Customers Suck Pregnancy wank!
It's really just one part of the thread, but i found it amusing nonetheless. A woman posts about how she feels she's been treated with disrespect by service people during her pregnancy.

Someone responds that pregnant women deserve respect. Someone else disagrees.

Watch mommy-to-be martyr herself! Watch an argument about disabilities and pregnant parking! Watch someone deliver this:

But just because someone has basketball-belly doesn't mean I'm going to defer to you and smile and coo over your fertility and be all impressed with how much you're giving up and the "sacred duty" you're taking on because you and your mate figured out how to insert Tab A into Slot B.

*giggle*

Don't lump everyone on CF together. I don't even see her being pregnant as an issue: The employee had no right to conduct himself in the manner that was reported. Period. Pregnant or not, she was polite, and he was a rude asshat.

The wank is in her making the pregnancy an issue. Perhaps that might have had something to do with it, but perhaps not. Regardless, it doesn't matter whether or not she was pregnant. She should not have been treated in the manner which was described in her post.

And others on CF do agree with that opinion I'm holding as well.

What Zanne said. The Childfree crowd is like Harry Potter fandom... just because the ones getting the most attention are the loud, idiotic asshats, doesn't mean that ALL of them are.
(Which doesn't negate either being entertaining when they're wanked, of course. n.n But lumping all ChildFree people in together is just as wrong as lumping all Harry Potter people in together. I'm a Harry Potter fan, but I hardly think the base fact that we've an interest in common means I should be equated with some of the spastics that have been wanked here.)

I actually kinda agree with that 'basketball belly' comment. I also think that 'pregnant parking' is stupid, but then, I don't see why able-bodied people freak out about walking a yard or so to the mall.

Maybe one of the advantages of deciding not to have kids is staying away from wanky conversations about pregnancy, child-rearing and those ungrateful teenage brats of ours. Saves me time for more trival topics. :)

You're assuming, though, that just because there's nothing "wrong" with a pregnant woman, that she's able-bodied. It's not like she's just put on a bit of extra weight and could stand to walk it off, she's got a whole extra person growing in there, causing a radical shift in gravity and weight. Back pain, foot pain, all that "good" stuff. It's not just griping, that stuff actually IS rather difficult to deal with.

Oh, i do too. Which is why i put it in the post. I've had 2 kids but i don't consider myself the vessel of something sacred or whatever the hell this woman was trying to say. To be honest, women who take their ability to reproduce so seriously it becomes a sacrament kind of freak me out. Most living creatures can do it, it's not like it's the holy grail. Maybe it's just a first-time mom attitude she has, but i don't remember EVER being that full of myself about being pregnant.

"Pregnant parking" doesn't bother me. Special parking for people with kids does, in fact, annoy the fuck out of me. It's a little thing, but it's a special privilege for people who've managed to spawn that I don't really see the need for.

They just brought "pregnant parking" in at the local mall, and it pisses my mother off to no end. As she said, "If you're too pregnant to walk an extra five feet into the mall, maybe you shouldn't be shopping." She always parked right near the very end of the parking lot, because then by the time she reached the store, us four kids would have already gotten out most of our 'run around' urges and finished our fights we had started in the car.

A slightly different version on her LJ:
He opens my bag, pulls out a pack (which I didnt see b/c if I had I wouldnt have asked) waves it in my face and then throws it back in the bag. I'm not quitesure what it is about me that brings out this in people, but I dont like it much.
Usually I dont get this bitchiness from men, only women. But, maybe he was gay.

My take on it is, while someone who's pregnant doesn't necessarily deserve respect, they probably deserve some slight extra consideration. They're basically physically impaired, and though certain people might snark "Well, you chose to be a breeder, you can just deal with the consequences", the fact is that if no one did it, well, the species would kind of die out. n.n;;
Hm, not relating this very well, really. Think of it this way... suppose you broke your arm and collarbone and had to wear one of those casts that forces your arm up and out to the side and to be bent. Now, you can still walk around and do a fair amount, but you've definitely got a physical thing going on that's a hindrance to you and might be an inconvenience to others. You'd probably be fairly thankful if people were considerate of you, and maybe made a little extra effort to accomodate you. I'm not talking slavish obsequiance or pity or something like that, but you'd probably be hopeful that people would occasionally hold a door for you, give you certain seating over a position that might not be comfortable for you, or were understanding when you couldn't do as much as you normally could.

