bad_service goes political!
[info]wyldthyng posts to [info]bad_service about difficulties in her ability to vote in Canada's election. All is well and good until the end of the post, when she says "Bravo Elections Canada, you get a mu'fuggin' cookie. And Canada gets a frightening minority government."

Cue the wank, which is less the usual political fight and more a strange spectacle of conversation about Canada vs. the U.S., in particular about health care, in which [info]foxx seems to be under the impression that medical care in the States is vastly superior as far as availability and that paying for medical care is as simple as "they send a bill in the mail, then you pay them, or have it go to collections and pay collections off."

Yeah . . . sure it is. Those rose-colored glasses must be spot-welded.

O_o It would be nice if it worked that way....

When I've had a large bill that insurance covered as much as it could on and it still was a whopper, I've just called billing and discussed payment arrangements. They've always been very agreeable to me.

You know that's great for people with insurance. For those of us that don't, we have to either pay right away or search for a place that will let us do payments.

Considering most hospitals are non-profit organizations, they tend to be willing to work out a payment plan if you talk it over with them as soon as possible. It's more cost effective for them to do it that way then have to go through the full deal with collections and court.

But then my experiences even before I had insurance were with large hospitals either in the city or attached to universities so it might differ elsewhere.

Becuase I want to go to a hospital everytime I need a doctor. And I'd really rather not go to parkland unless it is a emergance.

Even with a payment plan some things like dentist bills can be horrible.

Oy, it's a good thing I read it here first, otherwise I would be right in there wanking away. Not just the political stuff, but the medical stuff.

Why yes, I am both a politics and medical geek.

Foxx is a US brown nosing idiot not worth paying much attention to. She even admits that she shouldn't be taken seriously in her userinfo. Worse yet, she says that if she were a cat, she would have been killed.

Kind of tells you something there, eh?

God knows Canada isn't perfect, but at least they can pretend to have more choices that are VIABLE.

We're... not perfect?

But... but... I WANNA BE PERFECT!

*sigh*

Actually, it's the amount of anti-American rhetoric I have to put up with every day that makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with the world. (No, not living in Canada - in the UK. As soon as I answer "No, I'm Canadian", there's a bunch of "Oh, thank god you're not one of them." I mean... why? Because I instantly become a hateful person based entirely on my country of origin instead of on my own behaviour?)

Heh. I have a good idea what that's like. Try visiting Greece. Talk about mixed opinions on the US over there.

I'm an American in Canada. You have correctly captured the thought mechanism.

Oh god... I am *so sorry*.

This is the part where I pretend I'm not Canadian.

Hey, not your fault. I try to remember that it's individual people and their individual fuckwitted thought mechanism, but sometimes it is very very difficult, such as when Americans got blamed for the Eaton Centre shooting, because even if it was a Canadian who actually picked up the gun and did the shooting, clearly it's the Americans' fault for being allowed to have guns in the first place.

*rereads* ... *cleans up after self, slinks away*

Firstly, where dos foxx live and is scientology frequent there?
Secondly, why do the non-Canuks seem to 'know more' than the actual ones? Don't live there, can't form an opinion, eh?

And while I'm upset that the Tories won too, people are right, there are no other options. The Liberals need to take a break to re-think what the fuck they're doing, the NDP wouldn't know what to do and the Bloc is the Bloc.
And it's a minority so things won't get too bothered.

Aaand that's why so many of my friends voted Green. (I was counting on at least one Marxist-Leninist or Marijuana Party candidate in my riding, but no such luck).

See now, "The NDP wouldn't know what to do," is actually a real reason not to vote for them. (Although really, if they never form a government, they'll never know what to do, right?)

Much better than, "The NDP is too left even for Canada."

Can I move to Foxx's America? They have affordable health care there! And choices among power companies that are more substansive than the name on the check!

From the west? Considering the West has been almost entirely ignored for the last 20 years, I'd reconsider that remark.

I'd rather be ignored for another 20, thanks much.

The West should try being from the Maritimes. Ignored forever... and staying ignored. :p

(No, Mr Harper "I have relatives there" does not count as giving a d*mn about Atlantic Canada. It's like that "Some of my best friends are _______" line.)

I just need to wank about her opinion on "bad service" at the election.

Dude, I was a DRO, and we got paid $180 for over 14 hours of work where we could only take a break and leave if no one was there. Yes, it was a lot of sitting on my ass, but my ass hurt at the end of the day. And if you have some weird situation, yeah, it'll take longer. Bitch, please. We ain't professionals and we were all trying damn hard to make sure you could vote easily and in a pleasant manner, as is your right.

She didn't even get treated that badly! A mistake happened, she was crossed off by accident, they fixed it as best they could. These things HAPPEN. Last election, I had to get my mother to vouch that I hadn't already voted because she was my only means of transportation to the ridiculously far polling station. (They changed the riding boundaries, so our OLD polling station which was a ten minute walk from my house was now in another riding and we had to vote at a place that was a half hour drive away)

If she thinks having to quickly fill out the registration form was bad, she should try being a student. We had to stand in a half hour lineup to re-register because they sent us all to one polling station and most of us were registered back in our home ridings. :p
