Whine whine feminism sucks whine
Nabbed from a mousie on wank_report.

ONTD reports that Betty Friedan has died. And of course, [info]bunnicula38 would like you all to know that "Uuuh, thanks to the Feminine Mystique, husbands make their wives work and women have to put out before marriage." And it goes downhill from there.

Feminism is a silly thing! "I want to have it easier. I don't care about having equal status to men." Because you know what? It's based on ideals, that have no chance of ever happening, because men do not like house work, so therefore the wimmins should stay home and take care of the bebies!!

Feminism did nothing important whatsover, except turn men into shallow, violent bastards who do not worship the Mighty Vagina! "Yes, you can have the job of your choice, but don't expect to be married if you don't shave, wear make up, thongs or are the slightest bit overweight."

You might wonder if Betty Friedan personally raped her cat, or something. Actually, feminism ruined Bunnicula38's childhood!
"I was looking at how good my mother in law, who had the option of staying at home, had it. She was married to a loving man who provided for her and their seven children. This was during the 1950s. Then I compare this to my being raised in a household where my mother worked and I was stuck in day care. I resented my mother for working and always wanted her at home."

Not only that, but it's feminism's fault for just giving jobs to women, but not changing society to accept ugly, fat people! "Being able to become a lawyer or doctor is not necessarily a sign of improvement for women. As long as women fall into this patriarchal standard of beauty and don't make the choice of being their own person, then they are not truly liberated."

But Bunnicula38 apologizes and all is seemingly forgiven. Yay!

Lesser wank about whether or not 'lol' is an appropriate response, or the post is appropriate, or whether learning about American history is appropriate.

And also, though not particularly wanky, "Friedan was just for affluent white women, not all women!"

I, however, was thrilled to see 'Bunnicula' referenced (even if by a wanker) and that little cartoon guy in someone's icon. So, a good time is had by all!

ETA: More Wtfuckery.

...and her icons. It all goes back to HP, doesn't it?

This is only related to the wank if you squint a lot, but it's beautiful and it kind touches on some of the stupidity linked above and I want to share it.

John Darnielle (of the Mountain Goats) on Betty Friedan's death:
Betty Friedan died today. She was eighty-five years old. Eighty-five is plenty of time to spend in a world like this one, so we don't complain that she was taken too soon from us. Rather we mourn the loss of a person whose impact on the world, and more particularly on American culture, was so great that it would take real effort to overstate it. This isn't to say that that impact won't be grossly distorted in the days to come; there will be much saliva sprayed by such op-ed mouthbreathers as yearn for a time when single mothers had to throw themselves on the mercy of the state or beg for charity. These people deserve the constant aggravation you see on their faces and in the thobbing veins of their necks. We wish them ill tonight.

It was Betty Friedan who pointed out to American men and women that there was really no reason a woman couldn't be anything she wanted to be. It was rather radical, in 1963, to suggest that a woman could be perfectly happy with neither a husband nor a child to her name. Suffrage gave woman the vote; Betty Friedan gave them hope, and the power to dream, and in so doing she brought us all a step closer to liberation. For if we tolerate a world in which our mothers — and our sisters; and our daughters, and our wives; our closest friends and dearest companions — are not free to follow their dreams and to chase down their passions, in short to seek out their true selves, then that world is a paltry thing, and our own lives within it are greatly diminished.

The school of thought that Betty Friedan set in motion came to be called feminism. Much damage has been done to its name over the past twenty years or so, largely by people who don't understand what it means ("the radical notion that women are human beings," a phrase from an old bumper sticker, sums the truth of it up nicely) but who, make no mistake, would not like it any better if they did. Such people aren't just my enemies, nor only yours. They the enemies of freedom itself. Betty Friedan, you spent much of your life reducing the power of such people, and we are all better for it. Though it can do you no good in your final rest, I thank you all the same. I owe you. We all do. Rest well.

Dear Bunnicula,

Just because you don't want equal rights doesn't mean the rest of us don't. Die, plzkthx.

Reminds me of the election wherein we (Oregon) had the referendum to define marriage as between a man and a woman. You'd think gays speaking out against it would be a no-brainer, right? Wrong. There were a few gay couples, including one who actually did advertisements for the pro-36 side, who were saying, "We don't need marriage, so this is a good idea!" Because, you know, since they could afford to hire lawyers and make legal arrangements in case one of them was ill or died, means that all gay couples could, and those who wanted actual marriage rights were just being silly and lazy.

Dear Bunnicula,

My mother could not afford to stay home with us, so she and my dad both worked. Neither complained. At least not until I was older, and a radical notion championed by Freidan came to be the standard. To this day, my mother is angry she was paid less than men working the same job because she was a woman and was denied promotions because she was a woman. She could have used that money to help her family.

I'm sorry your mom could not be at home with you when you were small as you wanted. I went to work, but my kids didn't mind. They preferred their dad as the stay-home parent.

It's all about choice, you silly woman. There is no law that says a parent can't stay home with a child or that you must have pre-marital sex.

The keyword there is "option." Feminism means that women have options. Some choose to stay home, while others choose to work. Or, in bunnicula's case, act like douchebags on the internet.

I was looking at how good my mother in law, who had the option of staying at home, had it. She was married to a loving man who provided for her and their seven children. This was during the 1950s.

During the 1950's, my grandmother, who had the option of staying home, was married to an abusive alcoholic who kept all his wages for himself and made her go out and work to support herself and their three kids. She couldn't leave him because you didn't do that in the 1950's. But hey--if she'd stayed home, she wouldn't have been looked down on, and that's the important thing. Right?

Me, I like making my own money and putting out before marriage. I also like it when guys put out for me. And I hate housework.

Apparently, I'm a man.

*looks at chest*

I appear to have a couple of spare boobies. Does anyone want extra...?
