OMG U CAN'T RANT IN A RANT COMMUNITY WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!!11!
[info]emrldsword posts a frothy rant to bad_service about a rude, eye-rolling, foot-stomping Subway employee.

At the moment, sixty-six comments, most by people who apparently can't read, follow.

Apparently you aren't allowed to rant in a rant community, and if you complain about a single employee, you're putting down the whole service industry.

Sweet fuck, do people no longer understand what rant means? Yeah, the OP came off as whiny and bratty, but come on.

Seriously. Saying that working at Subway isn't a "real job" was rather wanky, but honestly, how hard can it be to listen to the customer?

Except she didn't say "real job" she said "real career" and as far as I know very few people work at Subway planning on making a career of it.

Yeah, the OP came off as whiny and bratty, but come on.

I disagree, I think she had every reason to be pissed with the way the employee acted, and I thought the point of the comm was to vent your frustrations at the bad service you receive.

I think way too many people took her rant as a personal attack when it's had nothing to do with them.

I worked for years at a Subway-esque sub shop, and wasn't the least bit insulted. People are just fucking crazy, yo.

Also, there's some obvious troll accounts posting.

I think she is the one that needs an attitude adjustment, along with the rest of the athiest devil worshippers in this community. God help you all.

Agreed...

Same here. I worked at four different Subway stores, in charge of everything from opening to closing, front end and back end.

1) It isn't that hard of a job, to be perfectly honest. You listen to the customer and you make what they want. If you can't understand, you ask for clarification until you do, 'cause sometimes people mumble.
2) If you do happen to get the order wrong, you cheerfully make another one. Sometimes it's even the case that the customer orders "everything" and forgets that "everything" includes tomatoes, which they're allergic to, and it's not some kind of personal slight or criticism on your esteemed sandwich artistry. So the prima donna attitude when you have to redo an order is totally uncalled for.

Oh, I have no problems at all with her ranting. It's what the comm's there for. In no way was it OT or unjustified, but her tone was still whiny. Being whiny != not having a reason to be pissed.

The OP, on the comm itself:

Eh, they didn't bother me. I just had a good laugh at them as did my fiance. He refuses to post here anymore because a lot of the people here are so stupid.

Two sentences later, she uses "lol" as punctuation.

Isn't that sweet.

Yeah, rant, yes, I know, but something about her post rubbed me way the wrong way when I first read it.

Yeah, rant, yes, I know, but something about her post rubbed me way the wrong way when I first read it.

Yeah, I feel like there's a difference between ranting with style and/or wit, and ranting bitchily and/or wankily.

And if someone's not wittily adding amusing hyperbole to her rant, and she's ranting over something trivial like a screwed-up sandwich and a sandwich-maker with a bad attitude, then, even in a rant, I'd expect her not to seem so goddamned worked up about it.

Since she did seem that worked up and angry, she seemed off to me as well. Rant communities can be good for getting stuff off your chest, but getting stuff off your chest isn't the same as beating your chest and shrieking with rage.

Plus, she did seem to have some fundamental contempt for "lowly" customer-service people in general seeping through the rant there, and that's not so cool, either.

(And she's got some unpleasant-seeming people sticking up for her, too, like this bkmichele chick who seems to be one of those who thinks it can be cool and edgy to be a bitch http://www.livejournal.com/community/bad_service/501315.html?thread=9215555#t9215555
when she tells someone who says he's made a career of truck-driving, "A career implies you have an opportunity to advance. What are you going to advance to? Senior trucker? It must be rough to be stuck in a dead end job with no future, but that's no reason to claim it's a career." I find it distasteful when someone's judgmental that way, and I feel like that sort of judgment was implicit in the OP's rant as well, even though I'm sure she was justified in thinking that particular sandwich-maker wasn't working on a real career.)

I think that's what bothered me, too. On the upside, it's not every day you get the opportunity to put dead bugs in the food of a genuine wanker.

Jesus on a pony. People need to deal.

Sandwich making is not rocket science! Man, I guess it does become automatic after you do it for a while, and breaking out of the day dreaming!brain-hand pattern is hard when all your instincts want to reach for those olives!

But giving the customer cheek after you fuck up? Bitch, please.

I dunno, maybe it's the way she said it. I've found I got better results if I say what I don't want on a sandwich or whatever. If I say, "just cheese, lettuce and sour cream" instead of "no tomatoes, no onions", I'd probably end up with a tortilla full of cheese, lettuce and sour cream instead of a Burrito Supreme minus onions and tomatoes.

Something about her attitude gets me though. Maybe it's a good thing she's on a career path working with people who aren't in any condition to roll their eyes or fuck up her orders.

At any rate, the whole "OMG yrsomeen!" cries in a rant community has me scratching my head.

True. I don't like pickles, si when I go to burger king (rarely) I say "A whopper without pickles, please" instead of "A whopper with breath, hamburger, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise, please"

Reading the Taco Bell experience, looks like she just had the usual trouble with going through Drive-Thru. I tend to have the same unless I keep the customizing of the order simple. So just saying the food item-no tomatoes makes it easier for whoever's taking the order to just keep in mind no on the tomatoes rather than trying to get it translated over the crappy speaker of saying too much that probably doesn't get recieved clearly.

Though when I have too much trouble with the Drive-Thru, I just take the extra bit of time to walk in and order.

Never had trouble with that.

It's my damn money and I like my tacos without cheese. I didn't know that was so damn hard to process. I mean, if you can't make a taco correctly

Call me an idiot, but I stand by my belief that a correctly made taco has cheese on it.

An Apprentice fan! Allow me to fangirl you.

Yeah, this season is pretty much shit. I miss season two. I mean, it was painful to watch, but at least everyone was qualified. And I am so sick of "let's only bring one person to the boardroom." Jesus God, don't you kids have a mind of your own? Although Rebecca is hot. I do fangirl her a little for that. :/

Oh, some of them were absolutely horrid. But, again, they seemed competent and qualified for the most part. I couldn't stand Pamela, but I could see how she could get a job. Jen M. from this season, not so much.

And season two had the Andy/Wes HoYay, and Kelly, whom I adore. Competent! Snarky! Knows forty ways to fuck your shit up! And ... a closet fashion designer! Oh, come back, Kelly.

Jen M., though. Meh. I didn't mind seeing her take the beatdown.

I clearly stated TWICE to you that I did NOT want olives or tomatoes on that sub.

Is this her first time at Subway?

Because since they only put on the sandwich what you tell them to put on and, during a long day making sandwiches, probably just go to the food bin when they hear the item named, why would you even bother to say what you dont want? (excluding condiments since I've always found a "No thank you" works fairly well on that one)
