Current mood:*thud*

Holy holy holy, posturing and wanky~
Or, "This is what happens when a New Convert decides she has to to prove her holy-dom to the world. LOUDLY."

And the seven thunders uttered, in essence, You're not a REAL AND PROPER Catholic if you disagree with me, you pagans!

Now, I'm a lapsed Catholic. Very lapsed. And I have no idea where the OP is getting some of her claims from. Because dude? Last I checked Catholics didn't think all non-Catholics were hellbound, lax, slovenly sinners who have stray-ed from the Tuh-roo Pay-yuth of the Lor-duh. Or something.

Bonus materials include: Potshots at Anglicanism! Claims on the part of the OP that she has found the Tuh-roo Pay-tuth and everyone else has stumbled onto the Paved Shoulder! The OP comparing herself to The Big Man Himself, Jesus! Bible-based ZINGS!

And some very un-wanky discussion that made me happy.

Not horrifically fappy, as wanks go but the Bible-bonking fundy-fapgasm on the part of the OP MUST be seen to be believed. Holy damns, girl; masturbation's against the Catholic teachings, too, so type with both hands already.

What is it lately with the "I'm responding to EVERY. SINGLE. COMMENT. to show how right I am" pattern?

The catechism is infallible according to the ordinary universal episcopal magisterium as it teaches truths definitively that are in the realm of faith and morals and held by bishops around the world throughout time.

Okay, let's try that again, in a way that doesn't make you look like a twit.

Last I checked Catholics didn't think all non-Catholics were hellbound, lax, slovenly sinners who have stray-ed from the Tuh-roo Pay-yuth of the Lor-duh. Or something.

Actually, she's specifically against Vatican II teaching, which recognises the existence of other paths to God and that baptism is a spiritual thing, not necessarily a physical thing, so spiritual baptism may well occur with someone who has never encountered Catholicism.

Therefore the OP is a Bad Catholic and I win the intarnets! Yay! (Or to be precise, John XXIII does.)

And this would be reason #187 that I fully expect a split in the Catholic Church in the next 50 years, where we'll get Roman Catholics and American Catholics.

Since it's there in all but name right now anyway.

I want someone to show up with one of those Leviticus icons so we can point out that by her logic, anyone that doesn't believe all of those things =/= Christian. (Or at least from what I got out of the wankage.) Which, I'm guessing, would technically shrink their numbers significantly. D:

So, I guess the teachings I received as a child were all wrong. Because, DUDE, we were taught that it was perfectly understandable to interpret the Old Testament as a collection of allegories.

And guess what? THIS WAS 15 YEARS AGO. IN *dun dun* ITALY. You know, where that handsome man in a hat lives? And he gets to decide what is good and holy this week?

Newsflash: texts written by men? FALLIBLE. And learned priests? Will acknowledge that.

RCIA my butt.

I hate it when hard-line Catholics make the rest of us look stupid and intolerant. When a religion's been around 2,000 years, there's lots of occasions when it does the wrong thing. The last thing the Church needs - or those of us practising Catholics that don't agree with this twit - is more stupidity in and from the Church.

That said, please don't judge us by her behavior. Also, apparently she's going through RCIA - which are the classes one needs to do to become a Catholic as an adult (whether you were baptized Catholic but not confirmed, or converting from another faith community). so she's got the flush of "I've found TEH WAY" on her...

I am always amazed by how serious Americans seem to take religion. Not all, of course, maybe not even the majority, but well... I went to a Catholic school despite being Lutheran Protestant and we had sex education and had to interpret the Bible in light of when it was written and so on.

And we are less than 1000 kms away from the Pope, the country where our current conservative one comes from and also the country Martin Luther started the reformation. Furthermore, iour Protestantism is basically 'Do whatever you want without harming anyone and believe in God and you'll be fine.'
