AIP and sextips
I got this off [info]wank_report, so I apologize if it isn't very coherent, because I don't 100% understand it. But it seems VERY wank<.

A few days ago amipregnant was the subject of a takeover by the creator, testarossa, who'd been absent for a year. All the mods chucked, new sockpuppets brought in!

So, a few links:

the write up:
http://www.livejournal.com/community/prego_drama/43034.html (locked)
http://www.livejournal.com/community/prego_drama/42091.html

the mod strikes back:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/testarossa/107804.html#cutid1 (the girl she refers to is [info]dindin

we're not going anywhere!
http://www.livejournal.com/community/amipregnant/1138677.html

except for anyone who actually answered questions -
http://www.livejournal.com/community/am_i_pregnant

oooh, and a plea to add sanity to sextips userinfo!
http://www.livejournal.com/community/st_discussion/215762.html

I'm not yet able to write this up more coherently, sorry. It sort of resembles our [info]death_note wank from a few weeks ago, though. Mod takes over, maintainer recovers password, new community is founded, etc.

Interestingly enough, though, [info]testarossaisn't even listed as a mod/maintainer of amipregnant at the moment.

I know people sometimes use the internet to diagnose their own mental disorders, but pregnancy is a new one for me.

That's what it's about? I thought it was just a cute name for a comm for expectant mothers or something. Not interweb diagnosis. Wow.

No joke. Whatever happened to those little urine tests you get at the supermarket? I've even seen them in discount stores. Never needed one (thank goodness) but hopefully one can spare five to ten dollars to check a little more reliably.

-I've heard they do give occasional false positives but very rarely give false negatives.

Read some of the samples incuded in comments below. It's absolutely astounding how stupid many of the girls who post there are. Many of them seriously don't even think to take a pregnancy test. Most of them are either in denial, using "pull out", or think they're pregnant from making out.

That's why I have an incredible amount of respect for the (former) mods there, especially [info]dindin. They put up with a lot of frustrating shit, and provided accurate, helpful information to these girls who desperately needed it.

As long as sex ed in American schools is as shitty as it currently is, communities like that (run by intelligent people who have educated themselves about sex and pregnancy) will be a godsend.

I was boggling at the girl who went to the gyno and found out she wasn't pregnant. Yay, right? You dodged the bullet, sweetie, now be more careful next time, yeah?

Oh, no. We don't stand for that kind of sanity on the internet.

She refuses to believe the doctor and is coming back to lj for confirmation. I'm all for second opinions, but for heaven's sake! Why are you disregarding the examination of a trained medical professional for the word of complete strangers who can't see or touch you?

"I lost my virginity last night and I think I felt the baby kick this morning! AMIPREGNATE!?" or "My boyfriend came on my knee and my knee is connected to my thigh which is connected to my girlie bits so could I be pregnate?".

*on the floor, howling with laughter*

You have NO IDEA how accurate those are. Seriously.

I watch that comm for mostly 'OMG' rules. I fondly remember the poster who'd NEVER HAD SEX and was worried about pregnancy.

What a bunch of morons. (Some posters have valid concerns, although they really ought to do home tests or see a midwife or even a gyno, but others are really stupid.)

6. What date(s) did you have sex? October 18th and 21st
This was posted on October 21.

GEEZ. Wait a few weeks!

What's really awesome, is sometimes people get their dates confused and post before they have sex.

I am officially afraid. Are some of these people serious?

This girl is using the rhythm method and can have up to 5 months between periods and won't go to a gynecologist because her mother would kill her. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/amipregnant/1146179.html)

I actually feel really bad that her mom doesn't understand. Because if your period is on a 5 month cycle, clearly something is wrong. o.O

have not had sex since my last period. I have just "grinded" a few times with a friend. I would be without my underwear but he would keep his on. We would "grind" for like 10-15 minutes then stop. He never ejaculated any of the times we were together. (http://www.livejournal.com/community/amipregnant/1143500.html)

Now, I'm not really an expert on these things, but I was under the impression that the whole having sex thing is usually a big part of getting pregnant.

Anyone opposed to teaching sex education in high schools really needs to go read that community.

*splutter HACK* *inhaled tea, kthx*

The--the RHYTHM METHOD!!???

People actually think that's RELIABLE!!???

*haaack cough snerf hairball sound*

I suspect a super religious crazyass mother in the first case. One who thinks that putting anything near one's cootch = loss of viginity. Hwaaauuughhghh.

That was me above, forgetting to log in. *facepalm*

My guess would be a seriously hardcore religious mom, too. I mean, my mom is a devout Catholic, but she marched me to the doctors and asked for birth control when I was having problems. (Since those problems included the rather obvious almost passing out in church because of cramp pain) [/tmi]

Well, I mean, the rhythm method is more reliable than just doing nothing. But still, condoms and other BC people. They make them for a reason.

I read back through the comm a bit. Several girls (women?) posted wondering if they were pregnant just because their genitals had touched their boyfriend/some guy's genitals but OMG they had clothes on but OMG we touched!

Seriously, are they teaching people anything in Health class?

I was taught, and I quote "When the boy puts his thing in the girl's you know, she may get pregnant."

Seriously, are they teaching people anything in Health class?

Not really--a lot of places just teach, "If you're not abstinent, you could easily get pregnant or get a disease."

And getting off in any way, arguably, isn't being sexually abstinent, even if you abstain from the practices that could lead to pregnancy or disease.

So, because of health class, these girls are afraid that anything that prompts sexual feelings could make them pregnant.

The Pope says the rhythm method works, and I think a celibate Italian weirdo knows a bit more about birth control than you do, missy.

Well, to be fair, he's actually a celibate German.

But darn it, don't be using that birth control!

Although, apparently, the Church is ok with BC for medical reasons...I think?

Well, it was a bastardized Simpsons quote, but point taken.

The last time I went to mass(long, long ago) I noticed that most parents had only one or two kids, so it would seem the church doesn't have much influence on birth control use anyway.

Ah, my bad then. I fail to recognize the source of teh funny.

My Catholic parents have 2 kids. My incredibly uber-Catholic, children of immigrants grandparents had 1.

Then again, there was a Catholic family at my high school who had 13 kids. So I guess the stereotype is true sometimes.

I saw that comm once a few weeks ago. And I noticed a couple of people who were just -

When did you have sex? Several times a day.
What protection are you using? Uh. None.
Do you want to be pregnant? OMG NOOOOOOO!!!!!

....

OK, the sex ed being taught in this country is a joke, but at some point, basic fucking stupidity is a factor, too.

from whatdoyouthink57's post to the original comm:

How many days are usually between the first day of one period and the first day of the next?

28 sometimes months..

Is it just me, or does that make no sense?

I think they're trying to say it can take anywhere between 28 days or months between a period.
