I don't think he did anything against equality. He didn't say anything about if it was harder than being a female feminst. He was just voiceing his opinion and experience, something that should be valued, as in valuing all opinions and experiences and feelings and being equal. Now, if he would have said "It's so much harder" then yes, that would be crossing lines. By why would you react so strong to someone expressing themselves and wanting understanding?
Can't we all just get a dong?

I checked, and Likeawoman's LJ is filled with Feminist!Liberal!Yar!posts.

Also, I love Viggie's first icon here, if only for the mild irony of her using it at the same time she uses a completely condescending quote.

I see where this guy is coming from. I'm a feminist who's decidedly male and I too have felt like I wasn't being taken seriously as one because of my gender. At the same time, if feminism is really an important matter to him, it shouldn't matter if he can't play in the girls' clubhouse.

You see, I've always said, "well, I don't want children, but I don't want to be associated with the batshit loonies in cf_hardcore, so I'll call myself childless instead of childfree". This reminds me of the RL wank explosion that happened at my ultra-liberal campus. Some girls decided the feminist group already in place wasn't militant enough, and so they were starting a new one. Not only did they plaster campus with a bunch of "real feminist" stories that were either lies, uneducated assumptions, or completely unrelated to feminism, they also insisted on no males whatsoever. Maybe, they said, once they had a group started and knew where they were going, they would open membership to males.

Boy, did they get torn to hell over that.

This is why I, despite being an ED-recovering, science degree holding, thinks math is easy, works at a hardware store woman, will never, ever identify as feminist.

It's a shield for women who've yet to take hold of their lives point out a scapegoat. Yes, there are negative pressures. Yes, our society used to think less of us because of our reproductive organs. But women who act like most on that feminist community do, fulfill negative female stereotypes and are the complete opposite of proactive. And are too busy telling men they're being evil for being born with a Y chromosome to go out and seize and make more opportunities for themselves. Ugh.

LikeAWoman roxx0rs my sockz0rs, but the whole thread just reminds me of why I don't debate feminism anymore. When people engage me in real life I tend to just remind people I have wildly unpopular opinions, and try to turn the conversation to what I saw some squirrels do the other day.
