More feminist wank
Oookay... I'm screencapping some of this, because it runs serious risks of deletion. Like, probably before I finish writing

There has been discussions, some sane, some less such about privilege over at feminist

User chreebomb makes a post called Privilege: White, male, gender, heterosexual, and... blonde, smart, not-allergic-to-chocolate where she tries to humorously talk about the co-opt of the word "privilege" by the powerful. Yeah. and not at all raise a bit of drama along the way, no

So, my friend and I were discussing privilege the other day. I'm sure you can imagine why. Anyway, this has been something I, personally, have been thinking about a lot lately, and maybe you have been too.

So, I offer up, for your reading pleasure, some fantastic insights by the ever-brilliant, always-loved [info]i_dreamed_i_was for discussion.

Epiphany
So I recently discussed the bastardization of the term "privilege".I'm getting mighty sick of it, too.

All of a sudden it occured to me. It's so fvcking obvious, I can't believe I didn't think of it before.

It's the coopting of a word by a privileged group and twisting it to their advantage. Think I'm wrong?* 109 years ago, in the Plessy v. Ferguson ruling, even the dissent indicated that the Justices couldn't even CONCEIVE of anti-white discrimination. Racism always meant white racism, until the post-CRM (white) people decided it meant any racial prejudice. Which definition benefits white people?

Now these people are taking the term "privilege" and making it mean "anything you can do that I can't do." Time privilege, womb privilege, smart privilege, blonde privilege, not-allergic-to-chocolate privilege... Whom does the new (and useless) definition benefit? People with REAL privilege.

*That was rhetorical. Of course you don't.

The wank comes in the first reply
sweetsatingirl: Yo Hot Bitch - you made my day!! I was bored and now I am not!
(cap of the answers)

panic_girl is snarky (cap) and catwoman980 just wants John Stewert to spank her in a subversive way

foursixths: i agree, there are ways for chreebomb to make her points without slyly keeping personal drama martyr thing going.

evil_laughter wants LotR-RPS, I think. Or how else would you read o rly?

We have a cry of DEAR LORD MAKE IT STOP ALREADY

Mod smackdown!
At present, this post is serving multiple purposes. It is an effort to continue a discussion of privilege. It is also an effort to create or continue community drama.

Remove the complaints about "personal attacks" and the links to other people's journals (which happen to feature your critiques of community members and the community itself) or I will delete this post.

There is also this little revealing link which indicates that OP was at least partly trolling

Think that's it for now...

*sighs* Why do I hang there? Oh right, the news and occasional sane discussions

This has been brewing for a while and there's lots of wank in previous post on this topic. But hey, I'm lazy, go look for it yourself.

I was wondering what "ablist" was.. made me think of a list of links to photos of people's abs.

"Ableist"? I learned a new word. I can't call myself a "twitchy" anymore because that's ableist? Damn!

Didn't you know, nobody's -stupid- any more. Words like that promote an Elitist Outlook, which is Detrimental to those with a Different Developmental Rate.

Sorry, the educational system got me again. How it manages to be entirely useless to such people while fervently defending their rights is sometimes beyond me.

Eh, I've seem people who are too chicken to actually type the word "fuck" use that dodge. Kind of like Radar on MASH saying "H-e-double-hockey-stick."

Pox on it.

Queencallipygos on LJ, who says "FUCK" with pride and an emphasis on the "U"

I hate their talk about priviledge.

Yes, I really should smack myself every day for being white, straight, thin, getting university education and not having to work.

Only that I won't.

It's not so much the smacking yourself as the refraining from smacking others that makes recognizing privilege so important.

Why, thank you, Ms. Dowd. I'm flattered, and I am into redheads. But I'd never want to move to New York. Sorry.

(Cursed tricky Windows!)

Anyway. Privilege, as such, isn't something to be ashamed of. But having it while denying that you have it, is.

This reminds me of the time an African-American woman told me that if a white man killed a black man, it'd be murder, but if it were the other way around, it'd be people standing up to their oppressors. *headdesk*

No, the OP really wasn't trolling. The OP was frustrated as fuck with the community, and expressing that snarkily. The OP has been trying to foster discussion in that community for...probably months, I wasn't paying attention. The OP is trolling so damn bad, she decided to leave one of the biggest feminist communities on lj because it is so useless.

[info]beandelphiki is thinking of following said OP right out the door.
