Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood:Fantastico

Next time a store clerk is rude to you, rip them off!
It's not ice cream wank. I wish it were. But [info]bad_service has either the world's most entitled gamer creep, or a damn stubborn troll complete with sockpuppets.

[info]1_up makes a post entitled GameStop denies my rights to beautiful box art... and proceeds to, at length, tell the story of how he purchased a game from them, found that the display box for the game had been stolen, tried several different stores without luck, and ultimately stole the display box at another store after the manager there would not give it to him.

He gets no love.

That is, until his sockpuppet friends arrive.

Some of [info]1_up's original post:
Passionate gamers like myself relish things like nicely designed game boxes and artfully created manuals. Hell, we usually read those before playing the game - it's almost ritualistic. However, in the face of this deal, I had to concede that desire. It was just too much to pass up.

However, I had the good idea of checking other local GS's for MP2 boxes. Surely they would accomodate if they could, right? Wrong.

I encountered a particularly annoying group of assholes at the next GS I went to. It was not busy at all, and all the employees were mulling around the cashwrap, one with his hideous troll girlfriend, and they were all squeeking, snorting, and gibbering about anime and hentai.

I butt in and ask if they have an MP2 box I could use. The manager, who I deemed the alpha-nerd because his elevated status in the employment hierarchy has instilled him with some kind of cocky uber-nerd like ability to be smarmy and supercilious, doesn't even look in the storage and tells me he has none.

Alrite, I figured, but I still wanted to look around while I was there; I am never able to just walk in and out of a video game store. So in my meandering, I find a MP2 box. Hm, interesting, I thought. The thought of just grabbing it and leaving flitted through my mind, probably because that's why I didn't have one in the first place, but I dismissed it with rational though. So I grabbed it, walked up to the desk and inform the oily grease-being with bad hair that I found a box, and that I want it.

He's tells me he can't give it to me because it's the display box. I explain to him that the display box for mine was stolen, so that's why I need one. So he goes about to make the swap and asks for my receipt. He gives it a cursory look and then looks up at me and tells me he can't give me the box because it's for a new game, and I bought a used one.

....
I call up the other GS in town. And, luck be a hapless youth cashier, the pre-pubescent waste of masculinity tells me they have one. Amazing. I tell him I'll be by for it tomorrow. He tells me he will put it aside.

I arrive the next day, he goes to retrieve it. Gone. He claims it was sold. I asked if he put it aside and he said he did, but someone must have sold it. He checks the back to appease me, but to no avail. I curse under my breath and curse the store as I leave.

....
I surely make my way to the GameCube section. I search for, and find, the MP2 box. Still where I left it. I pick it up, and I pick other boxes up. Pretending to be comparing, contrasting, making a decision. I pace around and read and look. I place the boxes back on the shelf. Back on the shelf closest to the door.

A customer asks the manager about something and he heads into the backroom. Now was my chance. I pocket the case, head out the door, hop into my car, and drive off into the night.

You fuck. Who's laughing now?

Response thread highlights:

The customer is NOT always right. Sometimes, he's an ass. And, in your case, a thief.

Dude, how many billy-goats did you eat today? *Stands up, claps in awe* You're one of the best trolls I've seen in a long time.

Was anyone else getting a 'Comic Book Guy' (from the Simpsons) vibe? I so totally was.

I think I know who the true "alpha-nerd" is, and yes, he's a thieving, entitled bastard. Over a box. He doesn't seem to know how to use an lj-cut, either.

Since the new and used titles were the SAME price, why did you not just get the NEW one that COMES WITH THE BOX that you so covet?

hey, in the real world we call that "shoplifting". nice job.

For about a half an hour after the comments come rolling in, [info]1_up answers them all. Then, suddenly, he stops - and buddies [info]djmslide and [info]dr_funkenstein8 appear. (Amusingly, the Great Doctor of Funk(enstein) seems to be a ripoff journal - created today - of one of [info]1_up's actual friends.)

Every single one of you is wrong. This man is right in every thing he did. He deserved the box, he didn't get the box, he resorted to normal methods, then he had to resort to that.

If you basement dewellers would step out into the light once in awhile, you would realize the world is a cold bitch. Instead of being on the recieving end of some nerds power trip, steal the box, be a theif, whatever label you want to put on it, but at least you are taking charge of the situation instead of falling victim to it.

