Fun with LiveJournal announcements
These are always fun, the wank always flows freely here.

----

In the announcements the staff have said that even more password change nags are coming. Most aren't too happy with it and literally every single time anyone complains, comments on or questions it, the aptly named [info]ragingemu spams them with this:

Boilerplate comment:

-Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with LiveJournal.-

Every LiveJournal user's password affects other users. Not only could someone who compromised your account read locked entries made by people who list you as a friend, but of far greater concern, in no small part because it's an ongoing problem, is the threat of people using compromised-and therefore legitimate-looking accounts to spam hundreds of communities in an attempt to spread malware. Not only does this legitimately endanger and result in the harm of other LiveJournal users, the subsequent clean-up takes a lot of otherwise unnecessary time and effort on the part of LiveJournal's staff.

By requiring more complex passwords which are consequently much harder to crack for the automated password-guessing break-in programs used by these attackers, LiveJournal's administrators are making all of us safer, and saving us and themselves plenty of time and headaches further down the road, so that LiveJournal can be a safer, better place.

May I remind you all that this thread is a good 11+ pages long, so there's quite a few of these 'boilerplates'.

----

We also have eight million people complaining about the seasonal banner, but that's not interesting enough to report here.

----
For another bit of actual wank, we have a lovely Christian bashing subthread. Watch out for the sweeping generalisations!

Quoting [info]rfjason:
Christians are nothing but hate. They hate gays, they hate other religions (there are entire BOOKS that compare the bible to the Qu'ran, and make it a point to slam the Qu'ran as a flawed work by a flawed people, to put it mildly), and they hate anything that threatens the "word of God."

Did you miss the whole Intelligent Design debate? Christians are nuts.

He makes me feel for Christians and for atheists for having him in their corner.

----

Then we have another junior wank in the subthread here started off by this post by [info]renardius:
Holiday shenanigans
Nobody wants it, nobody needs it. A waste of time, and an unkind message to out atheist friends.

Staff changes
Nobody cares, as long as it works.

The move to SanFran
So, you lock down the site for a while and unleash glitches to relocate the servers to smack-dab on top of the San Andreas Fault? Smooth. Enjoy your Rice-a-Roni.

Passwords
Again, unwanted. When your rival sites start launching massive haxoring attempts, then I'll worry about my password.

Frank
Frank's journal is now socialized? Fantastic. By the way, I always found it amusing that LiveJournal's mascot was an animal with a propensity for stubbornness and eating trash.

Our good friends [info]rfjason and [info]ragingemu make a reappearence in the comments.

That's about it for the wanks, but knowing the announcement threads, more will come later. Let me know if I botch up the links!

The LJ crew could mention that, weather permitting, the sky was usually blue and there'd be hell to pay over it.

I find myself wondering if the thing many users would care about most, in the event of another San Franciso earthquake, would be LJ going down.

Signs point to yes.

Aw, people are complaining about the holiday banner? Figures.

I like it, though. Did you see the little Ski Free robot in the corner? :D

Ehh, I've never really been a fan of Christmas, so seeing it everywhere is kind of annoying. But that's just me. I just ignore the banner and go on my merry LJ way.

The password nags are another story, though. Goddamnit, if I want my password to be Snapeisadicksmoker, it will BE Snapeisadicksmoker and no force on Earth will change it. Unless I'm banned for it, that is.

One wonders why rfjason doesn't just start his own blog/journaling service and invite all his friends to use it.

Of course, one also wonders why someone hasn't taking a bat to his head yet, so wondering is probably overrated.

rfjason's one of those wankers like queenmadeline- so deep into it, you can't tell whether it's an elaborately constructed troll persona or they are actually that batshit.

I mean, this is the same guy who advocated the quarter method (leave a stack of quarters on the table at a restaurant, add or subtract as points for your server) in customers_suck, and basically said people who didn't survive Katrina were stupid, etc, etc,...

OT, but Rfjason says that on his personal domain he's still not receiving comment notifications.

Is blacklisting the real reason for the comment notification problem? Or is it something else? I use gmail and they're not going in my spam folder.

What's wrong with the seasonal banner? I've gotten the impression that there's something creepy/disturbing/wrong hidden in it, yet no matter how I stare at it I can't see anything out of the ordinary.

There are quite a few atheists who have been known to make me mad, but this just takes the fucking cake.

Dear rfjason:

Get the everloving fuck out of my non-religion and open your goddamn eyes. Any institution that causes that much charity work cannot possibly be "nothing but hate". I've also seen a lot of atheists whining about how there are a few okay Christians but the ones who let you know they're Christian are all judgmental assholes. These atheists are full of shit. Most of the Christians I've met have been pretty damn good people.

And I am an atheist, so you can bet your life that I wouldn't be making that comparison if it weren't true.

No love,
Miss Padfoot

So, wait.

If I am not a total asshole, I am not a 'real christian'.

But if I associate with Christianity in ANY way, I am an agent of hate.

Hmm.

I suggest that [info]rfjason should try to wedge that rod out of his ass. A holy Christian rod, at that.

There was also a nice little wanky subthread about freebies for paid users thanks to the problems over the last few weeks. Cue people calling her greedy, others jumping in to say they have perm accounts, and of course, free users pouting that they were inconvienced as well. XD

~Damien, who has one paid personal account, three comms, one paid RP account and 6-7 free RP accounts, and therefore doesn't complain as long as they let her stay on the site.

I've learned not to take the Christian-bashing seriously, because really, there's only so many times you can jump into an argument going "We're not all like that! Really!"

But [info]rfjason needs a big helping of STFU. And possibly to live in an area with more tolerant Christians. o.O
