[info]ginmar is back. Well, she was never gone, but still...

This is a follow up to this wank, posted to otf_wank in January 2005, almost one year ago.

Nice pet mousie pointed to it on wank_report.

Anyway, it seems the two still have problems.

Is there wank here? Ginmar's not even reminding us that we haven't seen mass graves or breaking out capslocks o' rage.

Well, it's a follow up to a wank that involved caps lock o' rage and LJ abuse, so I thought otf_wank is appropiate.

If only that post on the other woman's journal was public...

Whoa. Ginmar's friends are almost as wanky as Ginmar herself:

If the flaming was publically done, then so should the apology. I had a teacher belittle and humiliate my son in front of the entire class. She tried the smarmy after class "I am so sorry if I upset him" when I showed her that she was in the wrong. I told her I would not accept the apology unless done in the same manner she spoke before. She refused.

So I showed up a few days later, and interrupted her class. I showed the entire class that she was wrong, in a slightly less belittling manner. Unlike her, I didn't get the entire class to laugh at her, as she did to my son. But I did get my point across. She stammered an apology to him and to me.

...And now the kid's on the teacher's shit list for the rest of the year, and the mother is on every teacher's shit list for life. Way to deal with the problem with maturity and tact!

Gods! Someone finally sees things like that besides me! I swear I was the only one in my school to get that bit of politicking between student/teacher/parent.

the teacher was probably stammering the apology because a) she was trying so hard not to laugh, or b) she was trying to figure out what the hell kind of psychotic moron she was dealing with.

If they'd done that to one of my kids, i definitely would have handled it better. Taking her to task in front of the class the way she did was not the way to go about it. You go to their bosses, try to deal with things in a manner that doesn't make you look like a raving bitch and make life hell for your kid.

A number of parents have tried those tactics with a friend of mine after she did such things as give a student bad grades when he wasn't doing his work (the horror!). She laid the almighty smackdown of rightiousness upon them when she could. I feel for this kid, and for this teacher at having to deal with the lunacy.

That post is frustrating. "I'm sorry IF" is a half-assed apology, but without access to the flocked post, there's no way of knowing if Cheshyre actually wrote that. It reminds me of those anonymemes where someone says, "I have a big secret but I can't say what it is." I want to know!

The whole "We shall dictate apologies and what is okay to say in them" thing going on there put me firmly against them, because I *cough* recently made a truly felt apology saying that I didn't intend to hurt someone. It's like the opposite of what ataniell was saying or something.

The apologies were sent via email, not posted on LJ. What Cheshyre's supposed to have boasted about is flaming ginmar, and after she apologized.

Which would negate the apologies.

I believe I read the post involved; it was an intro post to bad_feminists which basically said "got on the bad side of one of lj's most well-known feminists." Followup questions about it were answered with "I don't want to talk about it here." Her name wasn't even mentioned. It's just more blahblahginmarblahblah.

For some reason, reading the follow-up wank reminds me why the first wank was so stupid. They're arguing about symantics of an apology? Come on people. A half-assed apology is better than nothing at all, one would think.

Not necessarily. Somethimes the half-assed apology is made to make the original offence sting even worse.

Of course, what kind of problems they're having depends on whether you believe Ginmar's account of events, since the other party doesn't seem to be posting publically about any of it.

And how accurate is Ginmar's characterization of people she disagrees with?

About the marketing of the Female Sexual Disorder drug (from the original wank): I assume that such a thing would be by perscription, which would mean that the woman in a relationship would need to go get a perscription. So, lets say that it's marketed like to men like "Not getting enough sex from your woman? Get her this pill, and she'll turn into a horny slut!" The hypothetical male sooner or later realizes that a perscription is needed,
and...

MAN: "Hey, honey, you know how you don't want sex as often as I do? Well, it's because you have Female Sexual Disorder! Go to your doctor and get a perscription for this here drug."

WOMAN: "WTF? Just 'cause I don't want to have sex all the time doesn't mean I have some disorder, you schmuck."

Assuming that, instead of the argument either dying down or causing a breakup, the woman is badgered into going to a doctor, the doctor will say that, indeed, merely not wanting sex all the time isn't a sexual disfunction.

Now, if the drug didn't need a perscription, I could easily see it being marketed (and packaged/sold) in ways that wink-wink-nudge-nudged about how you could slip the drug to your wife/girlfriend in her food or drink without her even realizing.

... Y'know, if/when this drug is ever approved by the FDA, I'm sure there'll be a whole slew of spam like that, without the winking or nudging.

Except other versions of "You don't want sex with me? YOU'RE FRIGID!" are not universally met with "WTF? Just 'cause I don't want to have sex all the time doesn't mean I have some disorder, you schmuck." (Admirable as that reply is.) Nor do I trust all doctors not to say, "Well, yes, if you don't fulfil your man's needs when you say you love him, you must indeed have some sort of disorder. If you don't want to try this drug, which I'd be happy to prescribe, honey, you should see a psychiatrist, who can give you any one of a whole bunch of other drugs for your extremely serious illness."

So, yeah, I do think the image the drug is given matters, because the popular image of female sexuality is already so screwed up.

Either that, or religious fundies will protest it, because it will turn women into sluts, make them have abortions, and cause the general downfall of society.

I wish.

Being a woman doesn't automatically protect you from being affected by society's massive issues with female sexuality. Even if it did, if you have an ongoing, complex problem (sexual incompatibility and relationship problems), it can be really tempting to believe the "simple" solution (here, take these pills).

And doctors have their own problems. They're human too, with prejudices just like the rest of us. There are lots of doctors out there who would automatically assume that a wife not wanting to have sex with her husband often enough (or at all) means there's something wrong with the wife. On top of that, doctors are often not that well-educated about the medicines they prescribe, and some can be easily pressured by patients who want that new drug they saw on the TV.
