Mini-wank on my local freecycle list (You won't be able to see it, as you have to be a member to view the messages).

Leosgranddaughter posted an ad for a couple garbage bags full of old, but still usable, blankets.

Evidently Glenn was upset that he didn't get the blankets as he posted the following after Leosgranddaughter posted a "Taken" update to the list:

"i cant beleave people dont know how to check their
e-mails...its the bottom e-mail thay comes in is the
first one....not the top one"

This would have been all good and well, since replies don't go to the list, they go to the poster, but Leosgranddaughter decided to post Glenn's reply to the list and give a snitty (and rightfully so) rundown of the rules.
One of the rules is that members may choose to give their items to whomever they please, and that it's not a "first come first serve" type of deal.

A few others joined in and posted 'new' messages to the list ripping Glenn a new one.

I'm just waiting for Glenn to post in his defense or something equally as dense.

Ah, sorry, I'll translate...at least my take on it.

Glenn evidently figured he e-mailed Leosgranddaughter before ANYONE because, ZOMG, USED BLANKETS! MUST HAVE!
He didn't get said blankets, so obviously it means that Leosgranddaughter started reading e-mails from the top down.

With Yahoo webmail at its default settings, the 'first sent' messages aren't at the top of the list, they're down at the bottom. Older messages get pushed down by newer messages, as it is with most e-mail program/page default settings.
So, clearly, Leosgranddaughter screwed Glenn out of free blankets by not reading her e-mail in the proper order.

Or something to that effect.
I could be mis-reading it, it's not very clear.

I can't beleave he could figure any of that out, or even how to use email in the first place!

Funny that. Mine's the exact opposite.

I think it depends on how your client is set up.

By default, Yahoo webmail puts the 'most recent' at the top, which would mean that the one that arrived first would be at the bottom of the list of new messages.

Yeah, I always switch it 'cause that drives me nuts 'cause I like reading things in chronological order. And stuff.

I should switch mine, but I'm lazy and conditioned to reading from the bottom up anyway.
My head might implode if I changed that after 10 or so years.

It's switchable?! OMG, I feel so stupid now...

Mine keeps switching back. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

It's not permanently switchable, least so far as I can tell (and I've been using Yahoo to one degree or another for 5 years now (which really isn't that long, come to think of it)). I'm just a persistent little bugger and do it every time.

Huh. My Yahoo account did switch permanently when I told it to. Perhaps it's a settings glitch.

Crud muffins! I'm probably just missing something little and dumb in the settings and such.

You have to do it in some options feature. You can do it for the time in the inbox (or whatever folder) but have ot get in to the complicated mess that they call settings to switch it permanently.

That said, I've started reading my emails from the bottom up since by the time I realised it could be switched, I was so use to it the other way it wasn't worth it.

Coffee. Check.
Notebook. Check.
Nice pen. Check.
Wanker Induced Laugh. Check.

Guess I'm all ready to survive another boring office day. Thanks.
