Small Gay Marriage Wank - But it's got very little to do with gay marriage
I'm posting on the thread, but haven't really got involved in the wank. [info]theferret posts a thread about telling the truth in politics, agendas, and other nice things relating to gay marriage. There's lots of interesting discussion. There are also some highly comedic parts.

First and foremost, [info]daddicade posts What would you suggest as an alternative then, as you don't appear to agree that gay marriage - basically, two people of the same sex seeking societal approval and equality in tax laws etc. - isn't the answer? here.

Since the post said [info]theferrett supported gay marriage, much WTFery and then wankage ensues. Particularly when the OP reveals he's gay and thus extremely victimized by the other posters saying he can't read.

Meanwhile, How dare you not know where Walloon is? vs. It sounds like somewhere in Dr. Seuss

and My history advisor disagrees with you vs. Who the hell is your history advisor?

A small bit of amusement to brighten up your day.

My history advisor, a noted NeoStraussian, would disagree.

My history advisor supports the Republican party because they do the opposite.

He's the type of history advisor who challenges one's beliefs and assumptions.

Well, the guy has a lot of respect for his history advisor... and that's all I have to say about that.

Oh yeah.

Yay gays!

I've yet to see a history advisor agree on anything with anyone else. I have, however, seen various historical personages nearly come to blows over whether Sacagawea was really all that significant, and have bitter literary catfights over whether Lewis offed himself.

And that was just one semester!

Sounds like just one day in my history class! American Diversity. Oh man, each day is like a giant battle back and forth and I'm like, "O_O;; Whoa. I'm already in one debate class, I don't need another, dude!"

Important or not, all I do is compulsively correct people who mispronounce her name. I had to study the Lewis & Clark expeditiion one year of high school, to the point that it was coming out my ears... and all I really retained was that it's pronounced "Sah-ka-ga-way-ah". And that Clark was an ass with truly awful grammar.

The history-advisor bit gets even better, though:

I mean, the people require a certain leadership that will benefit society over the wishes of individuals. (emphasis mine)

...and this is said in defense of supporting the Republican party.

I was honestly tempted to get involved based on the bad psychology alone ("But people need strong leaders to tell them what to do! My history and economics professors all say so!"), but I have resisted temptation...this time.

Particularly when the OP reveals he's gay and thus extremely victimized by the other posters saying he can't read.

"You're quite right. I misread your post."

Why do people find that so damn difficult to say? Instead, either they have to use crazybatshit logic to prove that the poster DID TOO say what they claim, or they whip out the persecuted minority card, which apparently brings immunity from making any mistakes, ever(, honey). Or some other bizarre tactic so they don't have to say, oh, yeah, I was wrong.
