lately, but I've been just missing the wank.

Yeah, my uni doesn't get MSNBC either. But we do have CNN and Comedy Central, so I can see Anderson Cooper and TDS.

Except not this year, because I am in England. Illegally downloading things
