Animal breeding, Falafel vs. Cornmeal, and goin' against 'Da Man!
In the Tacoma LJ community, chaoscat posts an offer for a friend who is selling 8 wolfdog puppies. Outrage, discussion of economics, grocery store fraud at the self-checkout, and unintentional hilarity ensue, when Killtacoma and Scorpio398 protest the apparent ethics of the OP.

killtacoma - i think its shitty of people to breed and sell animals for profit when hundreds are being euthenized at local humane societies. way to go asshole! im especially disgusted at the pricing for markings. seriously, fuck you.

chaoscat - Little girl, they aren't my dogs. If you knew how to read, you'd know that. Go pop your pills and have fun with your girlie-friends, and when you grow up, then we'll talk.

scorpio398 - selfish breeders and buyers of animals need to grow up.

Anonymous, presumeably KT forgetting to log in, makes the Opinion move - if you knew how to read you would know that im not a girl. you research very poorly. you read an instance that happened over a year and deduced that i am a pill popper, way to go! i never said they were your dogs. you posted for your friend on a public forum and having an opinion i decided to share it even when you deleted it the first time. would it have been more appropiate for me to have began with TELL YOUR FRIEND: ?

Others respond to Killtacoma and Scorpy's declarations of others' greed, by bringing up KT's personal journal entry detailing their encouragement of others deliberately entering the wrong items at the self-checkout counters of grocery stores for the sake of cheaper purchases. Alas, KT is infuriated over being referred to as female once again.

Killtacoma - im not a girl, how did you conclude that?
how am i raising the prices for everyone? if you read the post it should be very clear that STEPHANIE did so bitch to her.
how am i lying, stealing, and casting stones about other poeples lives?

damashita - [quoting from KT] at the self checkout today stephanie used the code for falafel when buying nutritional yeast when clearly she should have used the code for corn meal which is cheaper.! 0.80 vs 2.50 for falafel, the yeast is like almost 6. falafel has green bits in it [end quote]

You are right... you didn't state that you did this act... you were just telling someone else what she should have done in order to steal MORE from the company (pick a cheaper cheaper item rather than a bit cheaper item). That makes you much more honorable. i apologize.

Scorpy leaps to justification for KT's supposed acts (or, uh, not).

scorpio398 - i support stealing from corporations. i consider it my duty to do so. for one, many corporate grocery stores engage in unethical practices, so we should do what we can to stop them, one way being hurting them financially. for two, we should not have to pay for food. the corporations and the capitalists who charge for food are stealing from us, the people. by stealing from them, we are taking back what is ours.

damashita - Tell that to the farmers who only get pennies for the dollars we spend. Stealing doesn't give give anyone more money or resources, it just adds to end prices for everyone and can even reduce money for farmers (and if you think they don't deserve a hell of a lot more than they get, you are heartless as well as stupid)[...]

Gradually, it swings back again to the animal breeding issue.

killtacoma - what disgusts and upsets me most about this thread is how some one is able to determine the value of something living based soley on markings.
shouldnt they all be as valuable as the next?
how does COLOR make you more valuable?
whats so wrong with being female red with brown eyes ($350)? and how is that less than being husky type with blue eyes ($500) if your friend sincerely cared about the animals wouldnt he value them all the SAME reguardless of COLOR?

Yes, because I always tell my friends what strangers on the Internet think of them.

Me: Hey, this person online thinks you're an asshole and hopes that you die in a pool of your own vomit.

Friend: ...

Me: But I still think you're peachy keen! *thumbs up*

Friend: *backs away slowly*

Now see, I actually do that to my husband.

Me: so_and_so on feminist says you are a pig and should stop raping my inner child.

Hubby: You spend too much time on LJ.

Me: If I don't indulge my rage and drama on the internet, I'll save it all up for you.

Hubby: Good point, tell so_and_so I'll stop when your inner child stops shaking her ass at me.

I don't think so -- my uncle and aunt used to have one (in Vermont). Stella used to scare everyone, though, and I was never allowed to go near her.

There's no dangerous dog ordinance at all in Tacoma, unless they snuck one past while everyone was paying attention to the Police Chief murdering his wife and committing suicide in front of their two little kids...

</i>I am a bad, bad person, because I read this and all I could think is - it's actually possible to get white part-wolves with blue eyes? Catch me buying some cheaper brown dog when I could get one of those.

Bet we don't have them in Australia.

I want to shove my knowledge of genetics down this person's throat. Soome colozrs are just very rare, so animals of that colour cost more. So what?

I'm kind of curious, and Fandom Wank is the font of all knowledge: I'm assuming that one gets wolfdogs these days by breeding two wolfdogs together, not by going all the way back to the original stock and breeding wolves and dogs? I mean, wolves are endangered, I can't imagine the law would be very kindly toward letting breeders keep tame ones.

For one freaking instant I thought Chaoscat was someone I knew, who has a very similar handle, and was extremely confused as to why she was posting about wolf-dogs and not her reptiles. Not the same persona at all.

I'm not so much against breeding puppies, as I am against deliberately producing a fertile hybrid. You can windup polluting the genetics of either parentstock if all the breeders aren't bloody careful. Also, wolves and dogs have significant behavoiral differences, and hybreds between the two are not paticularily predictable as to what traits they will inherit.

the corporations and the capitalists who charge for food are stealing from us, the people. by stealing from them, we are taking back what is ours.

'cos, you know, s/he's been out thar in them fields, slaving away over them thar wheat fields (organically grown, natch) and suddenly one morning s/he came out and POW! they were all harvested by Safeway.

so OF COURSE it's his/her indelible right to steal the bread (and milk and yogurt and a couple of prime ribs) from the store.