Wordy. I've experienced the joys *cough* of pregnancy twice. I sure as hell didn't want people serving me hand and foot, doting actually makes me uncomfortable. But some common decency shouldn't be that hard!

Besides, there's no "pregnant parking" here, at all. And I never had a problem with that.

Many of the more militant CFers are also members of the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, so they will have a snarky response to that argument, too. ;p

Not that I am, or that I think we should all kick the bucket ASAP. But if I broke my arm on purpose, I would expect to be laughed at.

I'm just creeped out by the whole cult of the fetus that's developed over the last decade. I mean, once upon a time you were expected to pop out one or two for the team. We finally get it to the point where it's optional for women to bear young and suddenly having a child is the equivelent of elevation to godhood? WTF, mate?

I have hopes and plans of being a breeder, I hope people will help me when I'm fifty pounds more than I should be and have a basketball under my clothes, but I'm not going to expect them to hold me up as an example of spiritual development. It's a baby, not the coming of the Messiah.

With today's economy being in the tank as it is, how is it that management puts up with rude jackasses for employees when I see the application racks are always empty (as opposed to people sticking them in your to-go bags or on your trays in better times)?

On the other tack, it chaps my ass when people act like pregnancy is a disability. Pregnancy is a temporary condition and while some women develop potentially dangerous and disabling conditions while pregnant or disabled women can and do become pregnant, pregnancy is not a disability. That reminds me of when I worked in the Social Security office fifteen years ago and state government employees had to file for disability when they became pregnant because regulations said they had to in order for their insurance to cover them despite the all-too-obvious fact that pregnancy was not a disability.

That whole wank is full of irony goodness.
[info]darqstar

1: She goes to Customers Suck to point this out. Sorta like going to a snake pit to complain to the snakes you got bit. Yes, there are rude service people as well as rude customers, but isn't there also a community on LJ called "Employees suck" or something like that?

2: More irony. "I don't want to be treated like I'm handicapped," then goes on to say, "Open doors for me, treat me nice, treat me special!" I know actual handicapped people who are less demanding than this woman. I'm not saying you shouldn't open the door for a pregnant woman, or help her up if she falls, but to be honest, if you expect that type of treatment as your divine right, because you're pregnant, then indeed you are saying that you're disabled. You deserve to be treated in a way that is different than everyone else, because of a condition you're in. She can't have it both ways. Either she's to be treated "speshul" or not.

3: Being pregnant doesn't make someone a saint. "Oh, it's sooo hard now adays, being pregnant, when everyone looks at you like you're performing a sacred duty!" then goes on to say some people are rude. Make up your mind. Most people don't sneer at someone performing a "sacred duty" I think she just wants everyone to think she's performing a sacred duty and is pissed off when so many people in this world treat her exactly the same.

I strongly suspect her pregnancy had nothing to do with how she was treated at Wendy's. I think she just got a clerk who was either a jerk, or having a particularly bad day. It happens from time to time, even to people who aren't pregnant too.

Haven't read the above comments yet, but I have to say right off the top of my head (because I hate having my initial opinion tainted by others) that I didn't think the OT was all THAT wanky. She was complaining. So what? Isn't that the point of the community?

Now, on the other hand, I DO I think half of the people who responded interpreted wank INTO her comments via personal hang-ups of their own, and were such complete and utter hags about it that she HAD to get wanky in return to defend herself.

And by "bitch," yes [info]deoridhe and [info]oulangi, I'm talking to YOU. Among others, but I can't be bothered to pick more than two of the most obvious names. Because it's a Monday and I'm feelin' a mite spiky: here's your "get over yourselves and shut the fuck up." Use it.
