There was a recent uproar in the u_penn LJ community because an LJ'er who was posing as a female teenage university student was found out to be neither a teenager, nor a girl, nor a student at said university. I'm still shifting through the links myself, but here you go:

As far as I can tell, there seems to be a guy in his 30s pretending to be a female/deaf/cancer survivor/limping/Lyme disease-suffering UPenn student, and as such, started making threatening phone calls (although this part is unclear, due to all the cloak-and-dagger jazz in these entries) after one of the mods started to call "her" on all this. Also, he seems to have been obsessed with someone well-known on the campus who has a "reputation" and tried to meet her in person? The word "rapezor" was used. My brain got tired at this point.

enprise lied about being a UPenn student, which the mods found out by tracing her (?) IP. The mods of u_penn were then frightened because of a series of phonecalls that led back to a place called Sullivan Loans in Silver Spring, MD, in which a guy asked for "Debra." enprise may be someone who works at Sullivan Loans, either Brian Sullivan or someone else.

The mods post about enprise not being who she says she is on u_penn but say that the police don't want them to give details or to tell anyone outside of u_penn. People who knew enprise and gave her personal information are upset (particularly les_voyages and prime_radiant), and demand to know more, since they're in danger too. The mods at u_penn say they won't give the info, and les_voyages and/or prime_radiant reply that if they're not given information, they'll contact the police at U Penn. At first the mods seem to be totally against this, but later on les_voyages' journal, one of them says that anyone worried about personal safety should contact the police.

Some people think the mods of u_penn are making things up at first, given that they say they have information but won't share details. Everyone agrees that enprise lied about who she was, but a lot of them say they don't particularly mind, as they were pretty sure she was lying about herself anyway, given the amount of drama she put into her life.

No one is really sure whether Brian Sullivan is enprise at this point; it seems to be ongoing.

	All these "OMG FAKER" journal things remind me of this paper a grad student wrote on blogging--apparently there used to be a popular weblog written by a male student on campus, but the weblog itself was from the POV of a female. I think the student got tired of the blog and "killed" the character after 2-3 years, and he apparently was surprised at the responses he got. (Reply to this)(Thread)

	I get that people thought their lives were in danger as well, but really, how many times has this scenario played out? And people are still saying "I'll believe the liar until you provide PROOF!" You know, while I sympathized with them at first, by the end of it les_voyages, prime_radiant, and pdanielson were just getting the hell on my nerves, and I don't even know them. The mods are behaving very maturely, while everyone else is just being annoying and, as was said several times by the more rational of u_penn's community memebers, counterproductive.

To summarize: les_voyages, prime_radiant, and pdanielson need to just shut up and stop making an even bigger mess. Get off the internets and go read a book or something.
