Creationism wank part 214
Previously on clairvoyantwank, now for all the world to see.

A post is made in _scientists_ about people who go around museums with kids and teach them the 'biblical' version of what is in those mueseums. Most people are pretty pissed.

Entrance [info]edgarpoetry:

A Christian who is a scientist and a creationist To be exact, she chose creationism (1 day ~ 1 eon). Of course, people argue. A lot.

Someone says: Creationists are the best arguement for legalizing retroactive abortion. people disagree.
Simply because someone has a faith and a belief that is different from yours does not mean that they are unable to reason. Treating them like stubborn children will get us nowhere.

Lots of great stuff in there, even though edgarpoetry has stopped to reply after "For now I will believe as I see fit. Because I have looked for true scientific evidence in either direction, and I have continually come up empty handed. So I decide to accept what I have decided."

Truely, I must be the only Christian alive who really doesn't give much of a damn on how the world was created. Blinked into existance, evolution, fine, whatever, don't care.

That said, I HATE it when creationists say evolution supports racism and shit. Dammit, first it's heathen lies, and now it's racist? What next? It rapes innocent virgins and set fire to cats? That Darwin worshipped Satan? For heaven's sake.

Obviously, because eugenics was inspired by Darwin, they are one and the same.

....Well, they're actually partly right. There were some batshit folk who did argue that Darwin's theories were scientific support for eugenics, racism, and the like.

Granted, this was in the 1890's. But, there are those fringe nut-bats who do dig up and quote the references of those arguing thus and use them as "proof".

But, this is not evolution's fault, just as it is not fair to say the Qur'an itself is the cause of fundamentalist Islam, or the Bible is itself the cause of the Patriarchy, or the Beatles' Helter Skelter was the cause of Charles Manson going bats, or...et cetera. Still, though, it may help out some if the scientific community does own up to that fact more often -- unless it has, and I just haven't seen it, which is entirely possible.

I'm thinking kind of like what Grover Cleveland did when he was running for president and his opponent started talking smack about him having knocked up some woman -- he owned up to it. He sent out a press release that basically said, "okay, you may have heard about this -- yeah, it's true, I was a dick and got some woman pregnant. But here's what I did for her and the kid, and I feel bad and got her some help and she's doing a lot better now and I've made sure she and the kid are okay. I'm not proud of it, but I've tried to make up for it." And the public read this, and went, "damn, this guy's got guts," and his opponent couldn't use it as an attack any more, and he was elected president.

And before I get asked about my thoughts on yaoi, I'll stop. *blush*

I have a serious problem. The more I hear creationists speak, as time goes on, the time I get this raw hate going.

Maybe it's the ignorance. Maybe it's the claim that something rather concrete that I studied for YEARS isn't there. Maybe it's the polluting the minds of their kids thing. Maybe it's the several written endorsements from various religious leaders supporting evolution that have been ignored.

I don't know, but it sends me into RAGE mode.

What gets me are their vehement attempts to slather it all over public school curriculums as "science," especially under some shoddily-masked, bullshit oh-we'll-take-other-accounts-too term like "intelligent design." Probably a touch of "how the fuck do you know how a higher being would create things?"

I watched the Penn and Teller episode on creationism the other night, so I've had a fairly fresh dose of rage.

Nothing in Biology makes sense but in the light of evolution.

That sentence holds a lot of truths and that's why I am probably as enraged as you are. Evolution is the foundation for most Biology.

What bugs me is that so many self-labeled Christians act as if the Gospel is full of Christ ranting on about the creation of the world and the unutterable irremediable sinfulness of homosexuals, since that's all they ever talk about.

Oh- unless they're old prayerbook Episcopalians, and then they get their tails in a knot over female priests, too.

REALLY wonder why these people trust mechanical devices, or modern medicine, since the scientific proof behind engineering and medicine is just as imperfect as that behind evolutionary biology.

The really astonishing thing is that even the Roman-Catholic church which is one of the strictest in Europe has no problem with evolution and especially not with it being taught in their schools (I attended a Catholic schools). I thought the Protestants were supposed to be more secular and open to new influences until I heard about some of the stuff US-American Protestants (not all of course, but the mad kind) seem to think-

I really hope that they pick one of the two gay candidates for Bishop of California, so that lot will finally just leave. I swear, it's enough to make me start going to church again, just to show my support.

Of course, I first discovered kink playing with the hot wax in the candles when I was an acolyte, so my perspective may be a wee bit skewed.

God: I make everything.
Everything: *is made*
God: hmm. Boring. Just some black space. Let's make it some fun in there!
Everything: *explodes in a big bang, filling everything with funny colors and random blobs that hang around randomly*
God: Still not funny enough. Let's make some rules so some fun happens later, while I sit back and enjoy the show! Why would I design everything carefully? It'll change shape a lot anyway. I'm smart! I don't.
Everything: *follows new natural laws happily, eventually bringing forth life, evolution kicks in, things evolve around*
God: Ain't I a genius?
Things: *evolves to lots of animals, and eventually people*
People: Rawr
God: Please have a lot of sex now. DEFINITELY so you get more children, I would never tell you that for another reason.
People: K
5000 years: *passes by silently*
People: Omg no evolution evar! Cannot be!
Evolution: Not? What about duckbills then? Who't design that?
God: Could you please stop equaling me to an idiot who fine-tunes everything in the universe, down to the size of individual fins? Do not blame the platypus on me, please. I had nothing to do with it!

Maybe that's too *shudder* european though. You know, the whole "god created all, including the laws that brought forth evolution" thing. It kind of makes everyone happy.
