Childfree wank without the childfree!
Thank God for it, too.

[info]nothingmuch is very very very very very very very very very very—

ahem.

—very offended at a post in cf_debate that DARES to ask why a limit on the number of cats is okay, but not limiting the number of kids, or something.

So she posts telling everyone about it.

The community members try to reason with her, which is about as effective as bashing their heads into a brick wall, because after all, as nothingmuch says, "Any time you roundly insult all children, you insult my child."

. . . right . . .

Were my cat and your child each about to fall from off a cliff, I highly suspect that you would attempt to rescue your child first. That's fine. Me, however? I'd go for the cat. That's fine as well.

I have NO words...

Yeah, at least the cat could possibly land on it's feet or something. :P

It's happened off high-rise buildings, apparently.

What a stupid fucking question. I think if I absolutely had to choose to do something, I'd rather save both and get hurt then do one or the other. Why do people always assume you can do one or the other, but not both?

I've been distracted by the post about the legality of a 16 year old moving in with a 30 year old, and a comment that states:

I was seeing a 53 year old (casual fling rather than in-depth relationship - which _may_ make a difference, I'm not sure) at 16, and we were entirely happy with our interactions and got on wonderfully. Then again, I left school at 15 (I was one of the youngest in our year group and so my 16th birthday fell after we'd left in the June) and was already out at work and living as an adult, even I I did still live at home with my parents.

This is a rather special community, isn't it?

Now, for the post at hand. Wow, OP is definitely looking for a fight. And the iHitler icon is interesting.

My child is included under "children." If you insult children, then you insult my child.
Definitely taking it personally, there. Yipes. This looks like friendslocked personal LJ post fodder to me, not something to put in a debate comm.

I always wonder about the older parties in those relationships. I mean, I can understand the point of view of the 15 year old. All 15 year olds feel that they are incredibly mature and just naturally a billion times more grown-up and wonderful than anyone their own age and most people older.

PS: If you are 15 and living with your parents I don't care if you work 8 hours a day, you are not living as an adult. I don't care if they make you pay rent.

But what kind of sick bastard 53 year old (or 30 year old, or 20 year old for that matter) do you have to be to date a 15 year old? How immature are these people that they can have a satisfactory romantic relationship with someone who is barely post-pubescent?

Well, I could see her response given the comments she's getting on the thread she posted, but the OP she's upset about really seems to generate the general answer of "Well, regardless of whether it's children or pets, people should only take on as much as they can handle, and that number really shouldn't be abridged by a third party." Which, all things considered, isn't offensive in and of itself.
