[info]youcantwrite is one of those honest critique communities. I can't say as I've read enough to tell if they're full of it or not, but so far they seem to be pretty decent and knowledgeable about craft.

Whatever their abilities or credentials, the fun starts when [info]dark_asylum asks for a critique, but starts off with a lovely justification of formalized education, having apparently gotten good grades in college despite having no concept of why grammar is important. [info]dark_asylum wanks all over the thread and replies to him/herself several times, and I suppose it's because the best colleges don't teach comment threading like they should.

I don't want to hear any grammitcal bullshit, if I was that anal retentive and actually cared I would deal with that use midless spell check or hire an editor.

My favorite comment is contributed by [info]avez_kristen:

Beware: your stream of consciousness has breached the levee. I don't think your college degree is helping you plug the gaps in your logic.

I'll give you a high failing grade for sport so you can reply to the next 15 comments you leave yourself.

To which [info]dark_asylum responds that only "sadasses" respond obsessively to comments. And then replies four times to that thread alone.

Enjoy. It's a beautiful thing. And there is so very much of it.

What's really weird is how sane, grammatical, and generally well-written his journal entries seem to be, at least based on a quick scan. I kind of wonder if he was hacked or gave his password to a stupid person.

Yeah, even the stuff before the "review"... it's like night and day, grammatically.

And because responding to your own comment is trendy these days, I caught a few other places where dark_asylum commented on the whole review thing... when it's about a particular story or a particular author, it's well-written. But if it's a comment addressing any kind of personal experience, the personality that hasn't taken an English class comes on. It's like if Sibyl was an English major.

Definitely, it's well odd. And what's with the random extra journal, sylvanicca?

He was banned (after an extensive poetry thread) and has been popping back on with troll journals. This must be a comment the mods missed and didn't delete.

As wankerrific as [info]dark_asylum is, the behavior of the community members isn't exactly endearing. [info]les_voyages, for example, needs to be smacked hard.

No kidding. I love (Meaning: Hate) when people try to be really funny by doing stuff like that. And it's sorta like a train wreck, because you're sitting there going, "You really do think you're funny, don't you? No, I mean, really. You think you're funny. Except you're really not, and you think you are..." And the worst bit is that SOMEONE is going to respond and say it's funny, and it'll only encourage it. -_-

I can't decide if I love [info]avez_kirsten and [info]les_voyagesor if I want to e-punch them.

I mean, FOUR PAGES.

I have to go with the former, myself. I laughed, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

Also, Prime Radient gets to the heart of the matter on page four.

I once read somewhere, can't remember where at the moment, a quote from someone about Conan O'Brien. It was in reference to his old writing days. I want to say it was in reference to his time spent writing for The Simpsons. (It might even have been Groening who said but you can take that with about a pound of salt.) In any case, the gist of the quote was that O'Brien had a knack for making a joke that was hilariously funny and got the whole room laughing. But then he would just keep going with it, over and over and over. And then, just when the other writers were about to strangle him, he would say it one more time and it suddenly became even funnier than ever and the room would be howling. avez_kirsten and les_voyages seem to be in that dreadful middle stage where you just want to punch them repeatedly in the face. I predict a few more pages and it will be funny again.

Oh wait. No I don't. I just want to punch them.

Also, much love goes towards Enprise for his/her poem review.

OMGWTF, they don't know that the poem is Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven?!
