Religion and sXe - not your scene?
So, on the ever-delightful sXe community, SockIt2DaRocket puts forth the opinion that taking wine at communion is not "breaking edge". Cue stained underpants across the whole community.

Edit: SockIt2DaRocket makes an unwise statement, TuffGnarl courts the troll (and SI2DR makes a fairly funny statement), and SorrowsXRequiem and MoveIt_MoveIt - and a couple of others - get theological.

This sort of thing makes me really, really sad the Internet didn't exist back during the Temperance Movement, because I bet they would have had similar discussions. Only with icons of the latest hooker to make it big on vaudeville, etc.

I'm not entirely sure what Straight Edge or sXe (OMG hardcore!!1!) is, but from what I can tell it seems to involve not drinking, smoking, or having sex, being incredibly self-righteous and holier-than-thou and having a superiority complex the size of Texas.

Maybe that's just the "fundies" of the movement. Extremists really do ruin everything.

Okay... I'm being nitpicky, but does that mean that they don't even believe in the wind, or the oxygen they breathe? I've never actually *seen* those things, even though I know that they're there. And PS - believing in something you've never seen is usually defined as FAITH, isn't it? Why is that stupid for a religious person to have?

I readily admit I've never understood Straight Edge or the concepts around it. Honestly, what makes stating yourself a particular group with a set of beliefs any different than those who simply are quiet about thier choice of not partaking in certain behaviour?

But then, I'm the one who when faced with a militant 'Edger' will flick cig butts at them when they get in my face.
