Why Yes, I WAS Raised By Hyenas! ([info]raisedbyhyenas) wrote in [info]otf_wank,

Fluffywuffy navel-gazing wank
We've seen enough wanks from people who seem to think they're a metaphorical messiah of some sort, but never before have we had the pleasure of witnessing the actual birth of a cult!

[info]gypsyjen has decided that the world needs a new religion, and that she is the one wise enough to usher in its birth. And lo, she stood forth upon the mountainside and promoted it.

At first I admit I thought this was cute in a stupid naive New Age way, but then I read the profile and my wank sensors started blinking wildly. Here's the part I liked best:

"In order to avoid stagnation and politics, I, GypsyJen, reserve the right of final approval/veto. (Someone needs to do it, and I am the one who started this.) That said, as long as you are genuinely trying to build, I will listen to what you have to say with an open mind. I will only maintain this status until the book/basis of the faith is complete and a firmly grounded leadership can be formed."

All hail GypsyJen. If you agree with Her take on religion, you too can be one of Her loyal disciples spreading Her Word!

So far the only person posting is the Second Coming Herself, and she's already earnestly revising "Fundamental Truths," planning new holidays, and rehashing Dune. On the bright side, for once it's not mean nasty ugly wank...it's more of a glorious happy glittery-silver haze of self-gratification. Enjoy!

If you DO wish to adopt the faith, please let me know, as records need to be kept.

Why? So she knows how many glasses of Kool-Aid to have ready when it's time?

I also like how she posted the "original truths" and then posted the revised truths, according to her journal, just two minutes later. What happened, the one-and-a-half-minute jihad?

Mostly so I don't end up counting people as members who don't want to be counted, actually.

And, no, the revision was the result of feedback I got from an opt-in filter in my personal journal, I included the original stuff when I started the community in case people decided they liked it better.

Since you asked.

GypsyJen. She's like Jesus, in a way.

No, really.

Actually, if this thing were to actually take off, one of my primary goals is to make sure I'm no more than a footnote.

Just as a data point.

...dude.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It's like she's created a new Ego God and made a giant phallic structure in honor of his greatness, then started stroking it furiously.

Since I really am this earnest and naive, I'd go with crying, if I were you. But it's more fun to laugh, I admit.

"Hey, that's a nice Holy Book ya got there. Where'd ya get it?"

"Wrote it on LiveJournal."

Now, I'd like to take a moment to indulge in my own psuedo-philosophical wank by saying that I've got a problem with her "all life is fundamentally good" truth. (Truth I say! TRUTH! The collected truth of all mankind, reduced to easy-to-swallow chewable tablet form!) All life is fundamentally chemical reactions and electrical impulses, and after that it's all up for grabs.

Still, this is adorable.

Yeah. I know most people don't believe that one. I'm rather hoping that will change. I know...foolishly optimistic of me.
You are quite possibly right. That's where the whole faith thing comes in. It isn't for everybody, anymore than anything else is.
I'm not trying to reduce things to "easy-to-swallow chewable tablet form", although I am trying to keep it simple. Still, I can see where you'd get that opinion.

We believe in TWIG - That Which Is Greater (than any one being or thing.) TWIG may or may not be interchangeable with The FIOAT. It is okay that we don't know exactly.

"All hail the great and mighty god, TWIG!!!

What are you laughing at? He is great; He is mighty!!"

"He's named after a tree limb; how great and mighty is that?"

I DO have a sense of humor. I found the acronym kind of amusing myself. It's sort of a reminder not to take life too seriously, imo. And, well, I think twigs ARE rather great. But that's me. I'm sure you disagree.

Actually, I decided that I had an idea I thought had a chance of working, and I might as well share it, since I wouldn't know if I didn't. (It may, it may not. Clearly it doesn't work for anyone here, and that's fine with me.)

As for that note...I'm sure you can compose more scathing commentaries on the efficiency of committees than I can. That's why I put that in there. And I meant every word.

Yes, it's a blatantly optimistic thing I did. I gave up cynicism (I'm sure you think that's a mistake.) Feel free to think me "cute in a naive kind of way". I am neither stupid, nor particularly New Age. (Feel free to disagree, I'm not here to argue with you or defend myself to you.)

The revision you refer to was a result of the fact that before I created the community, I discussed this stuff in my personal journal in an opt-in filter. I posted the original and the revision when I started the community because I wasn't sure which one would be more successful. Pretty simple, really.

And, no, I'm not looking to make anyone believe what they don't believe. If the religion can't draw people on its own merits, then it can't. I am not the religion, and it is not me.

I'd like to see other people adopt the religion because I'd like to have that kind of community. If they don't, they don't. *shrug*

I'm not so naive that I didn't fully expect that many people would react as you have and resign myself to it well before I went public. Thanks for at least recognizing that I'm not mean, nasty or ugly. I'd much rather be happy-glittery.

I'd rather believe in the Holy Trinity of Kay Hanley, Nikolai Fraiture and Kramer the Magical Donkey, if it's all the same to you.
