If you're not 100% male or female I will puke all over myself, kthxbi.
Woman with AIS queries Ask Metafilter about revealing this condition to potential sex partners.

A quick reply: I know we're all supposed to be PC about "intersex" conditions, but I think you're taking advantage of that expectation of sensitivity. Genetically, you're male. You don't just have a smaller vaginal canal; you have (or had until they were surgically removed) testes. Or in the vernacular, balls. In gaining their "consent" under false pretences, what you're doing is little different than getting someone to have sex by getting her drunk or slipping her a ruffie (sic).

Things go to MetaTalk and then get a little bit absolutely batshit fucking crazy. From XY = genetically male MUST INFORM YOU HAVE BALLS, non-science type plebes to actual science on why that's bullshit to not disclosing your entire medical history is one thing, but having sex with a heterosexual male without disclosing that you once had testicles that were surgically removed is entirely another. BEING STRAIGHT ISN'T PREJUDICE, you asshole to more Godwin and race references than you can shake a stick at, we have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of comments that are, as always, best summed up by quonsar: oooo, the tightness! what's her phone number?

There may be more but I couldn't finish the MeTa thread. The rage this gave me, it was too much.

I hereby call for genetic testing of everyone who posted in that thread.

I can GUARANTEE that some of them will be surprised. And, if there is a God, one of them will be Ortho.

Dear lord, where did these people learn genetics? I feel really sorry for the girl - what a hard thing to have to deal with when trying to have casual sexual relationships. As someone said, she may even face violence if she reveals it to the wrong person. :( Orthowhatever is a complete fuckhead.

That poor girl, it must be difficult for her.

I'd say that, if she's looking for a serious relationship, it's important to disclose it, but for a one night stand there's no need.

I'd also say that I can understand people being freaked out by it, but frankly I'd be more bothered if some girl I'd fucked turned out to be Christian than XY.

Also, I'd say that homosexuality involves attraction to the same sex. Not having sex with someone with similar chromosomes. If I like boobies and vulvas to the exclusion of penises, it doesn't matter to me whether the possessor of the boobies is XX.

Yeah, especially since he'd have to cut the woman open to get anywhere near her so-called "balls." Unless the guy is Jack the Ripper or something, I think he's safe from contracting the dread testicular cooties.

Testicular cooties. Snort.

Of course, it's probably closer to gay cooties, because any contact other than violence with another man = gay.

I shall have to rememeber to get my chromosomal testing done the next time I want to pick up a cheap fuck in a bar. Wouldn't want to be guilty of inadvertant OMGZ IT'S JUST LIKE RAPE! now, would I?

Sheesh.

Bugbread wins, though:

Well, if your incredibly large penis was a penis transplant from Hitler,
then I guess you don't. Sure, there are some folks who would get
squicked out by being fucked by Hitler's penis, but really, a penis is
just a penis, and what made Hitler bad was the wiring of his brain, not
the cells of his dong. If someone doesn't want to be fucked by a
transplanted penis just because it used to be Hitler's, they're the
weird ones, so they're responsible for asking whose penis you have
before sex.

I can only imagine the backpedaling we'd see if someone actually pointed out that all their "But she's genetically male!" arguments could work the other way for XX males. There is just absolutely no way they would ever admit that anyone that could possibly have developed something even slightly similiar to a penis and/or testes at any point of their lifespan since conception could even maybe somewhat look sort of like a girl they might wanna bang, oh nosirree bob!

If she gets into a Long-Term realationship, yeah, she should probably tell the guy.

Though to be bluntly honest, I have no idea how I'd react if my girlfriend (assuming I could find one) told me that. At the very least, I would require time to get used to the idea.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the questioner is living as a woman and has the appropriate naughty bits, other than a chromosome that no one except probably Superman could visibly see, she's the same as a sterile woman.

So I'm not seeing why there's such a commotion over 'teh ballz' since in the first place, they're not seen and secondly they've been removed.

But then I'm the one who was more concerned if we were still going to the movies when a friend admitted to having a sex change.

Responding to questions about scars, or when discussing issues of fertility with a potential long-term partner:

"There were some unusual issues with my ovaries, and the doctors were concerned that they might become cancerous so I had to have them removed. Unfortunately (or fortunately), this means I cannot have children. No birth control necessary for me!"

And, if she really wants kids:

"I've always intended to adopt."

The end.

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]herongale
2006-01-21 06:48 pm UTC (link)
To clarify: testes that never had the chance to develop properly are physiologically analagous to ovaries, and the reason they are removed is totally because of the risk of cancer, so what I am recommending is not, fundamentally, a lie... now, anyone with AIS can choose, if they wish, to be straightforward about it. But women with AIS ARE women, and shouldn't need to feel obligated to defend this status if they'd rather not. The truth that any potential partner needs to know is that she cannot have children, but I don't think that the specific mechanics of this need to be laid out.

(And, honestly, where does this informed-consent idea end with these people? Do I have to inform all my potential sex partners that I'm Jewish, because if they're anti-Semitic they might be traumatized later?)
