Nothing Says "I Love Icons" Like a Good Flame War In The Morning

GJ's anti_theft community got hit with the wank big time yesterday.

Icon Wank - Chapter 1

It appears to begin when winnipegg expresses her outrage over being accused of icon theft.

An icon is not just an icon! It's art, damn you!

I've spent over $200 on graphic editing software just for making lj icons, therefore whether or not we break "copywrite" laws by stealing images from the original artists is not something to be considered!



Icon Wank - Chapter 2

A new thread of wank follows it. _christine proudly admits to being an icon thief and rubs it in the other members faces, leading to a grand total of 63 angry replies.

I thought this was a place where people would pay more attention to me, but clearly it doesn't work that way. This community is worthless! I'm leaving and I'm taking my LOTR icon with me.

You know, I can understand people being a little annoyed at icons being stolen. I can understand contacting someone who's stolen an icon and saying, "Um, look, hey, could you credit me, or take it down or something?"

Now rx_queen is saying 'Icon makers, I agree with a post below me that said something like you have to be calm about things because sometimes they really didn't know they did anything wrong.'

This is the same person who still hasn't admited she was wrong to label half a dozen people on the twisted_icons community thieves with no proof, and then disabled comments when they defended themselves.

I don't think I've ever paid for software. Why buy PSP8 when PSP7 is free and has almost the same features? And if you want something extra, there's always a free plugin around somewhere.

Vidders will spend thousands. On software and on editing-dedicated computers, sometimes. Not to mention traveling to several cons a year for some of 'em.

For what are basically visual songfics. Mmmyep.

Granted, I love the visual crack as much as anyone, but if I had that much money to blow - whew. You would not see me doing that, then turning around to bitch at everyone who doesn't for not being dedicated enough.
