Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
At [info]ferretlovers, someone asks for some health advice:

[info]art_prostitute: Hi, I'm new! Anyway, I think my ferret may be sick. I have to force-feed her, she vomits, has loose stools, itchy skin, and she's really lethargic. What should I do?

[info]ferretlovers: FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, TAKE HER TO A VET!

Wank explodes, especially after [info]tviokh comes in and lays smackdown. People accuse her of being harsh, because [info]art_prostitute is only asking for help and being mean is not being supportive!

Other posters, obviously, don't agree. Wank ensues as people either berate the OP, or defend her. Not to mention the people telling the OP to GET OFF LJ ALREADY and find a good vet.

Then it turns that the OP is a troll! (Thank heavens) Turns out it's actually [info]mindiloohoo, trying to get herself banned. She succeeds and is baninated.

(P.S. While the OP CLAIMS she is 13, [info]mindiloohoo definately isn't.)

Someone should make an icon of a ferret wearing leather pants, slicked-back blond hair, holding a wand, and wearing a Slytherin tie.

Tlknfrgs gets the dumbass of the day award for defending the troll and for saying "not everyone is brilliant in the smarts department and other people have more common sense than others. NO ONE should be excluded from the opportunity to have a pet, as that experience is one of the more enriching experiences one can have in their lifetime."

She reminds me of the_faery_queen, for reasons I can't put my finger on.

She bothered you too? I'm not alone!

Every comment she posted made me want to punch things. Repeatedly.

Like being a parent, not everyone should own a pet. If you can't take proper care of them, you shouldn't have them.

It might be the odd blend of 'so openminded her brain is falling out' mixed with ridiculous stubborness and a refusal to admit that she's wrong.

This is just stupid. Claiming you are 'teaching a lesson' by being a troll in a community is the oldest bit in the book. Couldn't this girl (and I use that term loosely- she evidently isn't much of anything) find a more entertaining reason for being a douche bag? I mean, seriously- I want some quality entertainment from my trolls.

All that said- I don't know why people were jumping down tviokh's throat for her comments- she's right and I probably would have said something along the same lines. I am the proud owner of a 13-year-old Cairn Terrer and you can bet if he started having any of those symptoms the vet would AT LEAST be getting a phone call from me, asking for advice. The truth hurts, kids.

Yeah, i don't get why they got on tivokh either. I definitely would have said the same things she did. If any of my babies got sick I'd be running them to the vet ASAP.

I really don't understand why 'going to the vet' is such a trial for some people.

Part of being a good pet owner is understanding that there are going to be times that you'll need professinal help.

Yeah, I don't understand why they jumped on Tviok like that. I do pretty much the same thing when someone comes to me at work with a sick pet, although I am generally a bit politer. My favorite phone call was a gal who wanted a second opinion about her sick parakeet, the first opinion having come from an avian vet I rescently took my own sick parakeet to. Coddling doesn't help anywhere near as effective as a point blank "I have no idea what's wrong with Tweety, but if you don't take him to the vet he'll probably die. Thank Goodness for modern medicine, right?"

The argument that we should coddle people that are idiots is ridiculous. Usually in these comms, when someone posts that "Um, my animal appears to be dying and I don't want to go to a vet, what should I do?", it's the comments that grind them into the ground that make them get off their ass and call the vet, rather than the ones that are nice and sweet and start giving them things they can do rather than go to the vet which, actually, is counterproductive.

When idiots get coddled, they persist in being idiots. It's the don't feed trolls rule in action.

Trolly goodness aside, I think maddogairpirate had a point:

You must wonder, being such a champion for pets, why you'd treat people any less than you'd treat your animals. After all, both are important, are they not?

For every person who's simply blunt and unforgiving in their advice, you have a thousand others in the pet comms who seem to just enjoy beating off to their pet-mom superiority and anonymously belittling anyone who strays from the path of utterly selfless animal love (see: pool dog drama a month ago).

I missed the part where mindiloohoo admits being art_prostitute...

I know that mindiloohoo wanted to get ban because she was being 'mean' to others, not because she's art_prostitute. Also the "Thank you...blahblah"comment was to a lock post on stupidpetowners that mention that people on LJ dont have to be calm/nice when they strongly disagree with something.

Oh well, mindiloohoo deserved to get ban...but then again, it just proved her point...
