youcantwrite is one of those honest critique communities. I can't say as I've read enough to tell if they're full of it or not, but so far they seem to be pretty decent and knowledgeable about craft.

Whatever their abilities or credentials, the fun starts when dark_asylum asks for a critique, but starts off with a lovely justification of formalized education, having apparently gotten good grades in college despite having no concept of why grammar is important. dark_asylum wanks all over the thread and replies to him/herself several times, and I suppose it's because the best colleges don't teach comment threading like they should.

I don't want to hear any grammitcal bullshit, if I was that anal retentive and actually cared I would deal with that use midless spell check or hire an editor.

My favorite comment is contributed by avez_kristen:

Beware: your stream of consciousness has breached the levee. I don't think your college degree is helping you plug the gaps in your logic.

I'll give you a high failing grade for sport so you can reply to the next 15 comments you leave yourself.

To which dark_asylum responds that only "sadasses" respond obsessively to comments. And then replies four times to that thread alone.