Actually, my favourite part of the whole deal is when people point out that [info]dr_funkenstein8's journal was created five minutes before his first comment, and he claims that that is because it was "axed" due to 6 months of inactivity.

Ended up crossposted to [info]customers_suck here, though there's not much else there.

ETA: Fixed the link to the C_S crosspost.

ETA 2: [info]1_up plays the "I did all this on purpose, you all lose, STFU now!" card.

WTF. He didn't get what he wanted, so he /stole/ it, and expects to be praised for that? He wants acclaim for something illegal because his basement-living lousy jobless bitch ass was "screwed over" -- oh, retard, just get a job and pay for the game full price!

Oh, but he has a job. At GE. Where he makes ex-sorbet-tant money...labelling CDs or something, so far as I could tell. And even more hiring himself out as a dire warning to people who think that being an arrogant upper-middle-class dick is a fair trade for giving up one's dream of being an emo kid.

What? No, passionate gamers rip the disc out of the box without regard for the art and start playing immediately, because control schemes rarely change enough between games to require that you read the manual, and games all have a "learn the interface" level.

Maybe because I've often ended up with a game or DVD without the coverbox/insert, I'm not seeing the driving need to have to have a proper box for something. Besides, it doesn't take much to find a scan site and print one out if it's that important for it to look pretty on the shelves with everything else.

And this is his response:
Wow, look at all this senseless babble.

Look how popular I got for voicing my opinion. I love the power of words; nouns and verbs.

Hey, I can understand if you disagree, that's cool. I'm not here for your consent, we all do things for reasons.

But stop being lame and saying stupid shit.

I noticed that people have started diving into my LJ and calling me out for saying things in times of extreme emotion. I call that superficial.

You want to settle this with a some witty proverb? How bout, what goes around comes around?

Also, anything and everything I said that you all reacted to you was on purpose. You internet weasels are so ridiculously sensitive to anything people say and jump at the opportunity to voice your opinion and be heard.

Hahahah, oh man. WHAT an experiment. Alrite, game over. Go rant and preach your broken philosophies and spread your twisted and immature tongues of speech to other people like myself who do this for entertainment.

Such a paradox ... the internet, probably one of the most technologically sophisticated advancement in years, crawling with idiots.

As a disclaimer, this does not apply to everyone. Obviously, some of you people who contributed were just doing so from a purely (well, mostly) benevolent point of view, did so amicably and peacefully, and were unaware that this was just some game. Thanks for the concern though. The rest of you? Well, we could start making this world a better place by throwing your collective asses in some vessel and shooting it into the sun.

um...yeah. whatever :P

Does anyone actually take this "customer is always right" rubbish seriously? It's completely unworkable. Quite often the customer is a) unreasonable b) lying in order to defraud the company and/or c) very, very stupid. You can't afford to pander to people who are overly demanding, dishonest or have poorly functioning brains.

But maybe I'm just bitter because I work at a rental shop, with customers who don't understand that if they keep their DVDs and games over the due date all the time and don't pay fines, we don't actually WANT their return custom.

I work at EBGames. This just... I stopped reading after this :

He's tells me he can't give it to me because it's the display box. I explain to him that the display box for mine was stolen, so that's why I need one. So he goes about to make the swap and asks for my receipt. He gives it a cursory look and then looks up at me and tells me he can't give me the box because it's for a new game, and I bought a used one.
....

The difference between a new game and a used game is like...I can't even think of a good analogy, its a BIG DIFFERENCE. A used game doesn't need box art or manual, YOU PAY FOR THE CD and that's final.

A new game has to have these things. Its new. I... my mind, she is blown!

I dunno if this was posted but it was so funny when he argued that the new and used games were the same price and that we also have generic boxes for the used games so why not the new?

1. Used games are traded in. We don't require you to trade it in with a box/manual.

2. New games are well, new, and we pretty much garuntee an original box otherwise we have to give 10% off.

3. They may be display boxes but the last copy of the game goes in them. We can't swap new/used boxes.

God I'm so glad I quit cause even if his story is fake I still had to deal with asshats like him. (My biggest pet peeve: People thinking I got comission when I managed to get them to reserve/subsribe.)

(PS. I was neither greasy, nor did I have flaky skin and I rarely discussed anime/hentai.)
